Myeh. On hard mode Uncharactet felt like a less 'chunky' (not in a bad way) Gears of War.

Edit: To people saying "Do we ps3 owners care about GOW2"

They care enough to make threads about it apparently.

Double Edit: I'm loving all the Resistance 2 comparisons."Don't worry chums! We don't need a generic sci fi shooter with terrible characters! We already have a generic sci fi shooter with absolutely atrocious characters! We're in the clear.

It's kind of like saying you don't need cancer because you already have HIV. Way to go guys.
I started this thread because I heard a (in hindsight, uninformed) rumour about GOW2 on PS3 and I've got to admit, I would love to have it on my console, so yes I do care indeed.

Right now, it seems to me that the 360 is about as good as it's going to get.

The PS3 is under-achieving because people would rather stick to the tried, tested and familiar paths of the 360 rather than taking a risk and actually using the PS3 to its full potential. I realise some of you are too young / stupid to remember this, but EVERY SINGLE CONSOLE goes through the same pattern. Every single one.

Pick any console, and compare the first generation of games to the last. You will see notable improvements.

Let's take as an example, and I'm already wanting to stab myself in the face for doing it, Tomb Raider. Mechanically speaking, Chronicles (that was the last PSX one I think) is FAR better than the original. In theory, there's no reason they couldn't have started with Chronicles-level quality, but they didn't. Why should they? No sense investing bucketloads into a game that might not pay off. Instead, it's better to use 20% of the system, then 25% in the sequel, then jump to 35% because a competing game came out that used 30%...

The point is it will take time for the PS3 to really start to shine.
At which point the next Gen consoles will have to deal with the PS3 + a decent game library (props to the first person to make SBB with the LBP editor).

On topic, no it's unlikely to happen but I'd play it.

Secondly I'd prefer a 40k space marines FPS done on the PS3 over gears of war.
Now that would be awesome as well!

Just for clarification, would someone mind explaining to me how the Publisher/Developer issue affected the whole Fear and Project Origin thing?
Well the guys tat made the orginal F.E.A.R got everything but the name, hence why all the "expansion" packs are terrible.

Project Origin is the true sequal to F..E.A.R published by the original creators, the just lost rights to the name.
Correct, but outdated. They've kissed and made up, so Project Origin is called F.E.A.R 2 again now.

The point is it will take time for the PS3 to really start to shine.
See, the point is that they are running out of time. The PS3 may never reach it's full potential because it's install base is too small (and whilst it has been growing, the growth is slowing. Last week the PS3 recorded it's lowest sales to date in Japan), it's not profitable enough to spend the time and money optimising for it.

In theory, there's no reason they couldn't have started with Chronicles-level quality, but they didn't. Why should they?
There was. Early Playstation developer support tools and libraries were, not to put too fine a point on it, wank. It wasn't until Sony released decent libraries and the Performance Analyser tool (the first game to use it was Gran Turismo) that the Playstation really started to hit it's stride in 3D applications.

Would I be correct in assuming a majority of PS3 owners hate Xbox 360 titles JUST because they're Xbox 360 titles?

If thats the case it's abit petty, if its not then my apologies.
When it comes to licensing then you have to be careful on the ground you tread, if Microsoft owns the GoW License then theres nothing that can be done, its like "Insert sarcastic analgy here" and so can't be changed ^^.

Oh and while we're expressing "personal Opinion" in the form of angry rants, Gears of war was a great game and for me Halo 3 was the mediocre failure. Halo 3 was exactly the same as every single other Shooter out there... 1st person view, H.U.D, throw grenades, drive around and shoot stuff, shout abuse down the headset.
Gears had 1 driving section (which sucked, DON'T do it again!!) but the rest of the gameplay felt pretty fluid and solid, The roadie run was cool as were the other things like the action dives or the S.W.A.T turns. What do you really want from a game? Halo 3 was just another printed copy of a now boring and over used formulae while Gears changed things, starting with the camera angle and finishing with the very way you move around fighting.

Personally I don't want a PS3, they're over priced and offer very few games I actually want. I noticed a few people shouting that "next year PS3 will stomp cause of its new titles" ... maybe assuming people actully want those titles...

FF13 is coming out on Xbox 360 which means nothing, I got my 360 to shoot at stuff and play a few diverse games like Enchanted Arms and Viva Pináta (though the girlfriend who made me get it for her is now safely split up and away from me!!), so FF13 is like... ok and?
There's probably more I can add but for now I'll drop it and leave you with this point,
Just because something is there it doesn't mean people want it, meaning PS3 players might not want GoW and everyone else might not care about the Ps3 Exclusives if they aren;t your taste.

Thanks for clearing that up, F.E.A.R 2 looks to be a good game, as for the PS3, I don't think its going to be as good as it was meant to be (ever) simply because it has no definitive title, the 360 has Halo, Gears and Fable, but there have always been talks of MGS4 being ported (and IMO it wasn't a particularly good game, and the MGS series has been on other systems before. (Nintendo)

They messed up the online, and with the new Xbox live experience coming out there?s no way Sony are going to be able to compete (in terms of online play)

Sony didn't seem to realise that getting third party support and exclusives is essential, because they lost Tekken, FF13 and possibly MGS 4.

The Wii is king of sales at the moment, but I?m sure every "true" gamer on here knows that its a gimmicky cheap console, Nintendo seem to have mastered the casual area (don't give me grief trying to claim there?s not a significant difference between hardcore and casual games) although a friend told me they are putting manhunt on the console...

In all, Sony will have to fork out serious $$$ if they want to "win" this generation, but personally I think they've already lost it, with a late release date, a ridiculous price tag and poor games.

My opinion...

The price tag is what's doing the most damage, I think. With a global economic downturn, being the most expensive device on the market whilst not offering a significant concrete advantage over the competition is not a good position to be in (and no, Blu-Ray is not that advantage, because it requires an even more expensive luxury item which people will be even less willing to purchase due to the global economic downturn).

Good post, I don't want a single PS3 exclusive, I see a ton of fanboys telling me how amazing these game are, but the only games I've been loking foeward too are Fable 2 and Gears of War 2, both of which are 360 exclusives. So I never got round to buying a PS3.

Its obvious the PS3 fans DO want GoW though, face it, if it was on PS they would be going crazy, perhaps more because it used to be a 360 exclsuive. But I can say in confidence its never going to happen because Microsoft own the IP.

Glad the PS3 fanboys haven't swayed you. I am a PS3 owner and yes, I think it would be brilliant if GOW2 came out on PS3. Not getting GOW was my only regret on choosing PS3 over 360.

hahaha don't bait the PS3 owners!
Anyway, I think we can pretty much conclude due to licenses The Ps3 won't see GoW in this decade at least assuming in the future the license contract expires or something in that region.

Personally the console war breaks down into what games you like, I tihnk it's safe to assume a majority of us here have seen Zero Punctuation, more to the point his "console rundown" and I have to agree with him, this is the best generation we've had in which each console panders to each person's needs. I like my 360's controls and game style, I honestly don;t care if the PS3 is alot prettier, I'm not a graphics whore I go on gameplay not how much clevage anime slut #287438 is showing me in High def, odds are she is just covering up poor gameplay mechanics... Lost odessy (I hear, don't know 1st hand) is an exception to this because it has both ^^ but thats a 360 title and im an xbox360 owner so I don't bother looking at the £50 PS3 copy of the same game on Xbox 360 for £39.99 haha

I don't think i've ever seen so many fanboys in one place before arguing about something so stupid...except for the PS3 section of the Gametrailers forums...

And I don't think i've ever seen so many people arguing over a game like Killzone. The controls sucked and the story was so cliche that it might fit better on a movie that was released straight to DVD starring The Rock...

You should all just be happy that you have the consoles you do. I'm happy that the 360 is getting great games and i'm jelious that the PS3 has some great games as well...

Like someone said before...

"Its all about what kinds of games you wanna play"

Why? Console exclusive games are meant to be exclusive for that console only, that's what makes them so great.

I don't see anyone going crazy for Bioshock, Overlord, or Eternal Sonata... I already have a 360 and bought Gears of War around the time it came out. It was one of the worst purchases I have ever made, the controls were broken for anyone who wanted to use Southpaw. I was somewhat interested in Gears 2 until I saw an interview with some of the dev team including Cliffy B. where they admitted that they just used stereotypes for all of the main characters. That interview killed any passing interest I had in the forthcoming sequel. It told me that they were not even trying at all. I fully expect both R2 and Gears 2 sales to be somewhat muted because of Call of Duty 4 and to a lesser extent Call of Duty: World at War.

I think Microsoft would have some sort of contract to make sure that never ever happens in this century. Gears is one of Xbox's biggest titles, so it going to PS3 too would be bad for them.

While I agree with 90% of what you just said, the last sentence...Almost anyone with a Xbox 360 and gets virtual hard ons for steriod induced grunt fest with repetitive 'pop n cover' gun fights will buy it, sadly that seems to be most of the systems owners. I too was goated into buying the first one by the hype, and it was pretty overhyped and lackluster. Resistance 2, a lot of people will buy that as well. CoD: WaW...Well, if it even gets half the praise as CoD4 is still getting I will be amazed. Seems hardly anyone is looking forward to that game.

I don't believe that CoD 4 will evaporate, and I can't help but think that CoD WaW will actually sell quite well inspite of the hatred for WWII that has been building.

All this shit has to stop soon.

First of all, no, Gears 2 will probably never come to the Playstation 3, due to Microsoft being a part of the publishing.

Second of all, Sony hasn't lost many exclusives. Final Fantasy and Devil May cry are the only games that really made their way to the 360. Also, games like Eternal Sonata, Saint's Row, Bioshock and Lost Planet have made their way to the PS3 aswell, but they weren't 360 exclusives either.

Third, the sales. Yes, the 360 have sold more than the PS3, but considering that the console was released exactly one year before the PS3, while it was the only next-gen console out ALONE for a whole year, it's not that wierd that the 360 have sold approximately 5 million more than the PS3's 15.

Last, but not least, the games. I'm sick and tired of people blaiming the PS3 for not having any games. Both the 360 and Playstation 3 is having a strong library of games, and also future releases. But why shouldn't we take a look at some numbers instead?

http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/List_of_PlayStation_3_games

This is the list of Playstation 3 games. There are 520 games, and 107 of those are exclusives

http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/List_of_Xbox_360_games

The 360 list. 543 games. 97 exclusives.

Now don't blaim the PS3 for having a small list of games, cause it's actually the 360's list that's the tiny one, considering it was released a year before.

You're welcome Syphonz.

It's not like I'm hating the 360, I'm just hating the people trying to attack the PS3.

Everyone who says PS3 owners want GoW.

No. We don't. We never will, deal with it.
Some may want Fable, although I personally don't care.
I'd like Tales of Vesperia/Braid/Castle Crashers though.

Edit: Eternal Sonata makes me happy :D
