The Lancer is the new Lightsaber?
Words cannot express the full extent of my rage upon reading this.
I was actually sort of thinking about buying Gears of war or it's sequel.
But now I shall not, just to spite them. It's probably a pretty stupid and overly macho game anyway, no big loss.

That's sort of a deathtrap right there. When you say that something you have is going to replace an everyday pop culture object, you run a large risk of alienating the fanbase of said object. With that quote, he might as well have just said, "Gears is better than star wars!" Poor choice of words, there.

I like Gears of War, but I don't think it will live up to the Star Wars longevity. I'll probably show it to my kids and they'll think it sucks compared to 'Virtual Online Sex Party 5' or something.
all i can say to that is.............hahahaahhahahahahaahhahahaahahhahahaha

If you think that's bad, you should see what I think my grandkids will be playing.
ya me too problay like Halo 39 and they will go to the movies to see "The Texas Chainsaw Masscure Remake Number 304" (how ironic for what gun were talking about)

and by the way i think that lancer has replaced it but im a gears fan so my view is kind of one sided but most people who didnt like gears think that it didnt replaced it so their view is a little one sided to (which i would like to add that many people didnt like gears)

What?! Lancer in the lightsaber status?

Obviously spoken by someone so untrained in the ways of dealing death.

Oh so untrained......

Finally, I've found someone else who likes the hammerburst.
Hallelujah, I've found TWO!

On-topic: This is pretty arrogant, and I don't think the Lancer will come anywhere near the lightsaber in terms of awesome weaponry. On the plus side for the Lancer, you don't have to be a Jedi (or Sith) to wield it effectively.

But yeah, shut up and sit down, Mr. Ortega.

Comparatively speaking. Water to the lungs in a bath Vs a truncheon to the head in the street. Or the bath.

With all due respect to Epic -- I love Gears 1 & 2 -- he's wrong. There is virtually no chance that the rather simplistic Gears universe can ever surpass cultural impact and popular culture legacy of the Star Wars cannon. And I *HATE* Star Wars.

The Lucas behemoth will never be threatened by something as paltry as a video game, even if -- as was the case with Halo 3 -- the video game does better retail numbers than any piece of entertainment ever released before it.

There's more than money to the throne of skulls atop which Star Wars currently sits. There are decades of serious, bred-in-the-bone fanboyism and serious cinema. Star Wars practically invented the concept of sci-fi/fantasy epic as far as film is concerned.

Gears stands on the shoulders of giants. Given the Ortega comments, maybe it needs to sit down.

I loved Gears 1, and I enjoyed Gears 2. But I don't have much hope for this series if this is the kind of ego maniacal assholes they have working at Epic. They should keep their delusions of grandeur to themselves and concentrate on making the games better instead of telling people that a gun which I thought was nameless until the second game(they made it a point for us to know its name in the campaign), will dethrone the light saber from its pop culture throne. As cool of an idea the Lancer is, Star Wars(and the light saber) has a huge cult following of all ages dating back to 1977. Gears of War has only been around since 2006.

Head backwards so far it goes up bum into small intestine where it drowns on bile, that's how subtle I was thinking.

But I see your point.

Like I said before it's more "Epic Pretentiousness" than "Epic Games". Also I'm glad people besides me understand that strapping a chainsaw onto a gun is a stupid idea for multiple reasons.

Hell this thing isn't even the new phaser, much less the new lightsaber.

The Lancer could cut through only the hilt of the Lightsaber, but not the blade. The Lightsaber on the other hand, could cut through the entirety of the Lancer.

End.

This guy would have had more credibility if he had said the lancer is the next BFG.

The lightsaber is cool and classy. A oversized machinegun with a chainsaw bolted on is something out of Tool Time.

Epic is getting too full of itself. They need to pull their heads out of their asses and realize that yes, their games are fun and yes, they do good but that doesn't make Cliffy B and Epic games lords of the universe.

if there was any justice in this world, GoW would just die in a fire... enough already... and Epic needs to issue an edict stating that their employees are not permitted to speak in public. ever.

I've said it before, and I'll say it again: GoW is for knuckle-draggers...
