Gears 2 Writer: "The Lancer Is The New Lightsaber"

Wow...I am so relieved to see these responses. I guess I should hold Escapist members at a much higher level than 'mainstream gamers' (I use it as an insult, people who only play huge titles like Halo 3 and are usually meatheads). Honestly, I hate the Lancer. When the first Gears was about to come out I knew nothing about it at all, and the most I heard was "chainsaw gun" which made me be like "Yeah..um...Doom did that already". Anyways, I really hate the Lancer, because it is not that cool but still it rangles people in. It only got worse in Gears 2 when Lancers no longer were in a Rock Paper Scizzors formula and when once a shotgun that grazes a reved lancer, now a nuke would not lower it. I hope constantly an update will remove Lancers or turn them into your basic machien gun, but that is as likely as my hopes of a world without ignorance coming true.

Also I do really hate egotistical companies. Epic is one, and the head guy who I forgot his name was quickly let it go to his head, and I fear may become as bad as the head of Sony. Honestly, BioWare is the only company I would be fine with having an ego.

Bottom line people: should I invest my hard earned (hah, yeah right) cash into the Gears of War series?

I never did get round to buying it, and people seem to be talking about it all the time, which is increasingly making me wonder if I'm missing out on a truly amazing gaming series.

You should definitely give the games a go.

Also I'm glad people besides me understand that strapping a chainsaw onto a gun is a stupid idea for multiple reasons.

You've put too much thought into this.

If by "too much thought" you mean I took one look at it and said "so, shitty center of gravity and no balance point?" then yes.

That's exactly what I meant, examining fictional weapons for any form of real life flaw is a waste of brain power.

Yes in the 1 second it took me to think of that I could've solved cancer. No wait, no I couldn't have. Sheesh lighten up. If game developers are going to continue to tell us that "brown = realistic" among other things, then I think their goofy-ass chainsaw gun should be rife for analysis.

Especially when the chainsword is a better weapon that they ripped off.

I don't know. The Lancer rifle has a chance at being very iconic. Its definitely not a lightsaber, but then again, an assault rifle and a laser sword don't really compare.

I've always though the chainsaw was just a utilitarian deal. I mean, anyone who has played through the worm can see why its nice to have a cutting instruement. the fact that you can use it to slice up enemies is a (endlessy entertaining) bonus.

Problem with Gears of war is, that nothing in it is as iconic as a lightsaber, (Or dare i say, Master Chief)
