Gears of War 2- Only Haters and Lovers

Don't really care. Played Gears of War the First and was thoroughly uninterested by the gameplay. Found it terribly boring. I doubt the Second incarnation will be much different in execution. As such, I'm going have to join EADM in the

"I don't really give a shit"

area.

Will it be loved by the masses? Probably. Will a minority of gamers who view themselves as above such things eye it with disgust and disdain? Equally possible. Will I continue to not care about a game I have no interest in buying and just play Mirror's Edge? Yes. Yes I will.

The only people who enjoy Gears of War are fascists and serial killers. It's the embodiment of everything that is wrong with the industry in the 21st century. Absolute macho neanderthal garbage which aims for the lowest common denominator and arguably fails to achieve it. I don't see how anyone with a brain and/or identifiable human characteristics could possibly enjoy it. My dislike of it has nothing to do with fans, consoles, Microsoft, capitalism or even my noisy next door neighbor, I just despise everything it is, everything it strives for and everything it stands for. It's like the developers got drunk, watched Starship Troopers and didn't even realise that it was supposed to be satirical. Most of the time I appreciate next-gen gaming at the possibilities it has to offer but, every once in a while, I think of Gears of War and wonder if we might have been better off sticking with Pacman and Pong. It is to interactive entertainment what SWAP.avi is to the internet. Therefore I would rather die than experience the sequel.

So wait in your book I'm not human just because I like to disect a locust with a futuristic weapon? Yes, these characters are Unreal (Tournament, see what I did there? Think about that piece of history for a minute), but doesn't that make it mindless fun? We -and I hope all the devs who took part in making this bloodfest- can all agree that we don't want our future soldiers to look and behave like that. But thank GOD it's fiction!! When you start taking these kind of games serious, like they're trying to make you think about our actions or whatever, you're playing it wrong.
I liked playing Gears 1 and I'm pretty sure I'll enjoy playing Gears 2 as well but I didn't sit in my little bedroom 2 years ago playing the shit out of great and deep games like Morrowind, Thief, Jade Empire and Prince of Persia to be called not human because I switched to mindless violence for a couple of months.

I'm not trying to void your opinion and I understand I might be taking this a bit too personal but just saying that there's people who can play this stuff and still function normally (as far as 'normal' applies to me).

I don't like Gears of War. I don't like Gears of War a lot. Bought it, tried it, found it boring, macho and greysville. Traded it in that week.

My friend has gears of war 1.
I wasn't too impressed by the graphics at first, I'm used to anti-alias rather than sharpness.
However the graphics grew on me, I started to notice the textures more and kinda started feeling that "Hell, it actually does look pretty damn neat".

However when it comes to gameplay, I rather just be a spector than a player.
I'm really not interested in games that are too tactical and such, especially not when there's piss angry players yelling at you on the other end.
Yet my friend seems to enjoy the game, perhaps I would like it to.
However I doubt it.
Not because I find it to be a bad game, but rather because it's just not my style.

He receives Gears 2 limited edition tomorrow, maybe I can give you my perspective on that too sooner or later.
Perhaps I shall try it rather than spectate... although I won't promise because I'm simply just more happy for my friend rather than thrilled myself.

I dunno, the divisions sound a lot like what the multiplayer on Xbox Live was like. People were either ridiculously good or atrocious, and you were thoroughly mocked and booed off a team if you weren't up to snuff.

At least Halo 3 rank matched you...I dunno, it left a bad taste in my mouth.

wow well i guess someone really doesn't like it huh?! tbh it's a fun game and while the story and characters are much much larger than life that is what appeals to me. Me and my friend co-op'd through the first one loads of times and it was great.

I'm not gonna defend the characters as great examples of literature but i will argue that they're fun. Why does a game now have to be written by Byron and animated by Da Vinci to be classed as 'Good'.

Also "Oh a game that isn't as well written as Morrowind which as a huge RPG has to be well written...OMG it must truly have been hammered together from raw silicon by drunken frat-boy cavemen"...just grow up, get your nose out of yahtzee's arse and enjoy embracing your ridiculousy beefy american soldier side!

Hey hows about everyone stops bitching and do one of two things; play the game or don't play the game! Oh my god! could it really be that simple? why yes, yes it could. I really wish threads like these didn't exist, not because of the question, but because of all the belly-achers it drudges up. Like Harhol, I mean seriously dude, stop, and chill out, there is nothing wrong with the game, it is fun. and that is what gaming is about; having fun and being entertained. The game doesn't have to impress you or expand your concept of the universe, it is a video game! a video game that you don't have to play!
