Gears of War will probably be a trilogy. That's pretty big right now, because filmmakers have discovered that making two bad sequels brings in more money than just making one. Everyone likes to see the story "close".

Videogames immitate this because games are becoming more and more cinematic, which upsets me because the difference between games and movies used to be that movie sequels were terrible and game sequels were good.

But anyway, back to your question: Yes, of course there will be a sequel. Here is a link.

EDIT: Nevermind, someone else posted the links you need.

It's probably still in its pre-development stages. I hope it never comes out and becomes the new Halo. GoW doesn't deserve the hype.

Someone else who thought GoW was HUGELY overrated. Gears of War, not God of War.

Hopefully Epic is making something as... well... epic as the original Unreal Tournament.

I was disappointed by UT2004. I have yet to try GoW, but that seems unlikely as the PC version doesn't have a demo.

I thought GoW was good, so can someone explain to me why they hated GoW? I already know about

the vague story and the almighty 'A' button, but these things really never bothered me.

Having done the Campaign of Gears of War with a friend, in one day, I thought it was a pretty good game. It took a refreshing line with the shooter genre, which was full to bursting with bad FPS games at the time of release. The third person was a nice change and the tactical side really came to the fore on harder difficulty settings. Having to only push one button to interact with the environment was also great because it allowed you to quickly change tactics and react to a new situation. The story was pretty weak though and did leave glaring, under-developed plot-lines, e.g. Why was Marcus in prison? and other such awkward questions.

Hopefully some of these will be answered in GoW2, I'll keep an eye out for it but I'm not going to be clawing at every bit of hype that accompanies its announcement/ release.

P.M.

There wasn't much of a plot, the combat was boring, the game was too short (which may of been a good thing), and it was repeatative. The only fun bits were with the beserkers.

Most of the backstory was covered in a book that came with a special collectors edition of the game. They could have put it in the manual, but they hated us. To sum up: Marcus was in prison for insubordination when he refused to follow orders so he could attempt (and fail) to rescue his father, imulsion is the new oil, and the LightMass process turns imulsion into something akin to burning fission fire (of firey goodness) or something.

I don't think the world needs another GoW. The first was a non-stop montage of Rambo-types in glowing space-armor brutally chainsawing albino lizard things while said Rambo-types continue to yell out manly things in their perpetually hoarse, shouting voices. One was enough for me. Pretty much the main selling point of the game was the manly chainsaw fights and the god-awful story. Which by the way, made you trudge through a massive guano covered cave to plant a device that fails to do much of anything and makes you feel as if all your work was for nothing.

The reason i hated this game is generally based on my absolute boredom of the cookie cutter FPS's that come out 3 a week. If this game brought any type of actual ingenuity to the genre, then i may have enjoyed it more, and as cool as the chainsaw on the gun was, it just isn't enough to claim this game to be a classic. In my opinion, i hope that GoW 2 is being set on fire, and all people that knew about it shot so as to never release that piece of garbage on the world.

I liked GoW better than most shooters because I felt like I was actually good at it. I liked that cover was important and that run and gun would get you dead. I liked blind firing, the reloading system was interesting, and the chainsaw was a thing of glory.

That said, I felt the multiplayer still lacked. The winner was usually the guy who was good at running and firing blind with the shotgun, while the guy behind cover firing in bursts never seemed to get anywhere thanks to the instant regen.

I'll pick up GoW2, but if they don't improve on some areas I won't be as gentle with it.
