Why do people complain about sequels being similar? "MW2 is just CoD 4 with more maps!" "God Of War 3 is just God of War 2 HD!" And so on. I applaud that he is trying to do something different, we'll just have to see where it goes.purplegothchick said:Why try to fix what isn't broken?
heheheheAsymptote Angel said:Well, in Gears your group crouches in more or less a line behind cover, and the enemy does likewise. You take turns popping out of cover to shoot at the other group.
...wasn't it already a JRPG?
Or they could just add some color to it, that would work too.clicketycrack said:This sounds like a shitty attempt to keep the series from getting stale. But what's wrong with that?
dude- you are too right- moral choice in gears of war would NOT WORKcantthinkofausername said:No. Nonononononononono. The point of this game is playing as a completely awesome, emotionally detached man alongside his completely awesome emotionally detached allies while they stomp through cutting everything that moves and looks ugly into many bite-sized pieces.
Moral choices would be horrible.
"Marcus, you wanna execute him or let him go?"
(Revs chainsaw)
"RAAGAHARHAHGARAGH!"
"I can't believe you killed him. You disGUST me!"
".."

no, no no no oh god NO!ChromeAlchemist said:Considering the shift from pure exploration with action elements to a balance, to what appears to be much more action oriented (Deus Ex) perhaps this application of RPG elements would mean that Gears Of War might shift from relentless action to...something else. Only time will tell.lostclause said:Ironic since I made that statement as a fan of bioshock, and whilst a fan of GoW as well I'm simply convinced that rpg elements can't work well in GoW because the game focuses on relentless action and curb-stomping should be out of sheer vindictiveness not for xp.TK421 said:Agreed.lostclause said:Interesting. Whilst I aplaude attempts to mix things up in a franchiase I'm unconvinced RPG elements would work in Gears of War. Since the entire thing is based around good controls for taking cover and interesting settings and set pieces I'm not sure how much it'll benefit from this.
Also, I am a fan of the GoW series and NOT a fan of Bioshock. Therefore making Gears more like Bioshock =for me.
And yet, doesn't the latest DLC for GoW 2 feature stealth elements? Or am I wrong? I've never played it.tsolless said:Gears of War adding... RPG elements?
Are the developers completely detached from what made their series successful? What worked for Bioshock would not work for Gears of War.
Gears of War is all about over the top testosterone and pure murder. Adding RPG elements would make that not at all the same game.
