There's already levels in the multiplayer so as long as the levelling up happens in the same way and this is for campaign only, it might work. If you just get X amount of XP per kill and you can spend that on making the Hammer of Dawn fire faster or something it might work.
But the second that goes into mulltiplayer I will be back on Gears 2 so fast.

No. Nonononononononono. The point of this game is playing as a completely awesome, emotionally detached man alongside his completely awesome emotionally detached allies while they stomp through cutting everything that moves and looks ugly into many bite-sized pieces.

Moral choices would be horrible.

"Marcus, you wanna execute him or let him go?"

(Revs chainsaw)

"RAAGAHARHAHGARAGH!"

"I can't believe you killed him. You disGUST me!"

".."

[small]What if they try to make me emotionally attached to the characters.. No.. No it can't happen..[/small]

Why try to fix what isn't broken?
Why do people complain about sequels being similar? "MW2 is just CoD 4 with more maps!" "God Of War 3 is just God of War 2 HD!" And so on. I applaud that he is trying to do something different, we'll just have to see where it goes.

So will players level up and assign points, or will it be the more you use a weapon the better you get with it? It would be cool if there were interactive dialogue option (I'd tell everyone to suck it lol)

Well, in Gears your group crouches in more or less a line behind cover, and the enemy does likewise. You take turns popping out of cover to shoot at the other group.

...wasn't it already a JRPG?
hehehehe

I can't honestly see RPG elements being incorporated into Gears, Marcus would get confused by all those numbers.

This sounds like a shitty attempt to keep the series from getting stale. But what's wrong with that?
Or they could just add some color to it, that would work too.

I love gears of war for it's overly simple style- big choppy gun- go kill everything

adding rpg elements will make me dislike it
I hate bioshock
I want my shooters simple- shoot enemies- enemies die
I don't want to faff around by having to choose what stats to upgrade and whether Marcus prefers custard or ice cream with his pie

gears of war is a perfect formula- fish and chips with pie for afters- adding rpg elements will be like coating it in soup

please for god sake do not make it an RPG

oh- also make us able to somehow kill big enemies- like cutting their arms off 1 by 1 or something

dude- you are too right- moral choice in gears of war would NOT WORK
emotional detatchment makes GOW legendary
I just want my shooters to be simple- I love gears of war because I can pop heads, blow enemies to tiny pieces, chaninsay them into pieces or simply shoot the living crap out of them
a good coating of blood makes the gears of war series shiny

I hate bioshock because it makes you faff around for ages picking ammo out of bins, shooting samey enemies and wondering around for ages waiting to shoot the samey enemies and then running out of ammo and having to run back, pick money out of bins to buy about 3 bullets

Interesting. Whilst I aplaude attempts to mix things up in a franchiase I'm unconvinced RPG elements would work in Gears of War. Since the entire thing is based around good controls for taking cover and interesting settings and set pieces I'm not sure how much it'll benefit from this.
Agreed.
Also, I am a fan of the GoW series and NOT a fan of Bioshock. Therefore making Gears more like Bioshock = :( for me.
Ironic since I made that statement as a fan of bioshock, and whilst a fan of GoW as well I'm simply convinced that rpg elements can't work well in GoW because the game focuses on relentless action and curb-stomping should be out of sheer vindictiveness not for xp.
Considering the shift from pure exploration with action elements to a balance, to what appears to be much more action oriented (Deus Ex) perhaps this application of RPG elements would mean that Gears Of War might shift from relentless action to...something else. Only time will tell.
no, no no no oh god NO!
do not change gears of war!
shooting the crap out of enemies is secondary only to RFG's ability to blow up buildings with a rocket the size of a midget, relentless action is what makes gears of war great

Gears of War adding... RPG elements?

Are the developers completely detached from what made their series successful? What worked for Bioshock would not work for Gears of War.

Gears of War is all about over the top testosterone and pure murder. Adding RPG elements would make that not at all the same game.

I love Gears of War. I admit I am a fanboy for the game. Obviously I'm happy that the game is taking a new direction. However I'm worried that the games "Immature" Fans will dub the game horrible becuse of this.

And yet, doesn't the latest DLC for GoW 2 feature stealth elements? Or am I wrong? I've never played it.

This seems like a bad idea. If the designers want to give it a little more depth, they should add CoD4-style loadouts (or does Gears 2 already have that?) instead of RPG elements. For me, it just feels like the Gears games relied on skill, tactics and teamwork rather than large time committments.
