Digital certificates are not DRM. As far as I know, digital certificates come with nearly all programs, even free programs, and are supposed to provide accountability to both the developer (Epic) and the OS/ecosystem owner (Microsoft). Hell, my free mobile phone applications have to have valid digital certificates for them to be installed.
Okay, but we should all still be up in arms about this because it was waaaaay to near, after all Stronghold (The RTS from ages back) still runs.

Doom still runs, Deux Ex still runs, Total Annihilation still runs, hell, I've reinstalled Oregon Trail and played through it before. It's ridiculous that a game could just stop working.

That game was such a shitty port. A self-correcting problem.
Please explain to me how it was a bad port. I hear this all the time with certain games that are said to be bad ports but without any sort of real good argument. The ONLY problem I ever noticed with the PC version of GoW was this annoying freeze up in certain parts of the single player which were most likely load times. They were annoying stutters that reared their ugly heads when you were what I suspect to be load points but aside from that the game is fine. Controls are fine, visuals are fine, the whole game is FINE. If you don't like the PC controls that you use for EVERY OTHER shooter then plug in a damn game pad and play that way...jesus whatever happened to giving evidence to ones claims.

So people are blaming the publisher again?

Great, no more UT series.

On a serious note, some of us (me) don't HAVE a 360 and would have probably played it on PC given the chance to. I wasn't overly looking forward to it since I've played the 360 version and seriously don't understand why everyone thinks it's so great, but I woulda given it a better shot with a PC game.

The Publisher? The publisher is Microsoft game studios, not Epic. Epic make it, Microsoft publish it. (Oh and there is some help from People can Fly)

Bloody rediculous, I have GOW for the PC, and to be honest I uninstalled it ages ago, because my PC didn't like it very much at all, probably my aging graphics card (nvidia GeForce 8500gt :( ) but still, since when did ANY game have a use-by date this is PATHETIC.

I wouldn't get a copy of the PC version unless I had a 360 controller. End of.
Why do people ***** about GoW PC being bad when it comes to control. It works like any other shooter game on the friggen PC!! the keyboard controls are no differnt from counter strike or Call of duty. I absolutely hated the controller, and people who think it belongs on consoles only are being rather ignorant. Aside from the annoying freeze up whn loading in single player the gamje runs fine with no real problems that I have encountered.

Ireally hope they fix this problem soon since I got pissed off after trying to reinstall the game twice without luck. The clock rollback didn't help either.
exactly the controls are better on the keyboard, most fps's are better on a pc with mouse and keyboard.

i think a lot of ppl are upset with the pc version because it has more game in it than the 360 version

no they don't come with most programs, the digital certificate in that game is there because of drm. so although it's not directly a part of drm it is there only because of the drm used by the program, so in this case it IS part of drm

Between this and the fact that Gears of War 2 hit shelves containing glitches that were in BOTH versions of the first game, Epic Games are really doing a good job of embarassing themselves.

I personally will not be buying Gears of War 3 unless the game is actually, uh, you know, completed when it hits shelves.

You obviously don't know Epic very well.

Remember how UT3 would only be released "When it's done"? Look at this [http://www.prounreal.com/forums/viewtopic.php?t=73329].

It doesn't really surprise me. This is one of the biggest problems with online gaming; it's not always the gamers themselves, it's the fact developers have a lot more leeway because of their newfound ability to patch their fuck-ups, even on consoles, and it seems like more and more devs are saying "AH, fuck it, we'll just fix it later. We want our money now!"
