Fixed the title for you. The problems are not with the game, they are and always have been with the ridiculous DRM requirements that PC games are forced to employ.

What could POSESS them to turn off the game? I mean, pull multiplayer if you must but shut down the entire freaking game? Why? It hurts everyone and serves no purpose!
You don't really understand what's going on, do you?
I guess not. I don't have time to research it right now. Care to inform me?

Hint: there are two parties involved, Epic and Microsoft. Which do you think is to blame?

You know, thinking about it, everyone blamed EA for the Spore DRM fiasco so I'm gonna go with Microsoft just to be slightly stupid.

The problem is with the Digital Certificate (a Vista requirement), not the DRM directly.

There's two possibilities:
1) Epic completely forgot to renew it. Dumb even for them, but possible.
2) They tried to renew it and either Microsoft or Vista itself dropped the ball somewhere along the line.

Yeah all you have to do is set your clock back but the question is "why is there an expiration date?" that has us all baffled.

At last! A reason to feel good about owning an xbox. A bit of a small comfort, considering mine just shredded a brand new fallout 3 disc. DAMN!

I swear that microsoft is the only company in the industry that gets hate rants from it's own fanboys and customers as well as other people's.

ElArabDeMagnifico seems to have summed up my concern. What purpose does an expiration date, whenever timed, serve?

That game was such a shitty port. A self-correcting problem.
Please explain to me how it was a bad port. I hear this all the time with certain games that are said to be bad ports but without any sort of real good argument. The ONLY problem I ever noticed with the PC version of GoW was this annoying freeze up in certain parts of the single player which were most likely load times. They were annoying stutters that reared their ugly heads when you were what I suspect to be load points but aside from that the game is fine. Controls are fine, visuals are fine, the whole game is FINE. If you don't like the PC controls that you use for EVERY OTHER shooter then plug in a damn game pad and play that way...jesus whatever happened to giving evidence to ones claims.
I didn't feel like spelling it out. But you did so for me. The damn stuttering was insufferable for some people. GoW is in my opinion a decent game. CliffyB decided to release it a year later, and not even bother to optimize it for the PC. It was a lazy port.
Wait what, what? WHAT? You are serious?

I somehow had a shitty PC and could run Gears of War in pretty high settings (widescreen 16:10, Medium) and it looked awesome, FPS was high all the time. It was a bloody good port. You want a bad one? Try Saint's Row 2 or Bully. Want a shitty port? Go play GTA IV.

Also, I tried using a Logitech Dual Action controller, the same I used to play through Jade Empire, X-Men 2 and few other games. I couldn't get through first act on that crap... It's just worse on so many levels than a 5-button mouse.

This is inexcusable, even if they fix the problem.

As punishment for this act, I demand a refund and or the entirety of the Epic team be ass raped by a horde of Locusts. All in favor say 'Aye'.

I've played GTA 4 on the same machine. Since Rockstar at least FIXES their ports, GTA 4 runs WAYYYYY better on my machine than GoW.

wow, really... oh boo-hoo, so people pirate the game. Welcome to the PC dumasses. Of course its going to get pirated. They should be stoked that so many people want to play their game.

Epic cries that they don't get all the money, what about the modders who make mods and new maps for Gears PC and UT3, they don't get paid at all, they just do it because its fun.

Some maps on th ePC for UT3 and Gears Pc is WAAAAY better than ANY of the maps that came with the game and better than the games DLC. Modders don't get paid anything, and yet they continue to make amazing mods for the games. Its a real low blow.

Piracy happens no matter what, and Epic probably made enough money from Gears 2 to cover for piracy.

So suck it up Epic.

This is just another example of the gaming industry's increasingly corporate tendencies hamstringing its customer support. The reason for this game to have a digital certificate except to ensure that the person still maintains a copy of the install disk, and as such didn't pirate it. However, while this looks good on paper, in practice its an illogical and unnecessarily draconian method of attempting to rake in a few extra bucks.

I feel for you man. In this age of DRM, I am likewise feeling more and more concerned with the path technology is taking.
