Technically, Marcus Fenix is a space marine seeing as he isn't on earth.
Marcus Fenix is not a marine, nor is he in or (as far as we know) has ever been in space, making it impossible for him to be a space marine.

I am extremely insulted by your uninformed and erroneous statement.

Actually Master Chief isn't a space marine, the rank "Master Chief" is a Navy rank so he can't be a marine. This is because the SPARTAN program was conducted by the Office of Naval Intelligence thereby putting him under the jurisdiction of the UNSC Naval forces.
he could train and become a space seal though right?

because i think I could live with him being a space seal
Maybe, but I think a SPARTAN is already one step up above a Seal. Besides what sounds more frightening? A man clad in armor trained to kill, or a small, loveable, oceanic mammilian?
Seals by far.

First of all because they exist.

Second because I've been in a kayak while a bull seal surfaced next to me, they look five times bigger in real life. Fucking terrifying.
It was just a joke, I know seals can kill people but I think the spartans of ancient greece were alot more deadly and fearsome. But thats just my personal preference.

I'm a bit of a political geek, so when someone gets something wrong that they should know, I get pissed. Like someone saying "Obama is the first black president", that pisses me off. (He is the 6th, if you don't count Clinton.)

When it comes to geeky things in the conventional sense, I have been known to get obvious things wrong on purpose just so all the people who have a higher sense of geekdom can correct me in an angry fury of posts.

I was about to bring that up, but it seems I was beaten to it.

In any case, my biggest gripe is the line "Luke, I am your father." that people seem to think is from Star Wars. That isn't how Vader said it, and it makes me cringe every time I hear it.

On a similar note, I hate the expression "Money is the root of evil." because that's incorrect as well. The actual saying was "The love of money is the root of all evil."

It's possible they are referencing a Pink Floyd song.
Possibly.

I think you might have taken my response a bit too seriously as well.
But that story is true, and it was fucking terrifying.

Curse you and your powers of lyrical observation. I do love that song though. *Rushes to find his CD case*

I twitch a little when people use poor analogies, comparing such things as a result to a procedure and the like.

@ Jobz,
Wait. I thought vader did say it like that! WTF? I gotta go watch Episode VI again, I thought it went something along the lines of:
Luke: (something, something, paraphrasing) I'll never join you! You killed my father!
Vader: Luke.... I AM YOUR FATHER
Luke: No thats impossible!
Vader: MWAHAHAHAHAHA!
Luke: NOOOOOOooooOOOoooOOOOooOOOOooo (jumps off of platform)

Well if I'm wrong then I might have to go and watch them again 5 times each (not I, II or III, those arent even really star wars) because I am the biggest Star Wars geek this side of SoCal...

So Obama isn't the first black president? Seriously? I thought non whites had only had the vote for about 50 years or so, who were the other black presidents? Because wikipedia is calling you a liar

http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/President_of_the_United_States#Qualification.2C_disqualification_and_common_practice

(This is not sarcasm! Also, many apologies if I have the 50 year thing totally wrong, I'm not exactly a student of american history.)

The actual line is similar to the misquote, and goes something like this:

Luke: "I'll never join you, you killed my father!"
Vader: "No, I am your father."

So yeah, it's quite similar, but I still don't like the misquote.

Fenix isn't a Marine.. He hasn't got anything to do with a navy of any kind... space or otherwise.. and Warhammer 40k space marines arn't like "what ho!..blah blah blah" it's more like "YEEAAAAAAHHHHHHHHH!!!!*jumps out of landing craft* AAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAHHH! *cuts something twice as tall in half to punch it in the face*"

Er, we don't use the "one drop rule" anymore. Having some African ancestry isn't enough to classify you as black, these days. Even Obama is considered by many to be biracial, instead of simply "black."

I hate that mistake, and its way too common, I actually corrected someone earlier today about it ironically.

If I remember right, it was Coolidge, Jackson, Jefferson, Lincoln, and Harding. They are of African descent, sure they're not pure African, but neither is Obama. Of course if you're judging who Africans are by the color of their skin, then yes, Obama is the first visibly dark-skinned African descended president.

By "black president" I was referring to someone of African descent, not someone with dark skin.

I'd like to see you tell that to that racist Jesse Jackson, he doesn't care about the man's ideals, all he cares about is that "Obama is black". Heh heh, he even threatened to cut off Obama's nuts on TV once, yet there he is, crying (joyfully?) when Obama wins.

so... space marines are something in one setting and not in others... so... warcraft three has TWO kinds of elves... clearly at least one of them is fake.

discworld elves are TOTALLY wrong then.
fairy tale keebler style elves are wrong too.

i beleive the same applies to space marines.
