Do otakus count as geeks or are we a seperate category?
You're not an otaku, unless you're willing to go to those disturbing extremes.
*pulls out librarian glasses and list*

Okay, let's go over the things that qualify me as an otaku.
- Eyes are red, wear a green contact in the left (ask any of my friends here and they'll substantiate/explain this)
- > $4000 worth of anime merchandise in my room (figures, statues, posters,DVDs,etc.)
- Owns a tailored Suiseiseki costume + Gardener's Watering Can
- Has cosplayed in above mentioned costume
- My cat is named Taiga.

If this doesn't make me an otaku, then please tell what would.

Geeky girls can be hot, but I wouldn't go so far as to generalize and claim that they all are. I'd probably agree that I am more attracted to them in that we are more likely to have common interests, but usually that isn't found out until afterwould anyway, so it isn't really an attraction based on looks.

I think geeks are incredibly attracting. I usually catch myself gawking away at them in grocery stores or food joints. Why?! What mechanisim do they use to make the knees so weak??
Any other geek-lovers of the community of Escapist?
I'm pretty sure you're a great example. Not saying you're a geek, but just a good example of geeks or whatnot being sexii!

Being a guy, I can't really say girl gamers are hot, because to be honest, I only know one girl gamer, and yeah she is extremely hot but it's hard to come across girl gamers, and I never see them in real life anyways.

Geek: A person who is single-minded or accomplished in scientific or technical pursuits but is felt to be socially inept.

You guys do know there's a difference between geek and nerd, am I right?

OT: I personally love women with a sense of.. for want of a better term, class. Some call this geekiness, others say nerdiness, i just love a chick that can keep up with my kills on Halo 3, and doesnt continuously play as zoe or die noncancessantly on L4D.

By the way, I'm new :/

That doesn't make you an Otaku, it makes you awesome.

I'm accustomed to seeing exactly the opposite distinction being made. Wikipedia mostly agrees with me. Geeks need not be socially inept, but nerds do. I'm a martial arts geek more than a gamer geek to tell the truth, but in character and appearance most nerds would dismiss me as a jock.

Its the whole "Air of Intelligence" thing. Some people are attracted by looks and muscles, others by personality and brainpower. It also may be the glasses. I myself find the smart girls more attractive than the "beautiful" girls.

Give me an average looking smart girl with glasses instead of luscious boobalicious blond!
By 'beautiful girls' do you mean the bleached blondes with an even tan who show of their body parts with small or revealing clothes?

All the smart girls I know are beautiful, they just don't do what most of these bimbo's do.

Well look at my tafe there's this girl... for privacy sake let's call her 'NW'. She is an english girl who moved here to Australia, got the accent and everything. She is very pretty, thin, tall, long hair, pleasant face. She doesn't dress like the other girls she kinda dresses her own way and she also is much easier to talk to than most girls because she talks about things like the Xbox 360 and her favourite games and her love for violent action movies and horror movies. She cracks clever jokes and is actually a fan of some of the more extreme violent games.
I have another female friend at Tafe who is also a geek, let's call her Katie as that's her name. Anyway Katie is also a geek but a geek into very specific types of things. She loves the beatles and she plays really wierd and wacky video games. It feels strange talking to her about violent movies and stuff because usually you can't say that when ladies are present but she is unfazed. She too is easy on the eyes.

The thing is I agree that geeky girls are actually very attractive especially going by recent years because movies like Juno stand as an example that being geeky can be 'cool' because it's the geeky ones who have real personality and for a geeky girl with a great personality living amongst other geeks it makes her cool. I think in general 'geek' now translates to 'cool' and so with the flush of geeky girls proving to actually be petty hot (especially in Perth where the nerdy girls are positivley radiant with beauty) then yes I think it's official.
The 'cool popular people' no longer have the monopoly on beautiful people with great personalities. It's true, geeky girls these days are sexy girls and this is partly in thanks to thier great personalities that make them more fun to talk to.
Same can be said for geek men.

I don't define people as "geeks" or "non-geeks". I'm a pretty geek'ish person myself, but I'm a good looking guy and I wear clothes that I like, are fashionable and the ladies really dig.

So my point is, I can't really define people as geeky or not. Almost all of the geeks I know don't look geeky.

If you mean if I am attracted to the stereotypical geeky/nerdy people, then no. Some women look astoundingly gorgeous with the right amount of geek'ish attire, but mostly no.

Wikipedia is home to thousands of self righteous nerds who thrive to prove others wrong, even if it means going against their own social stereotype.

"Geekism" isn't truly defined by appearence or clothes preferences, it's merely based on the persons attitude and hobbies.

But you could be right, and you probably are.

Some aspects of geekiness can be sexy but some definately arent.

Geeky Voice, spots, pale skin, tiny muscles, geeky laughter. The massive sterotypes are probably pretty unattractive to both genders but since no geek is actually like that, then sure geeks are smexy.

I'm going out with a geek and it's the best thing ever. We're talking penchant for comic books, glasses, the lot. Except he's not the cliche socially inept weirdo who thinks that R2-D2 is real.

Geeks are just awesome all round anyway because they're not as vain as some blocks and are often nicer people.

I assume the OP is talking about 'geek chique' looking people, because there is really no other way to recognise them other than the ones who dress like that!

I guess its sometimes easy to pick out a geek in a line up, but its not always true; I am definitely a geek (ask my friends) but you wouldn't know it unless you talked to me or I was wearing one of my FEW geeky yet understated (sic) items of clothing - Batman T-Shirt, One-Up hoody, Batman Belt, Superman Belt. The rest of the time I'm likely wearing board-shorts and rugby shirts.

I need some more geek clothes!

Everybody:

No, you don't.

You find physically attractive people attractive. You find clear skin of whatever color you prefer attractive. You find symmetry attractive. Whether you like DDs or AAs they have to be the same size. Yes, they do. You find a certain body type most attractive, and other body types less attractive. I have yet to find a work of fiction depicting a "sexy geek" that doesn't depict a sexy person independent of geek status.

Look at the girl somebody posted on page 1: She's stunning. What's her profession? Model. Is she smart? Do you know whether she is or not because she's wearing glasses in that picture? Of course not. But you do know whether or not you find her attractive. See what I mean?

Hollywood has decided that it can put a stunning young woman who is a 9 or 10 in unflattering clothing, glasses, and a messy up-do, and give her geek appeal, but they always give her a makeover by the end of the second act.

Your real "geek" stereotypical gamer girl or guy who stays up all night gaming and eating crap food, never gets out in the sun or to the gym, speaks in weird jargon particular to her gaming/anime/academic obsession doesn't have any plans on Saturday night except ones pertaining to said obsession, I guarantee.

I find it attractive when a woman has obviously already won the genetic lottery and topped it off with a robust interest in her own body and society. I have my doubts about people who claim otherwise.
Dis man speak tha truth, praise the lawd Raptah Jesus!

Ahem... besides which, I think we are all forgetting the truth that girls don't exist on the internet, much like "the cake" and a nigerian lottery ticket number that is actually not a scam to mug you.
