This person looks way too tomboyish to me for some reason. Maybe Shiek would be a better fit. I never pictured Zelda as an Angelina Jolie-type ice queen. She needs some rounder edges.
I've seen some pics of her with softer features, so doesn't seem a problem that cant be solved with some makeup. Somewhat androgynous features might also be an advantage in case she needs to portray both Zelda and Sheik. Guess we'll see what comes of it, if anything.

Call of Duty: Black Ops 6 now shows you microtransaction ads when you swap weapons
"Actively witnessing Call of Duty become the Krusty Krab."
A split screenshot: left side shows a Tracer Pack ad at the top of the weapon select menu; the right shows in-game action of Black Ops 6

Eagle-eyed Call of Duty: Black Ops 6 players have spotted a new feature on the weapon selection menu.

Right at the top there now sits advertisements promoting premium weapons and skins, so players get exposed to ads for microtransactions in-game.

As some players point out, it's not an advert in the classic sense, and no one's trying to flog you a cheeseburger or a pair of jeans every time you swap a weapon. Nonetheless, it's a new and insidious addition that we haven't seen in Call of Duty games before.

"One of the unwelcome changes I’ve noticed with Season 4 is that they’ve now inserted a new ad spot at the top of the list of your weapon specifics builds," wrote one player. "So now every time you toggle between weapon builds you get to stare at ads for $20-$30 skins. I’m sure the Activision developer who suggested this terrible feature is very proud of themselves.

"This change is especially unneeded because you could already toggle from Builds to Shop on any given weapon and apparently not being thrown directly in our faces didn’t make them enough money. Many of us payed [sic] $60-$100 for a feature game and don’t want to be bombarded with additional ads."

"Actively witnessing Call of Duty become [SpongeBob SquarePants'] the Krusty Krab," replied another.

"Well guys looks like COD can suck a fat one," replied someone else. "This ad mess is ridiculous. They make huge bank already for them to even do this should be illegal. I've never been done with a COD this fast ever. But she's getting deleted. You can't scrounge people for money and not have a decent game. I'm not asking for a great game, just not a buggy game."

In a separate thread that's been upvoted almost a thousand times, one player opined: "I wouldn't even be mad if this was just in warzone, a free game, but putting it in a pay-to-play premium title, with how expensive they're getting?"

"Agree 100%, it really feels like one of those free cell phone games from a tiny indie studio begging you for money at every turn. Pathetic for a full price, stand alone game from a huge developer," replied another.

Earlier this year, in a update shared on social media, developer Treyarch said it recognised cheaters "are frustrating and severely impact the experience for our community" but insisted it was addressing the issue, and will continue to do so "throughout 2025". At the same time, it confirmed 136,000 ranked play accounts were banned for cheating across both Call of Duty: Black Ops 6 and Warzone.

Seems unlikely tho. Nintendo too conservative and risk-averse. Griftosphere would also have a field day.
usually when ppl claim 'well known videogame character' should be played by 'some actor they personally like' it's another "yeah whatever I guess, could go either way" which was my initial reaction to seeing the name Hunter Schafer thrown in for Zelda, but then I googled out of curiosity cos name sounded familiar

that's a Zelda out in the wild, a free range Zelda?

And it's not like there are that many roles for elves out there.

Well, no, she's technically a Hylian. But they're sorta elvish. Zelda in particular, tho can't forget about Link, aka gaming's most fuckable twink.
That They/them in the photo above could make a good link. But Zelda should still be a super model.

The true battle of the console wars wasn't whether Zelda OOT or FF7 was better. The real battle was about which blonde twink wore the dress better. To which the answer is Link

Hunter is often fancast as Mystique as well, which I think is much likelier because of the X-Men = LGBT pipeline, and Nintendo's interest and stance on Western idpol boiling down to a crass, throwaway joke in the manual to 1987's Super Mario Bros. 2 about how Birdo "thinks he is a girl" - which is probably as far as they give a shit, to this day.

The Zelda fancast is one of those internet hype things that will probably go nowhere, like Nathan Fillion playing Drake.

Before you get angry at Nintendo for being too conservative, if this was Disney or Sony they'd probably just take the performative middle road and cast Hunter in a disappointing cameo as Zelda's aunt or multiverse Zelda (see Donald Glover as Miles Morales' uncle, or John Krasinski as multiverse Reed Richards) and call it a win.

Also, I think that whole Birdo thing was changed. Plus Vivian from Paper Mario: The Thousand Year Door. Sure, Nintendo is conservative, but they're still Japanese. And while the femboy might not be seen as the best trans rep, it's something that Japan (and Nintendo) appears far more comfortable with than certainly America.

Eh, my impression is Japan thinks cross-dressing is funny. I mean, it can be. But that they think that's all there is to it. When it shows up, like in Pokemon or Final Fantasy (or Lazarus, if you're still watching that), it's always treated as a joke, either on the person forced to wear the thing or on the people "duped".

In any case I think the matter is trivialized by a tradition of hundreds of years of cross-dressing on stage. The bigger hurdle in Japanese media is transgenderism, where it's almost always presented as a result of perversion or like a criminal gene. The Deadly Premonition or Resident Evil: Code Veronica approach.

But Vivian's a good example though, I'd forgotten about her.

It is in a weird place (duh, it's Japan), but the cross dressing or the highly effeminate male is treated with more respect in Japanese fiction than being gay is (at least, in anything that isn't expicitly yaoi). Even in regards to the "trap" the people in question are always depicted as beautiful, and after being "discovered" it usually doesn't result in them tarred and feathered or put in jail. In Pokemon (with James) it's a joke, sure, but it's never presented as visually grotesque.

When it comes gay rep I'm mainly thinking of Persona 5 and One Punch Man though, where gay guys are these icky looking dudes who want to assault men.

Original Persona 5 was kinda like that in that one scene, but I feel like Royal toned it down a bit (admittedly, it has been about 5 years since I last played it), and in both versions of the game there's Lala-chan who is nothing but friendly and respectful to the protagonist, and respectfully treated by the game. Admittedly, Lala-chan fits a very specific cultural niche that the random guys in that other scene don't exactly, but even so.

First time I've ever heard of gaming hardware review embargo. This can't be good
What happened Nintendo? Did your balls drop off? Even with that in mind, they could have still sent the consoles out to the reviewers. Just inform them about the updates and move on.

Deltarune 3 & 4 join Half-Life: Alyx, Geometry Dash 2.2 and the discovery of the most distant thing known to man * in the long ranks of things to happen before Hollow Knight: Silksong.

* Instead of the discovery of MoM z14, a galaxy merely 280 million light years away, I was going to use "Trump admitting he was wrong" for that joke, but I couldn't find any instances of that happening.
