Whatever you get, I would suggest getting on the PC due to reduced price and mods.

Ooh, I know Orange box + garry's mod, you can do all kinds of things in that game

How the hell do you get by on 20 bucks a month? I literally spend that every day, and I'm a student.
I think, based on the post, he lives with his parents so he probably doesn't have any bills.

OT: Just from your list that you provided I would go with Halflife.

What, ladies aren't allowed to voice their opinion here?? ;)
I'd also vote for Team Fortress 2. I'm mostly an RPG player, but I just got TF2, and it's re-playability and fun factor make it a valuable addition to my game collection.
Other than that, you should really get the "Mass Effect" games, if you can, they're a nice blend of the RPG and shooter genres. And since Mass Effect came out in 2008, you shouldn't have any problem running it (although I've heard that the Steam version gets temperamental, but there are work around's).

Portal is free till the 24th.
Go with either Morrowind or Fallout 3.

Hate to burst your bubble, but each game you cited is a game the OP already owns and likes... =)

Consider Final Fantasy XIII for 360. I have no idea if you like JRPGs or not, but that's another idea for you to read up on. Your friend could love you for it, haha.

Since the OP dislikes the Half Life series apart from the original, and Portal is currently available for free on Steam, the only thing in the Orange Box that has appeal for him is Team Fortress 2.

So if you're going to say that, he should just get TF2.

Oh my bad, didn't read the part in brackets. I'll make it my priority to be more thorough in future.

Hmm, I'm not sure about this, but X3: Terran Conflict? I have many of those games you listed (All except Halo, GoW and L4D), and I really like it. It's a motherfucking time vampire though. I've spent 48 hours in the game and I'm still only flying a ship which is... well...

That's me, looking at a transport ship which is still a kilometer away at the target box, and extending almost behind me off-screen.

That's the scale of it. I'm in the ship about halfway down. The argon M6, in that group of tiny ones below the three big green ones. That's how insignificant I am after a whole 48 hours in game.

So yeah, that game is pretty long-haul. It's difficult, too. But awesome.

And Mount and Bade Warband. It's called a stand alone expansion, but it's more M&B 1.5. It's fantastic.

Team Fortress 2 for sure.

If you liked Diablo2 you could consider Titan Quest Gold, It took me about 60h to complete the first time and has quite some replay value.

Assassins creed 1 and 2, 1 is about 20 bucks at the moment I believe and 2 is worth saving up for imo :) 1 is a maybe a bit repetitive but still my second favorite game (just under Assassins creed 2 :p ) Good luck!

get an RPG on the PS3. it should take a while to finish, and make sure you do all the side missions and get all the stuff on the game. i suggest the assasins creed games or Dragon Age.

Check out Good Old Games for some cheap classics. They have some great RPGs and Adventure games. X-com can keep you entertained for ages and I have a feeling your PC can run it. X-com is available from Steam.

I require your assistance. I have been unemployed since Christmas. Now, normally this isn't a bad thing for me, I save and budget myself 20 bucks a month, and it gets me by for doing stuff with friends.

This all changed, I can no longer use 20 bucks a month, mainly to focus more on my girlfriend and to keep my parents happy that I'm not spending much. HOWEVER, I have decided to get a game, or make a steam purchase. this game should be able to last me a long time, but I'm not sure what to get.

I have a good internet connection, but I have already gotten the most out of Assassins Creed 2 that I think I will want to on my friend's 360. I own a PC, nothing else.

Other Games I own and like (both from friend's 360 and my PC):

Fallout 3
Oblivion
Morrowind
KOTOR 2
L4D
Halo 1-3
Gears of War 1+2
Portal
Half life 1 (but none of the others... I dont like them, just for reference)
STALKER Shadow of Chernobyl and Clear Sky, Call of Pripyat is already going to be added once I steal my friend's copy.

You get the picture. Real time combat RPG's, shooters, and a small dabbling in puzzles.

My first choice would be Team Fortress 2. I heard its HIGHLY ADDICTIVE, but I am faced with a small decision. VALVe games normally give me migraines and motion sickness. However on my PC they don't seem to occur. (a couple hours of portal and nothing, when a half hour started to nag on me on the consoles) I am ready to consider the orange box. But I noticed that if I fork over a few extra bucks, I can get TF1 in addition to TF2. It should be noted that I already have portal for free, thanks to the good deal that is going on right now in steam.

So, a little help? I'm not set on TF2 or the orange box by any means, just exploring my VALVe options. Any (serious) suggestion is welcome, no matter the brand.

For a little info, I dont think metro 2033 could run on my PC, and Just Cause 2 (a big expense I'm not sure of taking on, but goddamn was that fun when my buddy rented it...) makes me nervous, it might be chuggy. I run Oblivion on high, and Fallout 3 on medium-high (basically medium with HDR on rather than Bloom and a 1280x 800 or whatever resolution)

Thanks.

Just Cause 2 lasts forever.
And I saw that you have KOTOR 2, but not KOTOR 1. If you haven't played it, get it now, and relish in the orgasm inducing awesomeness.
Otherwise, I'd say Just Cause, or TF2. While I didn't like TF2, tons of people did, and given that it is multiplayer only, it can last quite a long time.

I would NOT recommend just cause 2, and i like it.
Its something i find myself playing for a hour or so, its fun for a while but EXTREMELY repetitive, and believe me when i say not to let the demo make up your mind,i sank, no joke, 6 and a half hours playing the just cause 2 demo, and ive played the full retail game for just under 5, some might say i board myself on the demo, but i lent it to my friend who had played the demo for 10 minutes up mine once and even he couldn't break more than 5-6 hours in the 2 weeks he borrowed it for

I don't mean to rant on just cause 2, but i can really understand only having one game to last you for a while,i myself am in a similar situation, but i fork out 8 bucks a week for wow, so im happy.

But really, if you want a game that will last you until the cows learn to build jets and fucking fly home i would HIGHLY recommend mass effect 2, get the first one too if you can afford it, but you don't absolutely NEED to play the first one and the 2nd one is a hell of alot better

Also, just alittle tip from one limited gamer to another:
10 day free trials are your friends, you may want to try a few MMO's etc to keep you occupied, i know i do, i don't want to get accused of advertising so i wont, but send me a message and i can send you a few links to some "Fun for 10 days" style games :)

The Orange Box is a must buy. It's cheaper than most newer releases and has five good games in it. Other than that... screw it, buy the Orange Box.

You should have added a poll! D:

You can get Portal for free, so you get 2 games.

You can get Morrowind for less than $5 on Amazon. It's pretty old. So, you can get 3 games :D

I would personally pick STALKER or Oblivion, but that's just my taste. Find out which game has the longest play time OR the best replay value.

In Oblivion, you can waste days upon days using funny exploits, wantering the lans, & testing mods. There are tons & tons of user mods, but that exact same story applies to Morrowind. I recommend downloading the Octopus Overloard Morrowind Mod Pack.
