Well Germany is certainly a post-heroic society if not even simulations of modern combat are allowed. I'd hate to be in a country under threat of invasion when even simulations and games of combat amongst the populace were banned. Given Germany's history of wars and conflicts (thinking Thirty Years' War here, not 20th century) do they really think peace will be forever and the people will never have to fight again?

No team-skills, no targetting training or something like firearms experience, no élan from comfort in dangerous situations. Germany had best hope Russia does not expand before it collapses internally.

Hell yeah.
It's facinating to watch people shit bricks, when they talk about Germany. Yeah, I'm german. Yeah, I'm proud of it. And yeah, I think 60% of you guys are hell of overstrained, when they have to think about politics, and modern societies.

It's naturally to babble about my cultural background, if you're one of lucky people, whose nation almost triumphant surpresses the terrible acts, it comitted within it's history. Really, I envy you, for that you have not to reflect on a part of your cultural past, that doesn't directly influence your life, but the approach of other ethnicities toward you, and your countries way of life.

I also envy your nearsightedness regarding such topics, as mentioned above. I would gladly trade your simple-mindedness for the negative and almost aggressive attitude towards the past my forefathers lived in.

Unwissenheit ist ein Segen. Für die Wissenden ein Fluch.

so long. chaotarch.

PS : I also do not agree with the draft law lurking around the corner to ban paintball.

They really must hate paintball huh? Looks like they're blaming paintball on their problems. And now they're going to wipe out paintball. Almost as if it's a, I don't know, Holocaust against paintball? Sound familiar maybe?
Don't go there.

thats pretty damn offensive. you just compared the outlawing of paintball to the killing of millions of jews. im not agreeing with outlawing paintball, but jesus fucking christ, your clearly a moron. brutally eliminating those innocent things? there just banning it, not killing paintballers. how dare you compare the current german government, and attitudes of an entire nation, to Nazism?
Alright, I really don't see the problem people are having here. Yes I was comparing the Holocaust and the banning of paintball. But just because I was comparing them doesn't mean I was saying they were the same thing. Look up the definition of the word compare. And I clearly wasn't being completely serious, I know you can't hear tones over the internet but, come on.

All I was doing was jokingly pointing out the similarities between the two situations. 1930s, Germany encounters problem (economic depression), identifies false cause (Jews), takes action against them with no regard for the victims (Jews).

2009, Germany encounters problem (school shooting), identifies false cause (paintball), takes action against it with no regard for the victims (paintballers).

They are similar. Just like I said. Did I ever say in my first post "They're the same thing!"? No. I pointed out they were similar. That's it. If you think I said they were the same thing, then you're clearly a moron.

Which by the way I find that sort of insulting language extremely innapropriate to use, especially over a misunderstanding on your part.

It's a very touchy subject, at least in Germany. We don't make fun of it or use it light-hearted. Well, shouldn't.

The one thing I'm really proud of is how we were forced to work up our past. Everyone should do it because there's lots of dirt hidden in any countries past.

Wow, really? Overreacting much?

Germany sucks. And they were just barely recovering from the whole World War 2 thing, when they sucked a lot.

Germans must love blaming their problems on completely harmless things and then brutally eleminating those innocent things. I guess it's a cultural thing.

Ya, I agree with razer17, your being stupid there. However, I get where your going with it, but you are taking an extreme where it shouldn't go. Don't bring up killing with banning, for your doing something worst then those banning it. They banned laser-tag and paintball oven a school shooting.

Also Germany is banning laser-tag, someone please realize that! Banning laser-tag is even worst then banning paintball!

Maybe we could solve this problem by getting Germans to write letters and protest to get the government to realize how stupid they're being.

For some reason I don't feel like this is going to be a very long-lasting thing. Paintball (and laser tag) are so obviously harmless. The only reason this is happening at all is because of the panic over the shootings and the government feeling like they need to do something. Eventually, someone's got to realize they're wrong.

Which is why I suggest protests, to make them realize it faster.

It's not gonna get banned.

Typical populistic approach. Strike at something that doesn't hurt much and look like you took action. Working on the real problems would cost much more money and be much more complicate.

Oh the irony, teenage gunman kills 16 people with live ammunition, firearms will remain legal under tighter controls, government moves to ban paintballing.

It seems to be lost on the Germans that despite having the tightest censorship of any european country, they're the one with the school massacre on their hands. Perhaps they should be looking at that and questioning their priorities.

as for your first point, the fact that you weren't being wholly serious i direct you here http://rationalwiki.com/wiki/Poe%27s_Law pretty hard to tel you were joking as it sounded damn serious. and no i will not look up the definition of similar. i happen to study english so i damn well know what it means. but in the case that saying something is similar can't be offensive, how would you like it if i said you were similar to a paedophile? (you're probably not, im just making a point). A comparison can still be very offensive.
and you know what is inappropriate ? (yeah i can point out pointless spelling mistakes too) What's inappropriate is linking a country back to a time many would much prefer to forget about. Plus too keep linking Germany to Nazism after all these years really bugs me. It would annoy you too if you went through five years of racial epithets in school.

This. Reminds me of the time they tried to outlaw kids from playing tag.
What? Is that a joke or did they really do that?
Well the tag one was done here in the good ol USA

It also said that dodgeball was "exclusionary and dangerous". Calling it dangerous seems exaggerated yet understandable, but exclusionary? That's what my dad would call treating kids like nancy-boys.

That Poe's Law thing is interesting, but frankly it's unsulting that you'd rather assume that I was an insulting, stereotyping moron rather than a person making a lighthearted joke.

And I said to look up the word "compare", not "similar", but I'll assume that was just a simple mistake. It doesn't matter anyway. But don't you think the pedophile thing was a bit pointless? Yes you could compare me to a pedophile, but you would find many more differences than similarities. That is opposed to the subject at hand, where I compared the actions of 1930s Germany to Germany's banning of paintball and found quite a few similarities. So if you said I was similar to a pedophile, you would be lying.

And I really don't see what you meant by your last point. How does going through racial epithets in school make you be annoyed by linking Germany to Nazism? They see completely unrelated to me. And by "went through" did you mean you were called them? I don't know what you were trying to prove, but as a Jew I've been called a kike plenty of times, it hasn't effected me.

And yes many people would prefer to forget about the Holocaust, but that doesn't mean they should. We Jews make a point of keeping the memory of the Holocaust alive in the hopes that such a thing will never happen again, as I believe everyone should. Ignoring or forgetting about the Holocaust is both irresponsible and insulting to all the people who were victims of it.

EDIT:
