I can almost see it:

At first an angry mob will walk the streets vandalising every video game shop.
Then they will search people's houses for violent games (hiding them will be a punishable offence) and load them onto trains that will transport them to Poland, where they will be burnt in special facilities. They will call it Final Solution of Violent Video Games Question.
Godwin'd, g'night folks.
*plays commercial break music and has credit's promo*

Coming up next after the late^3 show with A random person, what wacky hijinx will Sanford and Son be up to? Stay tuned to find out.

Actually that kid made that video as a response to the government's view on gamers.

Way to miss the point :D

It's a parody. Watch this:

There is no way that this kid is not mentally ill.
It was an act. The dude was trying to show that that is what the government sees gamers as, and he was trying to show how ridiculous that viewpoint was. The video obviously was then shown in the wrong context after that.

I wonder what would be the punishment for selling or buying videogames if the law got passed. I don't see how they could give you jail time for that even tho most other illegal contraband is given jail time for the offense.
Just as interesting, how are they planning to get rid of all the games people already own?

All humans are violent.

Every single one of them has the potential to be violent. No matter how much, no matter how hard they want to pretend its not true. Every single human is still an animal, with the same base instincts as the apes they come from.

Some can resist those instincts better then others. To blame violence on video games is an act so stupid my mind cannot fully comprehend how far you have to be up your own ass to come up with such a pea-brained idea.

It was just as stupid when they blamed it comic books.
It was just as stupid when they blamed it on rock music.
Its still stupid now that they want to blame it on video games.

I think this can largely be blamed on Hitler and the German people's hatred for him and all violence.

You see what you have done you bastards! I blame all of you! You sons of bitches just had to keep buying those WW2 games didn't you? You just had to keep shooting Nazis over and over and over and over and over again! Well Germany has had enough! No more being the bad guy!

But seriously if this was the stance that Germany took on banning video games I would support them. I would hate re-living that period in history, especially if you are trying to grow as a nation. I mean, Christ, a dozen different people have already made Nazi references in the thread already. But no, they went to ban the distribution of an item during a recession.

Really its the video game industries fault. They need to hire who ever does PR for cigarettes and "change" the politician's opinion. And by change, i mean pay them.

It's not just limited to WW2 games. They are talking about a ban on ALL violent games, from Call of Duty to World of Warcraft. Don't forget this affects the distribution of games even to other countries, as Crytek would not be able to release Crysis 2 or Far Cry sequels if any.

They'll never go through with it. The backlash would put the current German government out of power and send shockwaves through the country politically speaking, since no-one is going to support it in the public. Plus, it'll be too great a loss of revenue for the country's gaming industry, the government would have to be idiots to do that in this economic climate. There's no way they can do it without commiting social and political suicide.
I think you are overestimating the political power of gamers. A vast majority of voters don't play video games and couldn't care less whether they're allowed or not.
Not to mention that a great deal of gamers can't be bothered to vote either.

They're not on the verge, don't be ridiculous. This will never pass through government.

If it did, the backlash would be so enourmous that games would be back in days.
This. There's no way this will pass. Freedom is very important in western civilizations, and Germany is one of them. Also, there are hundreds of shops that rely on video game sales and by banning all the 'violent' videogames, plenty of them might go bankrupt or at least get into serious financial problems.

We all agree that economically this wouldn't be intelligent, however Germany is heavily censored, so while it's not very likely that violent games will be banned, there is still a possibility is there not? A number of games have been banned from there before, and the shootings only add fuel to the fire.
