Considering I once got banned on Xbox Live for playing an r16 game (oh wow look at this blubberburg loser he was playing cod) for a day cause my clantag or something hinted at the F word... Yeah doesnt seem good. Get reported for beating some kids and they claim you abused them with live chat? Not likely but still would be really really sucky

Wait? can you even buy a second hand XBone?
I'm speculating there, I can't see how the console can be permanently hard locked to a single live account but who knows?

Just read a good mini summary of potential bans from Yagharek on Neogaf;

People have been banned for taking advantage of badly coded games (which is about on par with spawn camping rather than hacking). People have had their accounts hijacked, had credit stolen from them and then been banned for getting a chargeback when the platform holder refuses refunds. People have been banned for buying games a day early. People have been banned because Halo 4 map packs were made available for free by mistake, and they got them.

Apologies for the second post but the Escapist forums do not play well with editing on the Android browser. :-(

Hm, a rather hash decision. But seeing that they're presenting their console as a service, it logical.

I guess they looked at steam. Nah.. they gone far beyond what steam can do with your account if you do bad. They can ban you, that locks the content to your content, you can't trade it.. but you still can play single player games. And of course games not using VAC.

Then again steam isn't that bad. Becoming banned will pretty much cripple the xbox one. Remember the xbox 360 if you we're banned they would cripple the HDD. So your installed games and videos and so on wouldn't be playable. Also your savegame would be marked "broken"

You could fix this, if you we're hacking anyway, by making a backup of certain sectors before a ban happened and after the ban putting the data in those sectors back.

Xbox One, well is seemingly even going to be allot worse at it.

Seems microsoft doesn't beliefs in "ownership" .. but instead RENTS you the GAMES and CONSOLE ... and they can revoke the license.

Not sure if they can get that through in some countries. Microsoft might get into big trouble for this in some places..

Seems a little harsh, I mean we're talking possibly hundreds of dollars, hell maybe thousands of dollars of games all taken away because of one stupid decision. I could see blocking online access, or maybe just removing the game you did it with, but stripping you of your whole library, essentially making your device completely useless? That almost feels like it shouldn't be legal.

Thats actually a good thing, if you don't plan to cheat or be a complete asshole to everyone then you have nothing to worry about.

You do know that the only way to get banned on xbox live right now is for hacking right? So as long as you are not going around hacking in games or moding your system then you have absolutely nothing to worry about. Hey on the plus side it might reduce the number of these assholes in multiplayer games.
I've got to agree with this. People hacking can really ruin your experience. I actually hink this will be good for the honest consumers.

Let's just hope this wont change too much and do what EA where bans are also about behavior on the forum.

I have to ask if you're familiar with some of the bans handed out on XBL?

Can't say that i am, i'm assuming you can get banned for ridiculous reasons then? In that case it might get annoying for few unlucky people.

Those people saying this is a good thing clearly haven't thought through the implications. The fact they can take away your property (or should I say, your "property") at will is revolting. It's great in that it discourages hackers, but it does so in the same way getting your hand chopped off discourages theft. Whether the system is run my machines or people, mistakes will be made. Innocent people will get burned by this. If you're wrongly convicted for petty theft and get a fine and some community service, it sucks but it's not the end of the world. If you get wrongly convicted for petty theft and lose your fucking hand, that's inexcusable.

Not something I agree with if something you are doing is ruining the gaming experience for other people i.e hacking or being extremely abusive I see no problem with banning from the online experience or warning them first (depending on severity).

But stripping you of the ability to play all your games no thats just bullshit because there is the chance that you could ban someone for doing nothing wrong its just others are claiming they are some people are dicks like that. Also I really do see this as theft I know Microsoft dont have a problem with that unless its against them but I do, cant play nice with others make them play on their own dont take everything.

Yes it's the same as Steam and Origin. No it's not fucking acceptable, that's atrocious. This is where the whole games-as-services thing really needs to fuck right off, once you buy a product you should own it. At least if Steam or Origin take your games you can (theoretically) pirate them with a clear conscience to play them again.

Even if you're a hacker, I think banning your account should at the most prevent online play, I would even go so far as to say only in the title you were hacking in until you reoffend. Banning you from playing any games is ridiculous. Not to mention the risks of accidental banning, although I don't think that happens much on Live thankfully.

Hey, this may end up being a beneficial thing i some way.

With that type of sword hanging over their heads, maybe it will dramatically cut back on the number of immature knuckle heads screaming "******" into their headsets?
Ooooor...those guys will band together, send in a storm of complaints to microsoft about anyone being better at them "hacking" or "being rude" and getting them suspended or even banned...

Except the original question was clearly about XBone games.

So, while it isn't a completely clear answer and it is indeed correct information, you can apparently lose access to XBone games that are tied to your account if you get banned (probably referring to digital downloads). When asked if the same also applies to disc-based games, Xbox Support can't provide an answer and links to info on sharing games on the XBone, indicating they knew fully well what console the questions were about. I don't know why'd they'd later bring up the 360. Maybe genuine confusion? Maybe they're dodging the question and doing damage control?

Regardless, "What happens to my XBone library should my account get taken away?" is yet another question about the console that has yet to be fully answered.

While it is normal for a console manufacturer to get swamped with questions whenever they show off a new system, the last few days have been an absolute PR disaster for Microsoft. People are worried and clamoring for information and Microsoft seems unable or unwilling to provide clarity in a time when they really should.

Re-read your link, this is about the X1, not the 360.

OT: Would you expect anything else from the MSFT Overlords? It is nothing more than children with dreams of being a Tyrant becoming fulfilled at this point.
