Getting a PS3, any recommendations?

Of course I'm going to have multiplayer =) !!! That's what I'm most psyched about, to get onto the PSN.

Oh yes, I'd like to ask two more questions. One, what do you recommend I should use to connect my PS3 to my router? Built-in Wifi or ethernet cable? Since MY PS3 will be very close to my router I'm thinking of just using an ethernet cable so that possibly its Wifi signals won't be interrupted in any way.

Two, I'm having a small party next week to try out the PS3 with friends and family? ANy games recommended for that? My friend might bring over Resistance 2, Warhawk, and CoD4, but I might be able to rent a game for it so I want a recommendation.

Okay, quick question here, but do you already have a 360? If no, then well... that opens up the games you should get by a good margin.

If yes, Little Big Planet, and Valkyria Chronicles are your best bets, really.

You also need Warhawk. If you have a ps3, you really may as well have warhawk.

I also recommend downloading some of the free demos for the downloadable games on PSN: anything Pixel Junk, echocrome, Last Guy, Trash Panic, there's a ton of good ones. The best part: they're fun and cheap.

Well right now I only have a Wii, so when I get my PS3 I'll most likely get most of the multiplatform games like Bioshock, Fallout 3, Oblivion and other games for the PS3.

I'm on a tight budget so far so I won't get the 360 till way later in the future.

Little Big Planet, Valkyria Chronicles, Uncharted, Resistance 2 and/or Killzone 2. If you like action platformers you could look into Ratchet & Clank Future: Tools of Destruction and if you're into racing Gran Turismo 5 Prologue and Motorstorm: Pacific Rift.

Worthwhile exclusives for PS3: LBP, InFamous and whatever ratchet and clank games are floating around.

I personally use Wireless internet but my cousin uses an Ethernet cable and that works fine. My wireless is far away but I can still host and connect to games quite well. I suggest trying them both out and seeing then.

Also if your getting PSN. Buy Fat Princess. No buts. Buy now mortal. Incredibly fun game and hilarious.

I recommend getting Little Big Planet. Some may say it is a kid's game, but it's for anyone that enjoys a fun and addictive platformer. If you are a FPS fan, I recommend getting Killzone 2.

my ps3 broke and i'm pretty content with my 360 (purchased after cos fuck if i'm saving up for another ps3)

but i've been dying to play metal gear 4. and my ever so slight fanboyish leanings will make me feel guilty playing final fantasy on the 360. for at least a day.

I use wi-fi for my PS3, the router's in the room next to me, and I don't really have any problems with it. My PS3 occasionally kicks my entire house off the internet and VoIP, but I fixed that problem. It works fine over wi-fi but if you can get a hardwired connection I'd definitely go with that instead. The wi-fi does work well though.

I can't recommend Uncharted enough - it's a really good game and it's got replayability.

If you haven't already got them, I'd also recommend Burnout Paradise and Fallout 3.

Buy Killzone 2, Uncharted, LittleBigPlanet, Motorstorm Pacific Rift, Resistance games, Dead Space, Fallout 3, Watchmen the end is nigh, Sega Mega Collection, Soul Caliber 4, Rainbow Six Las Vegas games, Red Faction, Metal Gear Solid 4, Battlefield Bad Company, Ratchet and Clank: Tools of Destruction. When they come out: God of War 3, Gran Turismo 5, Batman Arkham Asylum, Uncharted 2, Borderlands, MAG, Heavy Rain, Ratchet and Clank: Crack in Time. Hope they will satisfy you if anyone else any other recomendations thats cool too.
