Getting a PS3, any recommendations?

This sums up my feelings quite well:

OH MY GOD!

Look at Wolf-man's leg!

I'd recommend inFAMOUS, Metal Gear Solid 4, BioShock, Uncharted, Motorstorm and Resistance 2.

I didn't like Killzone 2 at all, and I got bored of LittleBigPlanet rather quickly.

Maybe if they had paid attention to backwards compatibility I'd be nicer to it.

Isn't every PS1 game playable on the PS3?

I cannot comment on the PS2 titles, as I do not use my PS3 for those, but from the PS1 games I've played, Sony pretty much gets that backwards compatibility is something gamers want.

LittleBigPlanet and Warhawk are the only 2 PS3 games I've played that don't have a superior alternative on other consoles, so start there, I suppose. I hear Infamous is good too.

All of my ps1 games work on my Ps3 but there are a couple of ps2 ones that dont work like the first and 4th ratchet and clank and ff 12

That was my main reason for staying away. It's pricey and I'd have to start from scratch game-wise, seeing as my PS2 is just about sputter out and die. Either that or buy another PS2 as well.

Any news on the PS2 games? I would assume... but it's never good to make assumptions.

id say uncharted: drakes fortune, assassins creed although it might get a little "seen this, done that" , i really enjoyed battlefield bad company, in PSN is fat princess wich is fun.
and the next couple of months there will be lots of releases like uncharted 2, assassins creed 2, MAG, etc.

get worms off PSN, FF 7 off PSN and other playstation exclusives worth getting are Little Big Planet, metal gear solid 4, infamous, Resistance: fall of man, resistance two. non-exclusive games worth getting are bioshock, GTA IV, Star Wars the force Unleashed, COD4/5 aaaand Assassin's Creed.

PSN does not suck it is exactly the same as x-box live only free the only reason people say it sucks is that there are less people with PS3's.

I would think that PS2 titles would work, but I can't give you my guarantee.

as for the hardline/wifi connection.... i use wifi and havnt had a single problem with it
as for games.... Valkyria Chronicles, inFamous, H.A.W.X, and get Battlefield 1943 from PSN cheap and fun multiplayer

Little Big Planet is good but so is Resistance 2 KillZone 2 is good but can get boring fast
Uncharted is a must get

I don't own a PS3, but I've heard a lot of good from the PSN original games, don't overlook them! I've found Flow to be quite entertaining, and many were impressed by Flower (although I wasn't one of those). Try them and you'll see if it suits you.

Next week I'm going to get a PS3 for my birthday since I really need a good console to play serious games that I'm craving to play.

Any games worth recomending to get? I'm planning to get a Blockbuster membership so I can rent any game and return it anytime so I can get several games a month and play each one for a reasonable amount of time.

And please keep in mind that I just don't want to hear the burned out multiplatform hits like CoD4 or Bioshock or Fallout 3. Some PS3 exclusives would be great to hear instead.

I'm planning to go rent Prototype as my first PS3 game to play, followed by Infamous and then I'll see what games I get after that.

my line up is:

silent hill: homecoming
MGS 4
ratchet and clank future

and

mirrors edge
bioshock
dead space
the orange box

all of these games are great and i suggest you get them

ratchet and clank is tons of fun and its A PS3 EXCLUSIVE!!! woo hoo
