I keep hearing the uncharted series is awesome so go for that I guess. I don't have a ps3, so my expertise is severely and extremely limited. I have also seen some of the crazy shit people build in Little Big Planet 2, so I guess you could try that. I saw an operating system built in that game. Seriously.

As it's the only game I've completed on the PS3 (the only other game I have is Heavy Rain and that was only a couple of days ago) I highly recommend getting Metal Gear Solid 4 especially if you've played the other Metal Gear games. The end boss is one of my highlights in gaming actually. Not for the particular way it was fought but for everything about it.

Please never ask for game recommendations without saying what type of games you like. My taste is not your taste and I'm not so selfish as to seek to impose it on you. If you like deep meaningful games I highly recommend heavy rain, alpha protocol, yakuza 3/4, mgs4, gtaiv, red dead redemption, fallout 3/nv, mass effect 2 and la noire. Alpha protocol particularly was under-rated and a really great game to just rent and complete. Some games that are bad are not fun to play. This you might regret buying and you'll have a lot of criticisms for it, but you don't regret playing it as it's redeemed by innovative and engaging narrative interactions despite it's flaws. For the highly rated ps3 exclusives I'll say uncharted is over-rated, but it's probably the most polished linear shooter. Infamous is hugely over-rated, but the sandbox super hero genre as a whole is a load of shallow puerile primitive rubbish so if your comparing to crackdown and prototype you might say infamous is decent. If you like that sort of mindless fun then I'm not your guy. I'll just say that midnight club los angeles and burnout paradise are the best racing games.

Demon's souls, God of War only 2 PS3 only games I can remember ATm I truly enjoyed.

But if you are looking for games in general try Oblivion, Blazblue or Marvel V Capacom 3 are the 2 best fighters of this generation IMO MvC3 being a the much simpler of the two. Oh and the Devil May Cry series is similar to God of War, and in my opinion has retained a better story, though God of War 1's story is damn near unbeatable.

Biggest reccomendation i have is, just get games you can play with RL friends online whatever it may be. You will probably have more fun with that than some of the better online games.

Don't buy it yet!!!!!!!

I've heard something about a new Slim ps3 coming out soon, so if i was you I would wait.
The slim version has already been done and has been out for almost 2 years now

Do you have any references to your claim?

he probably meant the new backwards compatible (among other improvements) PS3.
Well, there was a rumour that a new version of the Slim model would feature backwards compatibility, but I thought it was just that, a rumour. At least, that the last I've heard.

Anyway, as for OT: Even though most of my recommendations have already been mentioned, you really should get them:

Demon's Souls. My favourite game on the PS3, hands down. It might be unforgiving, but it's never unfair. Take your time, don't rush and it's one hell of a game. It's got some of the deepest combat mechanics I've ever seen, it's really, really well done. Also, the different areas of the games are beautiful, each in their own way.

Little Big Planet 1 + 2: Great platformers, cute as hell and the level creater tools are immensely powerful. You should see some of the levels, that have been crafted online, it's insane.

Killzone 2 + 3: Both are great, though if you're going for multiplayer, I'd recommend number 3. That's what I play mostly, anyway. The multiplayer really is great, it's well-designed, reasonably well balanced and some of the most fun I've had playing online, since BF1942 came out, back then. Also, the class system is really nice, though it doesn't allow for as much flexibility, as the second game did.

3D Dot Game Heroes: Now, I've never played the Zelda games, but I thought this game was fantastic. The style of the game is blocky, but you'll get used to it, it's really good-looking anyway. The adventure style, that the game features really is a lot of fun.

Ratchet and Clank Games: Some of the best platformers, I've ever played. The weapons are amazing, there's a lot of variety, some more useful than others, of course, but most are just plain fun to use. The humour is also great in the games. Definitely get them, if you like platformers as all.

Enslaved: Odyssey to the West: I'll throw this in, for good measure. It's fun and colourful, though it is a bit short. It's a platformer and if you can get it cheap, I'll recommend buying it.

Uncharted 1 + 2(and soon 3): Also really fun games. They're platformers(I think), with shooting parts thrown in. They have a fun cast, a nice story and generally plays very well, if you like these games. I highly recommend them, I had a lot of fun playing them.

That's all for me now, hope you can use some of the recommendations!

I'm really enjoying Killzone 3 MP at the moment. Thought the plot in campaign was dull, but tend to feel that about all FPSs at the moment (and am not that bothered). Visually it's stunning (and the score is excellent) and it has (IMO) hit a near perfect balance between arcade and strategy.

Resistance 3 is coming soon, too. Not sure when beta is available to EU PS+ subscribers; if not already then soon.

So I'm pretty sure I'm buying a PS3 this weekend and want to get at least one game. I want to get one of the exclusives because I already have an XBox 360. So my options that I'm trying to decide between are Uncharted, Metal Gear Solid 4, Resistance, Killzone 2, or if you can think of any others. I know I can't buy all of them or even two of them. So if I could only choose one exclusive for the PS3 which one would you recommend?
MGS4..see you in 4 months
Because that's how long it will take to sit through the cutscenes. Honestly I have yet to see a good PS3 exclusive. I guess God of War would be your best bet.

I don't really mean to rag on MGS4 but unless you are familiar with the story I don't think you will be able to get into it this late in the series.

I wouldn't if I were you, I've got one and it's becoming more and more clear how outdated the hardware is. I'm switching permanently to PC gaming soon.

Although if you insist, you can pick up InFamous 1 on the PSN store for £15. Metal Gear Solid 4 is pretty solid (lol) as long as you like the colour brown and can forgive the enormous cut-scenes. Resistance 1 is pretty fun with a story mode that I adored, its sequel is disappointing.
games thease dyas hardly utalise that kind of power anyway.....and lets face it, its pretty much all console ports

Don't get MGS4, it's a terrible game. Just download the first Metal Gear Solid from the playstation store.

Pick up the Uncharted, and inFamous games.

So many people getting ps3's lately. Was there a price drop or something?
Another question, your name "NoBlueFood; is it based on the George Carlin joke?

I would recommend trying the demos (I think there are demos for all those titles) but I would have to say that the one I was closest to keping was Uncharted 2. However, I would say Killzone 2 if you're more into online military shooters like COD.

Personally I would have to recommend my favorite ps3 exclusives (which are too often overlooked) like Warhawk (easily the best flight-combat sim for this gen; and has fun ground combat too that's seamlessly integrated).
You also have to download the demo for Valkyria Chronicles if you like shooters. It's mostly strategy but they work in shooter and rpg mechanics. I know, It sounds retarded but ends up being a nice cocktail with a beautiful style. Definitely try the demo.

For a PS3? Get a back up PS3 in case the first one bombs. Then get:

God of War 3, for bragging rights at least. Notably a few years late bragging rights but at least you can say "I got God of War 3"

Like Tron is funner to talk about than to actually see. :)

Well I'm really open to try anything. The only games I really don't like are RTS games because I suck at them.

No I just saw a pretty good deal on Craigslist so I thought I would pick it up. And actually my name is a reference to the George Carlin joke. Thanks for noticing.

Carlin at Carnegie is one of my all time favorite comedy specials. I think that's the one where he talks about the Blue Food. "Blue Food must bestow immortality."
Have fun with the good deal and try as many demos as you can. There are a ton of them and they're all free. I didn't even buy a game for the first couple of weeks I had a ps3.
