I'm not sure if this is a confirmed fact or revelation since i'm still trying to get my hands on the article I read it in, but apparently Bethesda are not only allowing you to have companions and develop friendship bonds, but Marriage is going to be an option in the upcoming Skyrim.

Does anyone have any thoughts on this? Agree with it, disagree? I think it will be quite interesting to see how Bethesda will pull it off, like if you can marry any NPC like in Fable or if there will be quests that allow you to gain political power through marriage etc.

Can anyone find an article to confirm this? I've read it in my monthly PSM3 Mag but can't seem to find it anywhere with official confirmation.

The thing I read didn't specifically say marriage. I saw something about it in a Q&A, I'll look for it.

Edit:
Oh, ok, it did specify marriage.
Will we be able to have relationships with the NPCs, romantic or otherwise?

Bruce: Absolutely! You make friends with people by doing things for them. Friends in the game will treat you differently. Some of them will even agree to go with you into dungeons and on adventures. You can even get married. If you own a house, your spouse will move in with you.
I've heard plenty of people whining about the concept, something about Fable I think (which I haven't played). I don't think it's a big deal though, just don't do it if you don't like it. It's just an extra element of realism for the hardcore roleplayers.
Or it could be a way to add more life to your house. I know my house was just a loot store and not some home base or anything.

I wouldn't mind them involving your family in the story, like Fable 2. However dragons plotting against your wife may be a little fat-fetched, maybe a side-quest of some sort.

It's a fan interview. Number seven.

As for the feature, I say great. Anything to add depth to the empty, boring shells that were Oblivion's NPC's.

I now pronounce you man/woman and copy pasted npc number 234.

I get the distinct impression it is going to be almost as bad as fable's option.

I'd be a bit more worried if i got married in game and my husband starts having an affair while i'm off killing dragons...

This presents two possiblities;

*It will add more depth to characters and allow for some interesting character development and interaction.

*It will be a tacked on feature that is useless and just adds some simple dialogue with no meaning.

Ho hum hah.

Bethesda has never been too crash hot when it comes to characterising characters. If they can't make having a conversation interesting, how can they pull off a believable marriage system?

No objections; it's not like it's gonna worsen my play experience. Seems like a strange thing to start doing though.

I'm hoping that's it's going to be a bit better then random NPC's, or it might be designated to a lot of characters who are integral to the story? I don't know, but with the radiant system I think it's going to be a good concept, hopefully good in practice as well.

But i wonder if you can do like they did in The Borgia's and marry for political power, Not that i would (since my conscience is a *****, even in games) but could you theoretically marry to leader of a town, kill them in stealth, then rule the town?

I might be over thinking it with that one, but it would add so much realism in the game it would be great.

That is unless, your spouse can be a useful distraction for town guards, dragons, and anyone stupid enough to carry cash on them when i'm in Cyrodiil.

You just know this is going to make the waifu modders utterly fucking ecstatic. Nice of you to do that for them Bethesda.

Honestly, I don't give a shit. As long as the game doesn't force it down my throat, we are fucking golden.
I will continue playing my game about fucking dragon shit up and people who like marrying things can do that.

And there was i thinking that the fable games had proved that relationships with random NPC's add absolutely sod all to the game, oh how i was wrong. Hey i know how they could improve it, they could make you go on fetch quests to become friends with them, oh wait.

However, if it were made that you could only enter relationships with a few NPC's with more character that a spoon, say take the Bioware option and rely on a few excellently characterised NPC's to do the majority of the work leaving the rest to point you in the direction off the pub and talk about mudcrabs. That may work, but honestly even if is worse implemented that fables system it's probably not a game breaker and be easily ignored.

Yeah that would be pretty cool, maybe one per town or so?
