I disliked Turn based combat long before I even knew about this site.

I haven't played a Turn Based Combat game in years, the last few I do remember though were Lord Of The Rings The Third Age, FFX and some turn based FF spin off. Just because someone doesn't like TBC doesn't mean they're trying to be like Yahtzee, and that also doesn't mean they haven't played a game with TBC.
If you have played Turn based combat games then you would know that most of your insults towards them are baseless. And I assume you are parroting Yahtzee because many arguments you use he uses too. ever since you came here to the escapist I have seen nothing but blind hate of JRPGs and turn based combat from you most of it being blind hatred.
Melee does not just mean close quarters fighting. It means a disorganized clusterfuck. Turn based does not give that. It may be fun, but it is not melee.

And Mystic Heroes had good melee gameplay.

I never said it did. at least I don't remember saying it did, I was getting annoyed at that guy for his bashing on turn based combat. Turn based is strategy. For melee I would say Monster Hunter. I would never call a turn based game melee.

Mount & Blade.

The greatest peasant stabbing sim ever.

"Die before my blade, peasant!"
The slashy horseback combat I love... The constant running into a nation's whole army, ending in a battle of 50 vs 1000, I do not. Maybe I should stop pillaging and looting their villages.

I wouldn't consider TBC melee combat myself. I say that if I don't have direct control over the character's actions, it's just a menu selection.

And it depends on the type of game. From an first person PoV, the Condemned games did it really well, which is to be expected seeing as the majority of combat is melee based. Third person, then you can't really go wrong with God of War. Theatrical, spectacular and oh so fun to perform.

That or Altered Beast. Shin kicking! Everything gets the kick.

I happen to quite like the combat in the Lord of the Rings: Return of the King game. It was simple, intuitive, and fun.

However, it suffered greatly from one of my most hated gaming pet-peeves. Is there any sword-based game that uses swords right? Swords go through people and cut bits off them, not go through them and drag some life-force away with it... I've never seen a sword game where you attack someone and bits of them fall off...

Just kill 950 of them, then it's 50 vs 50 and a lot easier to win.

As I say before charging into battle, Never defeated. Never.
I take an Ork attitude to winning.

So because Yahtzee and I have similiar opinions on TBC and JRPGS I obviously must want to be a parrot of him?

He classes Portal in his Top 5 games, I hate Portal.

Now, if someone could give an actual explanation as to why TBC makes Melee combat work, Instead of just calling me a Yahtzee and clone and that I have "no knowledge of TBC at all". Honestly now.
-sigh- I have to say it again eh? I never said turn based combat was melee. at least I don't remember saying it did, I was getting annoyed with you bashing on turn based combat. Turn based is strategy not melee.

and no I don't think you parrot all of his ideals hell you might not parrot him at all (though it sure looked like it) but you are following a stupid hate for something you know little about. just like Yahtzee and quite a few others (and while he maybe did not influence you he influenced a lot of people to hate on JRPGs for no good reason). Almost everything I have seen you say about turn based combat is untrue.

Turn based strategic battles.
Turn Based Combat is the way to completely fuck up melee combat.

Want melee? Shadow Of Rome.
Depends on the game, it would fuck up god of war to a game ruining level but with FF it works, it would work better if the status effects worked on the enemies who you need to use them on.

Shadow of Rome hurt my fingers, I had this weird thing were I would press the attack button harder in a vein attempt to make the attack quicker when I charged it up.

I think it depends on the game, if you have a game like Tekken you can't put turn based in 'cos it would take all excitement out of it.

Oh yes but the horror after you've taken those 950 down and then go down by an accidental lance to the face you didn't notice. I'd have an easier time if those damned bastards I was fighting didn't have horse archers. Hard to eliminate and annoying how they keep piddling down your health bit by bit in every battle.
