Getting raped is like getting a flat tire. Also, it's God's will. Fancy that.

Man, I should call up Blue Cross/Blue Shield and ask them if my little girl's health insurance covers rape. I wonder if Rep. DeGraff's insurance covers that.

And as an addendum, I don't like the "You voted for him so you can't complain" line. If I invite a friend to my house and he punches my wife, I'm going to say something fairly negative toward him.

So... can we get these obvious retards thrown out of office? There really needs to be a way to do that if enough people are against them.

@cyrogeist No, He's saying that rape is as inevitable as a flat tire. which is just as/even more stupid

To quote Epicurus...

Then he is not omnipotent.
Is he able, but not willing?
Then he is malevolent.
Is he both able and willing?
Then whence cometh evil?
Is he neither able nor willing?
Then why call him God?"

That kind of applies to all monotheistic religions. :x

This ignores the Doctrine of Free Will though. God has given Man the power to choose to the good or the evil; ie: he didn't create robots to blindly follow him because that would have defeated the purpose of creating them in the first place. It also ignores the fallen nature of Man, which would explain where evil comes from.

I don't want to start a religious war over this though (I'm a Roman Catholic btw).

Whatever, just wash your hands.
too bad they didnt say that before the election, thats how we got one of our best governors ever, her opponent said that "if a woman is raped she might as well lie there and enjoy it"

No offense, but where does "God's Will" figure into this? I read the article and I don't see where it mentioned that Getting raped is "God's will".

Can we stop the christianity bashing and just talk about how much of an idiot this guy is? You don't necessarily have to be a religious person to support/disapprove of abortion. I'm Catholic, and I'm pro stem cell research.

Anyways, back to the topic at hand, like I said, that guy is an idiot, a complete idiot, his comments were completely inappropriate, and it's a shame that more people are worried about "Weiner's Wiener" then the stuff this man is saying.
He suggested that God works in higher ways and listed an example of where rape lead to something "good". So, yeah, he called it God working in mysterious ways.

Brent Crane says that everything is part of God's plan, so getting raped is his will. It's in the article around the middle of it.

Giving man the choice to commit evil falls under 'He is not willing to prevent evil' Since...you know...he would have given permission to commit it by saying 'Do whatever.' (And thus not preventing it.)

Hell, I'm pro-life, and I think what this guy is saying is nuts.
Earlier this month, Kansas State Rep. Pete DeGraaf made some rather outlandish comments during a debate centered on banning insurance companies in Kansas from offering abortion coverage as part of their general health plans unless a woman's life were at risk.
And I also disagree with this bill. Sorry, but it is wrong to tell people they cannot offer a still legal service as part of a medical plan. My ethical views on the matter are notwistanding.

It's fucking bullshit is what it is. Never try and argue with logic against one of these assholes. They'll just say some crap about god moving in mysterious ways or some fucked up reason like that.

I just cannot understand how the concept of god even comes into this whole debate. It's got nothing to do with what a woman's choice of having a child or not. Hell, this should be a open and shut discussion with regards to a standard scenario, let alone in the case of rape or incest.
See my earlier post, and try not to take the views of some backwater fundamentalist and apply it to every Theist throughout history. That doesn't seem very "logical". Let's not turn this into a religious flame war as well.

Overdramatized.

This thread, that article, and rape in general. It's all over dramatized.

I wouldn't equate it with a spare tire, but I wouldn't equate it with a mind shattering life altering experience either.

Also the whole making abortions legally implausible(the actual issue of the article, not the shock jock attention grabber) is just going to end up with a lot of self abortions again, I can't wait for the backfire. I want to never understand the train of thought that these guys follow, but unfortunately I do understand it.

I'm not sure if I should blame the stupidity of that backwards ass state, the man himself for saying it or this country in general.

This is nothing short of disgusting. I may sound like a sexist here, but I think this has a lot to do with the male mentality. Not that he's an idiot because he's a man, but because he's never had to fear it. He's just an idiot but saying something that horrifying goes beyond simple stupidity.

Someone please kick him from office.

Also, on a lighter note; I love the writer of that article. :3

I don't rent my brain from the 'Smart-mart!', so I bothered to read the story, not comment on an obviously biased forum post.

Essentially, De Graaf suggests that insurance for events you cannot predict is a good idea, he makes the mistake of suggesting that, like a flat tire, rape is a random event, then some assholes decide that he's the next hitler and try to lynch him.

Sorry kids, I don't buy the 'but he's a man' excuse, women and men both have holes and they're all equally 'open' to being raped.

Wow. This is just sad. These are the kinds of people that give my country a bad name. I mean why on earth would you compare getting raped to getting a flat tire? Why would you say that?

He doesn't give permission to commit it; he gives the freedom to, but warns against it. The government does not make it physically impossible for you to rape someone, they say you should not, and have punishments as a result, but you still have the ability to choose whether or not you want to. That doesn't mean the government "gives permission to rape".

I'm not. By "these assholes", I'm talking about politicians who are stupid enough to bring in religion into their jobs.
Oh, sorry for misunderstanding it then.

...This man is no christian. He is barely even human.

I very nearly posted the above without reading the article. Then i read it and found... it's difficult to hate a guy who puts THAT LITTLE emotion in his statements. I still stand by what i said, however.

"The real unforgivable acts are committed by calm men in beautiful green silk rooms, who deal death wholesale, by the shipload, without lust, without anger, or desire, or any redeeming emotion to excuse them but cold fear of some pretended future.

But the crimes they hope to prevent in that future are imaginary. The ones they commit in the present - they are real."
? Lois McMaster Bujold (Shards of Honour)"

Tell me that's not correct. Try it.

Yeah, I heard about this shit. I'm going to say it first. This is what happens when the majority of lawmakers are men. Yeah, I know, that's simplistic. But I still think it's true. Very few men have ever felt the fear of being raped. I can't think of a single woman over 30 who hasn't at some point been terribly afraid of just this thing.

Flat tires just don't really strike that kind of fear into my heart. Unless it's a flat, in the middle of the night, on the highway. Then I'm afraid of what kind of man will stop by my vehicle as I change it, you know, and possibly rape me.

I hate that politicians are still finding new ways to horrify me with what they say.
It's what happens when most lawmakers are dumber than the mentally handicapped.

SERIOUSLY. Name me three politicians who've got a brain between them, and then tell me which one has an ounce of morality.
