This morning I listened to Slayer - Raining Blood when it came up on Random Shuffle on my ipod Nano. And I gotta say, it felt sad. I remember back when I first heard this song at 14 years old (in 2005) and thought it was one of the best songs we have ever had. Nowadays I almost never listen to the song. Why? Because every time I heard it all I can imagine is that retarded rattling of colored notes that so many posers have done to try and beat on it Expert and it makes me go "ugh, I can't listen to the song anymore it's been too burned". I'm sure this applies to other people who have had one of their favorite songs raped on Guitar Hero or Rock Band.

EDIT - Just to clarify what I'm saying, it's like people are praising and burning the songs not because they really like the music or found it to be their liking, but because it's on Guitar Hero/ Rock Band.

Not at all.
Why?
Because the songs that are being played bad aren't being played by the actual artists. And I recognize that.

Yeah, because everyone knows the quality of the music is entirely dependant on who listens to it and how...

While I have found a few good songs from playing GH or RB, I hate hearing " I can do [insert song] on [insert level] in [insert game]" whenever I show someone a song I think is good.

The music I listen to doesn't appear on Guitar Hero, and seldom on Rock Band as DLC.

I live for the day that "Rock Band: Coheed and Cambria" is released, however.

Though I don't think you are alone in this, I really have to disagree with every point you make. Whenever I come across a song I like in GH or RB, I immediately try to get it into my Itunes somehow. If one of my favorite songs is on it, I play it as often as possible. I think that, since I got it for Rock Band, I have played "A Favor House Atlantic" at least two-hundred times, no exaggeration.

I just don't see how a video game can ruin music for you. You like metal right? Well, I play Brutal Legend and am currently trying to beat it. Does that mean that every Metallica/Ozzy/Sabbath/etc. song on there will be ruined because I am attempting to %100 the game? By your logic, they will be.

Quite the opposite for me.

I didn't own an iPod or even have any kind of music player on my computer at all until I played the first Guitar Hero. So pretty much I didn't like music period until I started playing GH.

I don't mind it, but it bugs me more when the person acts like they know everything about that band based one that one song that happens to be in the game. A good way to sum this up...

Not at all. If anything, the opposite has happened, and games like RB and GH have shown me new music and artists that I may not have learned of, instead of turning me off of songs that I used to like.

Brutal Legend is a special case, that games seems more of an ode to metal and glorifies it so I'm ok with it. But with Guitar Hero and Rock Band's popularity there is often more annoying bragging about beating the song on the game rather than how good the actual song is.

I completely agree. I don't like listening to songs that I used to love, simply due to Guitar Hero and Rock Band.

I can beat BLANK on BLANK!

Well I can "beat" BLANK in real life on a real guitar instead of a fake, flimsy piece of plastic!

There are no Metallica songs in Brutal Legend, so by your logic, you're making stuff up.

Wtf?

"Retarded rattling?" "Posers?"

I'm more than a little confused.

Even though many of my favorite songs have been featured in video games where the listening experience was weakened by the sound of gunfire, for example, or the screams of pedestrians being run over, I still enjoy those songs.

So, you don't like listening to people talk about how good they are at the game because you think they don't like the song for the song, but instead, like it because its just difficult on GH/RB? Did I get that right?

GH and Rock Band have turned me on to many artists I would've never had any interest in or even heard of... I'm not talking about mainstream stuff or classic rock like Ozzy or Weezer, mostly indie bands and the like...

While that was the case w/ Guitar Hero 1 & 2, almost all of the music in these games are master tracks by the original artists now...

I wouldn't say they got "ruined" but I am a little tired of hearing songs like Down with the Sickness and Almost easy after everyone online wants to play them. After listening to the same song a hundred or so times, it just stops triggering the music part of my brain and just becomes background noise. Kind of sad, really.

That's not what I meant.
I don't care how you play the songs in the games, because they are games. No matter what, unless you get the song to be perfect, I won't consider it to be ruining the song, because, in my eyes, it won't be the same thing as if I had a track of it.

I really don't understand your point here... Are you trying to insult me? If so, why? What does this accomplish?

Yes something like that. For example my friends never even cared about Raining Blood or Through the Fire and Flames, or even liked those bands for that matter, until they got obsessed with GH 3. After that they always bring up the song every now and then, but only about how they're obsessed with beating the songs in the game.
