EDIT - Just to clarify what I'm saying, it's like people are praising and burning the songs not because they really like the music or found it to be their liking, but because it's on Guitar Hero/ Rock Band.
I still am slightly confused... Let me try to understand again. If you liked the song Flight of the Bumbleee, while I didn't, but I said (and this is the truth) that I could get an A ranking on Flight of the Bumblebee in Flash Flash Revolution, it would ruin the song for you?

So, you don't like listening to people talk about how good they are at the game because you think they don't like the song for the song, but instead, like it because its just difficult on GH/RB? Did I get that right?
Yes something like that. For example my friends never even cared about Raining Blood or Through the Fire and Flames, or even liked those bands for that matter, until they got obsessed with GH 3. After that they always bring up the song every now and then, but only about how they're obsessed with beating the songs in the game.
Bah, this seems like more of a pet peeve for you than anything. I don't mind hearing the song outside of the game, even though I hear a lot of people say things like your friends. I suppose I can agree with you to an extent. I do feel like (as a user posted above) that one XKCD comic is true to many kids.
As for me, I'll stick with the music I like as it isn't terribly mainstream and would rarely be put in a GH/RB game. I can think of no one, apart from myself, who wants to jam to Hawthorne Heights' "Ohio is for Lovers" on a video game.

My roommate just brought up a very good point. Another reason you dislike these songs is that they have become overplayed on the radio. You used to have to look long and hard for a radio station that would play Slayer and the like. I can find that, as well as stuff like Devil Wears Prada on the radio much more often now that it has been released on Rock Band.
Maybe its just the feeling of, that band you like that nobody had heard of has now become mainstream, and you hate it.
