Music gets overexposed all the time on radio and music tv, it's not surprising than the same thing should happen to songs on music games. That said, I don't think it's likely to happen much in future because of there are thousands of songs in all of the various GH/RB games so they're much less prone to overexposure than songs for the first three Guitar Heroes when there was only a handful available.

All controllers are "flimsy plastic toys". Is someone who "thinks they are sweet" at a FPS a poser? RTS? RPG?
I'm saying that the title of the thread says "GH/RB" not FPS, RTS or RPG. Therefore, I am strictly talking about GH/RB. And I say that about the controller because it is a lousy excuse for a guitar.

Well I can "beat" BLANK in real life on a real guitar instead of a fake, flimsy piece of plastic!
Yes, I am well aware that it is worse to brag about playing Guitar Hero on a high difficulty than it is to say you can play it on a real guitar.

And as for what I snipped, that is a bad attitude to have. If you want to experience playing guitar, then you should try to learn it. Learning to play a musical instrument is an awesome thing, there's nothing else like it. When you play a song, you really feel like you've accomplished something. It's a sad day when people would rather fake it in a game.

Being a guitarist, I find that RB/GH ruined my music not because I now see flashing coloured lights or because it's a horrible concept or I think people should learn how to play real instruments, but because of what it did to song selections.

Whereas before I would either never get requests, or would get requests for some pretty good songs that people might like to hear, now it's a stream of "Hey, can you play Raining Blood? Can you play Cliffs of Dover? Can you play One?"

I'm a blues/rock guitarist, not a metal guitarist, and for another thing, I'm holding a motherfucking acoustic and I don't have a full band backing me! (I have heard these sorts of requests a LOT!)

So yeah, people who seem at first to be knowledgable about the type of music I like, and then turn out to be just reeling off GH tracks.

So you're saying that the music is the whole point of Brutal Legend, but not of Guitar Hero/Rock Band? The clue's in the fucking titles...
No, that is most certainly not what I am saying, and I really don't know where you're pulling this from.

I'm saying that the thread is about Guitar Hero and Rock Band, not Brutal Legend. I also talked about how Brutal Legend is an excellent game that incorporated the feel of metal into an artistic vision. They release a new Guitar Hero/ Rock Band/ Band Hero every day of the week it seems like, and I said that they were casual games that a lot of people own (alot of which are non-gamers).

But I never said anything even closely related to music not being a part of GH/RB.

Okay, I don't think I understand your point. If it is that other people who typically wouldn't listen to your song played it on guitar hero and now listen to it are ruining your song, then I would call you a pretentious ass. You music getting out to an audience that previously wasn't there isn't bad. In fact, it's great for the artists. more people are likely to buy or look into the rest of their music.

It's like saying Cage the Elephants, "There ain't no rest for the wicked", being on the Borderlands commercial somehow ruined the song. It's just a ridiculous statement to make.

Now, if your statement is that people who pretend they know everything about a band because they beat there song on guitar hero are annoying, then I completely agree. Guitar Hero/Rock Band can be an amazing gateway to get introduced to some great bands, but if you don't go further than playing it on guitar hero you should not assume you know anything about the band.

Oh, and bragging about your guitar hero skills is just dumb if not in the right context(IE. you are having a conversation about everyone's guitar hero skills or of guitar hero in general)

Never was exposed to any of the music I listened to on GH, notable because it coincided with my budding interest in music. However fucking ruined Bulls on Parade for me

I'm a student in college. I'm broke. I don't have enough money. I have guitar hero from before I got to college, I play it because its what I have to play. I don't have the money to play, or learn to play, the guitar. Sure, I'd love to learn to play, but not many people have the money or the time. It is definitely not a good investment for me, therefore, I'll stick with my game. It's not sad that I choose to "fake it in a game", it's what I'm stuck with.

Also, I really feel like I accomplished something when I complete a difficult song on Guitar Hero or Rock Band. It is difficult to play these games and is a big accomplishment when one can beat the songs on them.

Twisting my words. I said that you bragging about being able to play a song on real guitar is just as bad as the people that you are complaining about in the first place.

My point is that the rhythm game genre is being unfairly singled out by this thread. Other games have music too, why is it not okay to have a game in which the music and gameplay coincide?

So far all I have seen from the people who think that "GH and RB is ruining music" is experiences with very stupid people. How can you blame the games for people's stupidity? That's as foolish as blaming Quake or Doom for some nutcase going on a killing spree.

With me, it a bit of column A and a bit of column C (column B was rented out before I got here.) With some of the covers on GH I and II, it did kind of ruin some songs for me. Perfect example for me: Franz Ferdinand's 'Take Me Out' on GH or "In The Sunshine Of Your Love", originally by Cream that's covered in GH III. I like the original versions, but I could think of some painful things I'd do to myself before I'd WANT to play/listen to the GH versions again.

But as a counterbalance, the games HAVE helped me broaden my horizons by giving me songs by bands I never would have thought of, namely Die Toten Hosen, Muse, and Dream Theater (I have a strange and arcing taste in music).

But what does piss me off is when people suddenly become huge fans of a band because they played one of there songs on GH/RB, then try to act like they know everything about them.

I just hate when i listen to a song that i am generally a fan of, and some kid says "I love that song, it was on Guitar Hero!". It makes me die inside.
I agree, I have experienced these first hand.

Well, our argument isn't getting anywhere, but let it be know that I was not twisting your words at all. Refer back to your post, you say that saying "I beat BLANK on BLANK" is almost as bad if not worse than saying you beat it on a real guitar. Meaning that you said bragging about a game is worse than bragging about real music. And it's true and I agree with it.

This morning I listened to Slayer - Raining Blood when it came up on Random Shuffle on my ipod Nano. And I gotta say, it felt sad. I remember back when I first heard this song at 14 years old (in 2005) and thought it was one of the best songs we have ever had. Nowadays I almost never listen to the song. Why? Because every time I heard it all I can imagine is that retarded rattling of colored notes that so many posers have done to try and beat on it Expert and it makes me go "ugh, I can't listen to the song anymore it's been too burned". I'm sure this applies to other people who have had one of their favorite songs raped on Guitar Hero or Rock Band.quote]

What's with all the people who hate RB & GH because it "ruined" their songs? Is this the new cool thing to hate? (sorry Halo) I was actually introduced to new music because of the first time I played GH 2. I think my iPod would be at least a hundered songs shorter w/o it.

Actually, I can think of more than a few songs that I added to my iPod after hearing them on Guitar Hero or Rock Band. I would say that it actually expanded my music tastes quite a bit, really...
