Not sure how much sense this will make, but here goes nothing.

Although I've never seen a ghost or anything I believe that spirits, ghosts, and other traces of energy may exist. I think that some places might be more active than others, i.e. "haunted".

I suppose I think of the "spirit world" as a parallel plane of existence of sorts that overlaps with ours in some places and through some people, kind of like a big Venn Diagram. Although I think that most psychics are quacks but I do believe that some people are more attuned or sensitive to the wavelengths of this parallel plane.

That doesn't make any sense in the slightest. I know it's from a book'o facts, but the population of all the people who died only 100 years ago wouldn't be so incredibly different from today. Plus, people had more children in, say, the Victorian days than today. Most of them died before they hit double-figures, so they kept making a fresh batch.

Anyway, back on topic, I don't believe in anything 'paranormal'. While I'm no representative of the entire world here, ever single person I know who has claimed to seen a ghost or something paranormal was either really young at the time of the event (so often mistaken or misinterpreted), would not accept established fact, or was attention-seeking.

I'm pretty much a "SCIENCE!" type guy.

Yeah, that happened to me few times. But I've had more vuja-des :D
The feeling I have never done this before.
So you didn't watch George Carlin acts? He said it in more impressive way :/
Your post reminded me more of Epicine from the Karma Inquisition/Lan Tarryk Kozar. During one of the songs he says
"Ok, I'm getting deja vu right now. No, wait! It's vuja de! The feeling I have never done this before."
Yeah, Carlin said it in similar fashion. Oh well, it doesn't matter who said it first anyway :p

I'm not going to slap you for implying Carlin said it first. :p
He probably did.

I believe in ghosts...sort of. I have had experiences. Including one particular feeling I can only describe as being possessed. It was a curious experience.
Could you share more with us? Unlike most of the people here, I don't rule anything out from the reality as we know it.

I think ghosts are the only paranormal thing we will never ever prove(I consider aliens or UFOs to be paranormal just not supernatural). We could find a body of Bigfoot or any other cryptozoological animal, aliens could make contact, a psychic could do something amazing in front of the masses, but a ghost... It's just not tangible enough and has to much base in religion and spirituality.

Ghosts were the one thing in the paranormal world I did not believe in until i had an actual experience with a friend of mine. I would have written it off as a momentary lapse of insanity if it wasn't for her seeing and hearing the same thing.

Not to dodge the question or anything, but I find it amazing how many people I know that don't believe in god but believe in ghosts. That could be a point of discussion in itself.

I remember muttering the words 'Ich schenk dir mein leiben', or something like that, which means 'I offer you my life'. It was part of a song I was listening to. Then, all of a sudden, I felt like I'd been punched in the chest, and a curious tingle started in the centre of my ribs. Not the heart. Just the centre. It then spread out to my limbs, and when it reached my head, it manifested itself as a maniacal laugh. I just couldn't stop. Then I'd laughed enough, and the feeling left, and I felt so tired.

I have been doing a piece of science course work about the human mind, and during it we had to look at an 'opinion' and see what kind of people would have it, so i went with the idea of the paranormal, and want to know if anyone on the escapist has opinions (which i know you all will) on the existence of ghosts and other paranormal phenomena, though i am discounting UFO's as they come under extraterrestrial life, and not the paranormal.
I shall get the ball rolling, i believe in ghosts and poltergeists, but not in the religious view of them, and how they are souls, i think they are merely left over energy, possible contained or compact, or just the same strand of a life repeating over and over. Not anything mystical and godly.
Exactly what i believe...left over energy...nothing stupid like life force, or a soul...just simple left over energy from a living being that has nothing to be converted to and so hangs about in limbo...no conciousness or intentions...just plain old randomly acting energy

I totally believe in ghosts. My bedroom is haunted. You just get the sense of some kind of evil present in there. Its really wierd and quite distrubing. One time, i felt a hand come from beneath my bed and try and grab my leg. that was really scary. I've also had dreams of the devil and stuff. Also my own death quite a few times.
Sometimes, i can see vague images of faces coming out of the posters on the walls and i can hear voices in there too. Its really disturbing

Also, i have had massive experience with this leftover energy, which sometimes contradicts my point of view. Due to my experiences i am forced to believe there can be a certain level of conciousness to this energy...but no real sense of actual life...as in if you managed to examine it there would be no signs it was ever part of a living thing...it is just general and simple kinetic, electrical, and heat (or lack of) heat energy. My experiences have included being haunted as in seriously and my girlfriend was possessed for a while...and i have been spoken to (or my mind has been tricked into think i have been) by what i decribe as an advanced form of this energy

Ugh... I believe in the possibility of ghosts. There is some strange stuff out there but nothing that's enough to convince me 100% either way.

I'll believe in gods and ghosts when I see them...
Although my mother has claimed to see ghosts and she's an atheistic and down-to-Earth person.

I believe in ghosts, my nan apparently saw my dead grandad in the bath once and my mom thought she saw my dead uncle in the corner of her eye when we cleared out his house afterwards. She was in the garden at the time trimming the hedge (he hadn't live there for ages but had a lot of stuff left there that needed sorting). When she looked back she noticed she'd almost cut through the wire and given herself an electric shock from the electric trimmer, I still think to this day it was my uncle (her older brother) warning her in time.

I've never seen a ghost myself, though I would love to see my grandad or uncle again at some point. I also believe in spiritualism, not the fake stuff like they did in Victorian times though. I've been to spiritualist churches before and my mom was told stuff that she didn't know about aunts and uncles she didn't know existed. When she spoke to my nan later in the week she confirmed everything said was true. There's no way a spiritualist could have known that unless they had some sort of gift. Also, a friend of my nan who died last year used to read people's fortunes and had a small psychic gift, she predicted my mom would marry someone who fit my dad's description years before my mom and dad ever met, as well as other stuff. Not every prediction has come true, but most have.

How does believing in ghosts as left over energy make more sense than a so called "soul"?

Serious question btw. the very definition of a ghost would be a soul, wouldn't it? How can you possibly call it energy?

I don't understand. Explain plz. If you believe in ghosts, then you automatically believe in souls. That's the only way I see it.
This is where people get confused lol. Well basically, i do not believe in any God or anything really spiritual, so i do not believe in the soul. However, think aboot it-in any living thing there is an abundance of different kinds of energy-kinetic (movement), heat, electrical, potential, and even some gravitational. All this energy is in constant change, being transformed second by second. Now energy is just our way of explaining how certain protiens are used by us to be able to do things, but nevertheless it exists at leats in our working. So, all this energy has to go somewhere-whe na human dies, all the kinetic and electrical energy has to be transformed into something else cause energy cannot be destroyed. My theory is that it is this energy-it is transformed into a kind of "stem cell energy" state, where over time it slowly becomes kinetic for the atoms i nthe stmosphere etc, but that while it exists as "stem cell energy" it just hangs between atoms...due to my experience i also believe that there is an advanced form of it that can gain some semblance of conciousness or purpose.

Hope i have helped :)

I remember the hand. When i was young i used to get a hand come up behind me and ruffle my hair, trying to grab me. Shit me up. And i used to walk out of my room, and suddenly not be able to move forward for a coupla seconds, as if my room is its dominion and it dosnt want me to leave. I have not slept with lights off for like 3 years, and try my hardest to stay awake untill i am litterally dropping off, otherwise there is that period where ur layin there and not thinkin of much, so the littlest thing affects you. I also try to stay other places as much as possible.

EDIT: dosn't help that my best friend's house is also haunted
