It seems like they come out with a new Armored Core title every few years. They are usually pretty good, but they are for consoles.
I am actually playin' Armored Core for answer and I really like it, if you're feelin up to big robots that one is pretty good

also

I'm hoping for zone of enders 3

but then again if you are a pc gamer, it gets harder I think

god yes i really hope some developer will pick up Z.O.E again, Z.O.E 2 is one of my personnel best games ever

Giant robot games are joystick games. People don't have joysticks because they don't buy joysticks because there's hardly any joystick games out there because developers don't do them because there's hardly any consumers with joysticks.

You could play with the mouse, but that's like playing fly sims/racing games with a keyboard.

In all fairness, I've found the mouse + keyboard to be a somewhat superior setting due to the mouse being more accurate than the Joystick...

Uhm, maybe its a bit off-beat but how about White Knight Chronicles?

I love me some Escaflowne mechs.
Main reason I prefer the movie over the series, they actually get down to business properly.

Yeah, like I said, 'tis off-beat, in many ways.

Its sad to see the western branch of mech dissappearing. Mechwarrior/commander and games like Cyberstorm are all but completely gone.

Ah, they'll be back. But not if they put out series with inane titles like 'Linebarrels'. That shit makes Wii look like an ordinary choice. Linebarrels? Really? Just stripe me a vat of nuclear waste and lets roll!

Teknoman, *snf, that brings back memories.
That ending is still awesome.

I feel like playing some GW: Endless Duel now.
Get my Tallgeese and Noin (she pilots Mercurius in the game, woohoo!) fanboy on. Love that girl's dubbed voice in the anime.

They really should make another Chromehounds game.

It was good fun back in the first summer of the 360, getting your big stompy robot on and shooting the crap out of fools online.

A bit of rebalancing so that scout rushes aren't so monstrously effective, and that the best builds aren't missile cheese, or missile countermeasures are effective, and it will all be good.

You know what game series should be revived? http://robyrt.coolserver.net/omf2097.html

One must Fall was giant robot games at it's best: you could upgrade, customize, and then fight your way through any number of tourneys against the computer (that actually had decent AI) or against a friend. Battlegrounds was okay, but i think they screwed up and lost a lot of money. They should release a browser game of the old OMF along with online versus or leaderboards: it'd be great fun.

For me, giant robot games aren't really dead, because I only really care about one series of mecha games: Front Mission. Armored Core used to be fun, but now I'm all for Front Mission. And I haven't been let down: Front Mission 5 (which IS translated but not released out on English shores) and Front Mission Border of Madness 2089 keep me satisfied in the mecha department.

Playing Mechwarrior 4 Mercs as we speak(on a quad core with a gtx 280,you have to laugh at the overkill of the machine for the game:) and was thinking the same thing myself, the Mechwarrior games kicked ass,I want a new one too...optimised for all our shiny new hardware they would rock.

The last installments of the Mechwarrior franchise were Mechassault and Mechassault 2: Lone wolf, to the best of my knowledge. Mechassault I played and found to be extremely dull. Gone were the days of tweaking and building mechs, picking weapons load-outs and hoping you'd made the right choices. Gone was any sort of tactical choice in mech selection. You simply went into the mission with the biggest available mech. I didn't even bother with Mechassault 2 after 1 disappointed me so badly.

Armored Core 4 is the last one I tried (got the demo), but the Demo failed to wow me at all. I just couldn't like the control scheme (why is a common button like Y bound to something that has no apparent use? Sure, you move fast with the overboost, but you drain all further boosts and you HOLD STILL while charging). The demo went from easy fight, to easy fight, to ridiculously irritating fight that I just decided to drop the demo and walk away. As a final injury, I found that all the weapons were incredibly unsatisfying (you barely noticed some of them firing), and bound to flat-out WEIRD controls.

Chromehounds, from the same people that did Armored Core 4 is a much 'slower' mech game: these things don't inexplicably take to the sky, fly, and leap around: they stomp all over everything in a satisfying way, and the weapons feel mighty. I really like Chromehounds, and give it a recommendation.
