Gin was my first real drink of alcohol after beer. I love Gin and Tonic. Most of my coworkers and friends give me a hard time about drinking it, but they have never been able to drink one themselves. I don't care if they consider it a girly drink or not. I like it and that's all I care about. :D

I've become a mead man myself. But yes Gin is a rather manly beverage and a gin and tonic is also a handy remedy for malaria or so im told.
thats because tonic contains quinine [or howvr thats spelled] which is what they give you for malaria. infact, people can get sick drinking tonic too much, becaus they can atualyl develop an allergy to the quinine in it.

I used to see it as a girly-man drink,until I looked into it.
James Bond is all man.
James Bond drinks martinis
1 of the ingredients of a martini is gin
ergo:gin is 1 of the manliest drinks.

Pfft... If it isnt at the absolute barest min 100 proof, its pretty feminine. Style is basically irrelevant, proof is well, the proof.

150-190 proof is just right. 199 is golden... if you can get it.

I'm a vodka fan myself but I normally don't assign gender associations to inanimate alcohols.

Keep in mind I enjoy vodka the most when it's in a tasty white russian, I also enjoy fruity drinks with umbrellas in them, and being a 'manly man' means nothing to me, nor should it to anyone, really.

gin is only second to scotch in terms of manliness.
Nah the drinks order of "manliness" goes something like:

Whiskey
Vodka
Tequila
Beer
Gin
Brandy
Wine
MLP;FiM
Sherry
I don't know about you but them pony drinks seem like they could knock people on their ass, I have a chart and everything.

By your definition ponies are about as manly as Vodka, and that sir is quite manly.

Hmmm. In America gin and tonic is considered a "classy" drink to the lower and middle classes. Of course, the upper-middle class and nouveau riche know the truly "classy" drink is a good scotch and water. That's clearly all nonsense and the actual "old money"/upper class just drink whatever they feel like. I think the idea that gin is a "classy" drink probably came from the prominence of gin in England. And to ears of many Americans someone speaking with an English accent automatically=class. Snoop Dog reportedly likes gin as well.

My guess about the Scotsmen is that they consider gin to be the drink of the English and every good Scotsman knows that the English are a load of yellow-bellied pansies.

But if you're in America, gin is just a poor man's aged scotch. And scotch is a poor man's way to try to buy class.

Beer = Manly
Whiskey = Super manly
Martini = Opposite of Whiskey
Gin = Can't say(never seen anyone drink it) but probably infinitely more manly than a martini

gin is actually quite hardcore i can't drink it.

i'll stick to my rum.

however (possibly for this very reason) it is also synonymous with middle aged
housewifes wearing too much make-up and crying, sat in a flight of stairs.
This is what springs to mind when I think of Gin also. That and how horrible it tastes.

That's how it should look. Gin should be considered more manly tho, hell any drink hat has a histroy of making ppl insane should have a better rating, just don't know anyone that drinks it.

So I'm in Taiwan for a bit of work and I've been hanging out with some Scottish visitors. At some point, we started talking about preferred drinks with most of them voting for some mix of vodka. My immediate reaction to the word "Vodka" was blatant disgust and then I told them that I prefer Gin and Tonic or just straight Gin if I was having a bad day.

They told me two things about my preferred alcohol. 1) Gin is a rich/cultured man's liquor 2) Gin is also a girly man's liquor.

Is this a scottish mentality or is Gin generally looked at this way? What are your thoughts on the possible girliness of gin?
The guys i work w/ building roads would totally disagree. in no way is this a bit rasicist, me? white guy who drank gin and tonics his whole life..lol i blame douglas adams, but not really, i just loved his books.......and i'm one of 2 white guys of a crew of 14 guys, other are black....and for fuck sake if someone made that statement around them they'd get their ass kicked....what can i say, i'm surrounded by people who like gin, lol and knives

Wondering if something is or isn't manly, in and of itself, is not manly. Manly men don't think about that kind of crap, it is beneath them.

Gin and Tonic is delicious! So no in my opinion Gin is not girly. I think as long as it gets you drunk and you enjoy the taste of what you are drinking then WOOHOO PARTY!! I ascribe to the thought of "I'll do what I want. You do what you want and everyone is happy!" works well for me in these kind of situations.

Whaaaaa?? Not true at all. Coming from a bartender/regular drinker, I can tell you that Vodka is at the very bottom. Vodka is meant to be tasteless and mixes with ANYTHING, therefor, not very manly. Tequila is, straight up (no pun intended), a shot that girls drink. Gin is much more "manly" than either of the two. Also, some digestives will knock your taste buds into tomorrow and leave you with a strong burn. What about grappa? What about rum (not manly)? Also, sherry's a wine.

Gin and tonic is sometimes perceived as a girly drink, but frankly I know a lot of guys, myself included, who drink it. Gin alone, no way, although scotch would probably earn you more favour among the Scots :)

Personally, I find most designations of "girly" drinks silly. I get it if it's some kind of pink drink or something, but Bailey's and other liqueurs being girly? Fuck off, I'm drinking it anyway, tastes good, has a kick, what do I give a shit.
