There are some around you just have to look hard enough, where I live I've seen a few of them I'm friends with some but I'd never think of actually dating them. I think this has to do with me being socially competent once I actually talk to someone but the one thing I always saw with girl gamers is that we are too similar. This might be hard to understand but if you and your boyfriend/girlfriend are too similar it usually doesn't go that far and dates usually devolve into just hanging out.

To sum up they are out there as rare as they are, but you might not be as satisfied as you think once you find one.

...Perhaps you could be a bit more open minded and settle for Boy Gamers if you can't find any Female ones?

To those who are saying that games are the last "thing women haven't taken from US" you are terribly wrong. Gaming is for anyone regardless of their Gender, race, culture, skin color, etc.

Hey, this is my first real thread start, so I figured I'd go for the gusto. I live in a smallish town in Midwestern America and there are no girl gamers around here that I can find. Yes, I know this sounds like I'm asking for a handout, but honestly, girl gamers in my eyes are few and far between. Sure, I know they exist, but it makes me sad that they don't exist anywhere near / around myself. And personally, I think if a girl can destroy me in my favorite video game, that's one of the things I find most attractive in a girl. I guess I'm really just ranting here, but I have to say it: Dear Lord, please make more girl gamers, I really would like a TF:2 or CS:S partner, haha.

Signed,
Forlorn Gamer.

P.S.: No I'm not using this as a dating service, I just wanted to vent a little.
I think your strategy is ass-about. You need to get to know girls first, and then worry about their preferences later. If you go to a garage sale looking for something specific, you'll never find it because things come in so many configurations - just like people. However, if you go with an open mind just to check out what's out there, you can find some really cool stuff. If you're defining a girl's attractiveness by how she spends her leisure time when she's on her own, that's a concern. I think your real problem is that you're not getting out more, if you want to meet people you actually need to meet people.

I'm a girl. I game. Am I a 'girl gamer'?

Well I don't yell into the mic for attention.

I also don't draw attention to my gender for no reason.

Try joining engineering department when you go to college.
80% of the girls in my faculty are gamers.

The downside is also that they are much less pretty compared to them humanity girls across the campus.

Look I honestly agree. I think the day we become a steriotype is the day we become shit.
You don't go out there and itroduce yourself, hello I'm Joan Doe, I'm a girl gamer. Just as I don't go out there and do the same.

Besides, find the right girl and get to meet her, she doesn't need to play games for her to be a nice girl. She has to have other qualities, not specific preferences.

Every time I've encountered a player in CoD that happened to be a female she was harassed by some of the assholes on the other team and she ended up destroying them. It was fantastic. After a while I suggested we just mute them or change lobbies and we played together for a while tearing it up.
But this much is true: Whenever I see that there's a player that's obviously female I do feel an urge, slight as it is, to attempt in some way to flirt with them. That's just how males operate I guess. Especially, for me at least, that it is a member of the opposite sex that shares interest in an activity like videogames. Finally, someone I can talk to and discuss how amazing games like Shadow of the Colossus and Twilight Princess are! How sad it is when a game comes out that has a rushed story that didn't have fleshed out characters etc.
I don't though. I try to be as civil and aloof as possible. Makes me feel lonely.

I've met a fair few girls playing WoW. You'd be surprised. If you get into a guild where you start getting to know everyone pretty well, you can end up on mics during a raid or just goofing off in skype and - poof! One or more people you're speaking to is actually a girl. Came as a bit of a surprise to me at first, particularly as some of the girls in the guild i was in used male avatars. They're out there, it's just...

This. They don't necessarily draw attention to themselves, either by choice or by circumstance. There's really nothing to gain by announcing your gender while you're gaming, so people keep it to themselves unless asked personally.

I'm a girl who games and I'm from the middle of nowhere in New York state. But I have a penchant for playing single player as opposed to multiplayer so I'm off most people's radars. I also don't play much doing the college school year because of need to maintain grades for scholarships so that doesn't help either.

edit: I forgot to mention that when I do play online multiplayer it's either A) random on TF2 and I don't use the mic or B) with my friends. These are just my preferences- much like other gamers despite gender :p

Here's how i look at it:

There are no girls on the internet. There are also no boys. There are only usernames. (This is in part because i don't use voice chat, and i started forming this opinion when i was still afraid of girls)

Don't care if you're a boy or a girl, my space marines are still going to purge your Xeno abominations from the face of Typhon. =P

...

What did you call the Eclipse Hounds?! oh that's it, FOR THE EMPEROR!!!
