Hey, this is my first real thread start, so I figured I'd go for the gusto. I live in a smallish town in Midwestern America and there are no girl gamers around here that I can find. Yes, I know this sounds like I'm asking for a handout, but honestly, girl gamers in my eyes are few and far between. Sure, I know they exist, but it makes me sad that they don't exist anywhere near / around myself. And personally, I think if a girl can destroy me in my favorite video game, that's one of the things I find most attractive in a girl. I guess I'm really just ranting here, but I have to say it: Dear Lord, please make more girl gamers, I really would like a TF:2 or CS:S partner, haha.

Signed,
Forlorn Gamer.

P.S.: No I'm not using this as a dating service, I just wanted to vent a little.
they exist, but I think a kinda rare however for a while I thourght I was some kind of weird freak of nature for abeing a girl and REALLY into games, and I felt kinda dirty after playing a violent game...like I was conditioned to belive it was "wrong"

that said I have heard of this "GURL GAMER" steroytype where they milk for all the attention they can get or what ever

which is a shame because I dont want people assumuing I do it for attention, Ive been into games the second I saw my cousisns SNES, only up untill relitivley recently Ive been able to really feed my gaming appetite (and it turns out I was a PC gamer all along)

anyway for this reaosn I never bring up my gender unless its relevant...like now

Gaming and standing while peeing are the few things men still have. Hope it stays like that forever. Girls can play Farmville and Sims. Boys play Counterstrike and Halo. Men play Starcraft.

/edit: In all seriousness, when I play my competetive games, my opponents are my buddies. Don't want any sexual stuff in my games. And girls create that.
ha..your joking right?

When I play online with my 360, I use my fiance's account. I also don't mic. Everyone else in the party is none the wiser, in the end.

Then I play quite a few MMOs/MMORPGs. Girls seem to play these a hell of a lot, even if I know half of the female avatars are posing as men to extort things from other men (usually with immense success!), and the other half are usually actually girls with very low self-esteem that live vicariously through their vastly more attractive avatars. I guess men use the same kind of escapism, but oh well.

You know, I remember when female gamers (yuck, that term) were a mythical thing. I was seven, pages with images took a whole 2 - 3 minutes to load and there was that three-minute-long connection mantra that would get fucked over if anyone attempted to make a phone call. It's really only since the widespread use of the internet that we know that a huge chunk of the audience is female.

TL;DR Version: There are tons of them. But they are spread out. I often wish I had other girls I could talk about these things with in person, or at least female friends who are willing to give it a shot. If I have to watch Twilight, pretend to be interested in "The Notebook", and at least try to appreciate all of the crap they're into because they say it's me "making an effort" to see where they're coming from, I think it should be reciprocated.
oh god yes

I spent 3 years in Prison boarding school surrounded by the notebook and twilight and transformers and chicks flicks and step up and high school musical and you knwo that movie with britaney spears? "crossroads?" blaaaagghhhhhhh

anyway I think It actually drove me alittle mad how everyone liked this stuff (awww he's soo hawt!), I mean fair enough they like it but as a geek (or a closeted geek at the time, my only outlet being movies) It drove me insane

I mean "the notebook sadest movie ever"? hey I got one for you its called Requiem for a dream then you will KNOW what sadness is hahahahaha...

and video games?...might as well have been some alien element from mars

ok derailed there, Im not blaming other people for liking stuff, but its just the inner nerd raging

anyway Im not fond of MMO's, because I dont like the Idea of living through an avatar, and while I did in the past I dont have self essteem issues (but then again if you think about it thats a very vauge term to put on females as EVERY female has some sort of issue with herself)

I play starcraft 2 ^^ (protoss player). I'm almost to silver league (rank 5 bronze in my division) and I love watching tournaments and starcraft 2 commentary every night (especially Day9 and Totalbiscuit). I had one guy moan and complain about losing to a girl. haha, my name on there is kittenwaltz and I use the portrait of the news lady so it's pretty obvious that I'm a girl player. (I'm always up for practice matches vs similar level players, send email if want to exchange sc2 friend codes -I'm on NA server)

I'm a huge survival horror fangirl (rule of rose, silent hill 2, and fatal frame series are my fave). I used to be huge into jrpgs and I own like 10 consoles (well they are all back in the states cause im teaching in Korea now) I used to play mmo's like Nexus:kingdom of winds, ff11, and ragnarok, never really tried wow. I also enjoy anime (I look a lot like my avatar)

I've met a fair few girls playing WoW. You'd be surprised. If you get into a guild where you start getting to know everyone pretty well, you can end up on mics during a raid or just goofing off in skype and - poof! One or more people you're speaking to is actually a girl. Came as a bit of a surprise to me at first, particularly as some of the girls in the guild i was in used male avatars. They're out there, it's just...
Funny how that works. I guess I'm pretty girly (or at least not macho) as far as a guy goes, so most people tend to assume that I'm a girl. And you know what sucks? I actually have pretty high voice too.
I have gone for weeks in some games with some people, even after hearing me on the mic, still is not convinced that I'm a guy.
I guess playing femTroll/Tauren/Dwarve really doesn't help my case either, since most guys avoid those classes like the plague. But hey, a guy just want his character to 1) stand upright, 2) befit of wearing a dress..since you know, that's what you'll be wearing most time if you're a caster.

I appreciate all the statements being made in here. To those that think so, no, I'm not trying to be a creeper and just get random girls to post here. I wanted to open this discussion up because I'm having a hard time believing there are tons of girl gamers out there. But it's like most of you say, they are probably in hiding to avoid overly sexual nerd guys. And I can understand that, being a nerd - most of us are overly sexual, not counting myself. And to the poster that suggested I go to Boy Gamers instead of Girl Gamers, funny statement.
