Yup, and you can even edit the quote stuff down, but be aware of the brackets, they surround whose quote it is. I messed that up the first time I tried to quoteMr.logic said:so like this?Bebopcola2021 said:No prob. Reported since that's not funny, just somewhat insulting (although I do agree with number 2 in games with microphones) and stupid *insert dumb pug face here* Oh, and the "prove with nude pics" is the reason this whole thread had to exist in the first place because its sexist, even in sarcasm. We shouldn't have to prove anything to you. If someone tells you something, take it with a grain of salt because internet anonymity makes everything suspect.DeadlyGlitch said:I do not believe Dahni or any other "girl gamers" are realy girls, they are either
1. Guys pretending to be girls because they are homosexuals
2. Small children with high pitch voices mistaken as females.
Or 3. Men in Denial because no girls like them, we see this most in cases of extreme gaming addiction were the subject has no social life.
prove with nude pics or your claim is illegitimate.
now if you don't mind, my tin-foil hat needs repairing.
JRPGs tend to be feminine because in Japan, femininity is found to be an sought after trait among men in Japan. Men in Japan want to look womanly (J-Pop stars) just as men in America want to look ripped and full of testosterone (The majority, games like Gears of War show this trend). All of Squeenix's games are made like that because it will sell better in JAPAN. Has nothing to do with the Female American gamer market.kawaiiamethist said:And we fucking own the JRPG market. I'm aware of the girlified trends in Japan, I do watch anime, I refer more to the West. 'Own' was too strong a word, I admit, perhaps 'dominate' would be better suited. We dominate JRPGs like males dominate FPS. These days I like to think fandoms speak volumes, the efforts put in post gaming experience, whether it be praising on the internet, violently bashing it whenever you can, making youtube videos, flash games, fan fiction, fan art, ect. Females, while not more creative, are more willing to invest efforts into writing stories and drawing pretty pictures of their angsty lady boys. When it comes to fandoms, females either invest more of their emotional energy or are simply more vocal.auronvi said:JRPGs tend to be feminine because in Japan, femininity is found to be an sought after trait among men in Japan. You don't OWN the JRPG market though the majority of girl gamers I have met like JRPGs. I would say it's 50/50 because JRPG fans tend to be huge Anime fans and that is definately an even split.
Uhh do you actually pay attention to the writing in games? Guys aren't really getting a fair shake by them either. We get 2 characters to represent us 90% of the time. Either the big barrel chested caveman or the amnesiac spiky haired teenager who got dressed in the dark. The other 10% are just plain assholes.Evil Tim said:Let's say for the sake of argument that we reversed it. All games are now produced primarily for females. Males play games, but the games aren't made with them in mind, nor do they include the possibility of playing as a male character. You have some token male characters who still act like women most of the time, but that's the only bone anyone's prepared to throw you; others are just shown as grunting cavemen or foppish idiots in endless need of being rescued by strong, self-reliant women. To throw in some reverse objectification, the average male character is dressed in a studded thong with realistic ball physics and is a strength 0 magic user obsessed with putting overpriced junk on his crappy car and getting drunk, while the average female in the same game wears practical, sensible clothing, has a well-defined, rounded character, and has a melee weapon that can kill Gods.jboking said:There are girls that are gamers and play online. Why does this matter?
And when you point out you don't like this and want to be represented on the same level as females, people just tell you to shut the fuck up and keep on playing the games that either ignore you, stereotype you, or appear to actively despise you. That'd really suck, wouldn't it?
I agree. But considering the amount of children... yeah Amiga.Lexandra said:Firstly, I want to express my disgust for this long-driven and possibly pointless topic. I'm just stating my opinion here, but I really believe It doesn't matter whether you're male/female/hermaphrodite/anything else. I really have no idea where this landed first and who started it. I for one, am a girl, and for as long as I can remember, I never got any discriminating comments when I played MMOs , or when I introduced myself as being a hardcore gamer, who is by chance, female. I remember back in the days when I first got into the MMO train....most of my mates could not believe I was in fact a girl.
All I know is that anyone, female or male, can be called gamers if their hobby includes spending a third of your week in front of a PC, Playstation or Xbox (heck, Amiga why not, that's how we all started, I guess)
And as for female/male characters in games.....God don't get me started...
That is how they are unequal. =PFallout3Forever said:And to many people who say women are unequal to men.
W.T.F?
They have the Vaginas in my case THERE in control!
Gyrefalcon said:Kurokami said:I doubt anyone does (sic: know how many gamers are girls) so consider it an educated guess.
I'm just saying of course no ones 'sure' most gamers are males. But in my opinion, and most of the world, they are.

What do you know? There has been some further studies done. In short it says:
"The results of the study may go along way toward diminishing the gamer geek stereotype. Among the more eye-opening statistics: nearly 40 percent of gamers are female, and nearly a quarter of gamers are over the age of 40."
Oh come on, male characters can be anything from comically stoic muscleheads [and even they can be charmingly rather than offensively dumb, as per Serious Sam in First and Second Encounter] to wisecracking comic book nerds [see Viewtiful Joe]. In fact, the ludicrously pumped male being in any way ubiquitous is an absurd exaggeration; for every game starring Thunk Lugnut & Friends there's a dozen characters like Gordon Freeman or Max Payne who are physically ordinary.squid5580 said:Uhh do you actually pay attention to the writing in games?
