I would like to say there are no girl games but to be honest I still see the Sims as being marketed towards girls more. (No offense meant to any male Sims players out there).

Hi there. I just want to point out that we are not reviewing these games, but rather poking fun at their premises. What if people looked at the content of games targeted at girls as seriously (and as shallowly) as they looked the content of games like GTA and Halo for boys? We suggest that this is what they would come up with.
That's a later comment from the author of the linked article.

The reviews were essently, as a commentor on the link site who worked on one of the games in question pointed out, based on the back cover of the game. As are most reviews about "horrible violent games". It was a satire.

To the discussion of "girl games". This is "tween" marketing. Not meant for older female gamers. Female "tweens" are the biggest market (last time I checked), and it makes sense to market them. These are not more malevolent than a television show like Hanna Montana. I'm not saying that I think Hanna Montana is a good thing, just that they're the same kind of boat.

If you use games to teach your children life lessons, that's your problem.
If you use games like these to teach your children life lessons, that's also your problem.
If you like these games... your problem.

Personal preference and responsibility much?

To me this is just another section in the absolutely horible section of the gaming industry, Shovel Ware! All of these games need to be demolished now. All these developers make are crapy gimick games that have no place in this world. They have no point at all to be in exsistance but to make a quick buck. It just makes me sick.

I consider myself pretty open-minded about this kind of stuff, having grown with two younger sisters. I even let one of my sisters marry her Barbies to my action men (I think when I was about 6-7 and she was 4-5). There's nothing wrong with being a bit girly, and both my sisters are, but they're tough when they need to be. The issue I see is with my younger younger sister's friends (she's 11 now, her friends are similar ages). One of them refused to touch a car door because a bird had crapped on it, even a week after her dad had cleaned it off. They play games like this.

I'm not worried about many girls who play these games for giggles, but I'm worried that these games are becoming an increasingly large part of a negative female culture being embedded in a large number of girls.

Speaking as a female who plays games (Not a Girl Gamer, I'm not quite THAT extreme), I find the Imagine X crap to be geared toward young girls, as well as the Cooking Mamas, the Barbie Twat-a-thons, and let's not forget the Bratz and Petz serieses...

My point is, if there is a female who managed to stick with video games until puberty and beyond, she shouldn't be offended by the "girl" games. The girliest game I can think of is the Sims, but that hasn't been considered a "real" game for a long time.

But if this is about most females in games being useless, then yes, I will agree, but in real life females are useless, as well. So it's just realism. XD

My girlfriend owns and plays a Wii and her sister plays Xbox. I don't really think there are girl games. Other than those god-awful Brats games. *shudder*

OMG, did you say something about sparkles or clothes or ponies!?

No? Ohh...

Back to reality... I enjoy blowing raider brains all over the place just as much as the next guy. More so even than some of the manly men I know.

So basically, I just ignore stuff like this. If they can make money selling crap like that to girls, good for them. I'll stick to my 'man games'.
I'm with la-le-lu-li-lo on this one. My game collection is small, but consists of Gears 1 & 2, the Halo trilogy, Mass Effect, Assassin's Creed, Zelda, Prince of Persia, and some Mario for wii. I don't know what the hell a "girl game" is supposed to be but I'll take the so called 'boy section' anyday thank you

Well, I was hoping for a smart, witty, cute, funny comment when I saw my message box light up, and when I saw it was from la-le-lu-li-lo I assumed it would be some good humor at an odd post. Alas, it wasnt. I guess i'll have to go find me some lulz to clear my mind of illegal abuse.

They are girl games because girls buy those games. People can be offended as much as they want but at the end of the day, girls are fine with patronisingly stereotypical games so their dollar has the say. (Any girl gamers can get their hands off the keyboards right now; I am speaking of the majority and the sales of "imagine babies" prove that.)

It's the target audience, of course. And that the games are either 'pink and ponies' or 'grunting and testosterone'. There is rarely middle ground.
