My sister used to have this Barbie game for the Super Nintendo. I recall a driving stage where you had to avoid rollerblading pedestrians, stray dogs and the occasional flying Frisbee.

She drives pretty well ten years later. Or, at any rate, hasn't hit any rollerblading pedestrians, stray dogs or Frisbees. Just sayin'.

Back to reality... I enjoy blowing raider brains all over the place just as much as the next guy. More so even than some of the manly men I know.

So basically, I just ignore stuff like this. If they can make money selling crap like that to girls, good for them. I'll stick to my 'man games'.

Nobody, not even the folks making the games, are saying that all girls are or should be into that sort of game content. Just like nobody is saying that all boys should like Madden, or that all gamers should like survival horror.

The more different types of games, the more people will play, it's just that simple. The more people playing, the better.

With that attitude you like a friend of mine. She plays or use to play GTA rather actively and had her fair share of "I want everything dead... NAO!" moments. Another female gamer I use to know was damn hardcore, finishing RPGs right down to collecting every single possible thing and I was upset because I finished FFX and popped 99,999 per hit first. She did admit to never finishing FFVII because Aeris dies (Got to that part when she was nine, refuses to this day to ever touch FFVII and it's been eleven years now I think.)

On another note, met some good girl gamers back in my Halo days. Probably one of the best I played against was a girl. That Althena girl or whatever her name was from the PMS clan.

Again though why would you classify Mass Effect a "boy game", or any of those games for that matter. I don't think the developers of any of those games are aiming to market those games to just guys, I think they realize that will be a big part of the sales and fan base but they don't go out of their way to make the game better for the dudes. I think that those games are made for gamers who enjoy a good story and intense gameplay. I don't think they go into development saying "lets make a game for the cool brothers and the frat boys".

I could be wrong, I could be too optimistic. But I don't really feel comfortable comparing a story heavy game with a game thats main objective is to find the cutest boyfriend.

They're classifying "girl games" on a stereotypical level. I'm making a similar classification on what "boy games" are, but adding the term "so called" to enthuse sarcasm.
The real issue we're addressing here is that these games are giving the implication that this is what a girls life consists of and these are things that they should be practicing. It's an insult to the potential a girl has. If it were an article on 'boy games' saying that all boys should be as pumped as Marcus Fenix, then we'd be having a conversation on why that's wrong.

No idea, I believe her full account name is Althena Twin. Either way, she is/was damn good at Halo. I still managed beat her mind you. Granted with the hours I was logging in Halo 2 after its release, I could beat almost anyone.

I think the main reason I dislike them is because it enforces stereotypes, and makes people who don't fit into those stereotypes seem wrong.

I never had special attraction to pink sparkly games when I grew up. And if something, I feel I've always been treated specially well being a girl who plays boyish games. Boys came and talk to me, told me how cool I was and how happy they were someone like me exists... Some girl friends of mine actually bought PSones to learn how to play tekken so they fit in

Let me give you an example that many people know of. Gamers used to be outcasts and blacklisted. Now it is becoming more mainstream. Despite the rage and numerous fights over this, this would be a good thing. I say would, because the mainstream take over a trend, then act like all the people who started it were doing it wrong before they got there. Case in point: My High school's football team all played Halo and Gears of war, talked about it all the time, and lead you on to think they might know something. Then when you try and have a conversation with them about video games like silent hill, fallout 1/2, or anything before the mainstream boost, they belittle you and compare you to lifeless WoW addicts.

I get your point... I do know people who started gaming after the boom you talked about and that are kind of restricted to 2 or 3 games. When I talked with them about other games they could dismiss me - what did not really matter since I know what's cool and what's not, and I'm cool and they're not so *pfffft* - or they'd be blissfully ignorant about everything outside their gaming bubble and try to detour the conversation back to halo. This never bothered me because I have a group of friends who do know their games and with whom I can talk about games for hours *_* and we kind of made fun of pseudo-gamers.

Well, my brain feels like it just got drop-kicked into a toilet. Some girls may like pink sparkly stuff, and I get that, but are they really gonna want those games? When my sister gets in from school I'll ask her if she'd want to play a game called "My Boyfriend".

You know, I like pink and sparkles. I do. I love all things cute--part of why I loved FF3 on the DS was because it was just so gosh-darned cute. And the first game I played through all the way on my PS2 I got a couple years ago was Tokimeki Memorial Girl's Side, which is a dating sim along the same vein as "My Boyfriend," and to this day one of my favorite games, the only one I've played through to get every single good, bad, and perfect ending, is a dating sim called "Mizu no senritsu." So I'm coming at this from the angle of someone who does, in fact, like the "girlier" games.

I'm really disturbed my some of the entire premise of the "Diss and Make Up" game. There's no reason to try and instill cattiness in girls, or to teach them that popularity is the only way to go, and being too smart and reading is somehow bad. And worse, that being "pretty" is the best thing you can be. All the other games, aside from the Daring Game, which seems good, I kind of rolled my eyes at, but that one game just really rubbed me the wrong way.
