A 10-year-old girl has given birth to a baby boy in Mexico, sparking an investigation by the state's attorney general.

The premature baby was born eight weeks early by caesarian section in Peubla's Women's Hospital after the girl arrived at the facility on October 22 suffering life-threatening complications from the pregnancy, NY Daily News reports.

Officials said the young mother, from the nearby San Francisco Totimehuacan community, returned home after giving birth but visited the hospital daily to breastfeed.

Hospital officials say the newborn, who is recovering from pneumonia in intensive care, is in good condition considering his premature birth.

They said the mother, who was suffering seizures when she arrived, was also recovering well.

The Peubla state Attorney General's Office is now investigating who the father is and whether the girl may have been raped.

It is illegal for women in Peubla to have abortions, unless they can prove they have been forced into sex, but the laws are currently under review.

The state's minimum age of consent is 12.

The age of consent there is apparantly 12, so what do you expect. Child prostitution is also really bad in Mexico, or so I've read. Tbh, I didn't know a female could reproduce at age 10...

I've been to Mexico before to help my father in a medical clinic. Saw a 14 year old girl 8 months pregnant. Her sister, who was 17, had a 2 year old child. Somehow, I'm not as shocked by this news as I wish I were

i think it's technically possible to be born pregnant, i heard a story once of a guy being born with a twin, in his lung tissue and had to have it removed later in life due to problems
( nobody knew it was there, and randomly it started growing )

i realize that isn't the same thing, but imagine if a woman was born with her twin in her womb?

as to rapeing 10 year olds, someone needs to be sent to prison for a long time, let's just say that.

A female can give birth when they reach a certain level of body fat, thats why women tend to go though puberty before men, for men its based on age, for women, its based on their bodies ability to have a child.

I take claims on Wiki with a grain of salt when it isnt something big. I highly doubt a 5 year old could give birth, considering at that age, females dont produce eggs.

Now a 10 year old could. Females go through puberty earlier than males, and puberty is never a really set age. Females can go though puberty as early as 10, depending on many different factors. Females dont produce eggs until puberty, this is also when periods start because the body is producing eggs.

And an age of consent of 12 is just wrong IMO. Arkansas many years ago had an age of consent of 13, and i thought that was bad.

I would put my money on a rape, or molestation, that happened inside the family on this one. If i were the attorney general, all males of the family would be my first suspects.

This has actually happened before. It was in some website that stores myths. Still this is something that can happen especially now given that the chemicals in our food has been speeding up the growth process. But of course the true discussion lies on the part of the sexual intercourse. Which I won't even try approaching cause its far to awkward and uncomfortable for my taste.

Actually, women are born with all the eggs they'll ever have. They don't start Ovulating, releasing them, until Puberty, but they have them before that.

I think that the child (the born one) would be more like a brother that was in gestation with her and got assimilated

I imagine that must have been a very traumatic experience for the girl.
