Probably have better chances winning the lottery then finding a gamer girl.

But maybe you could help out, how do we get some converts, how to bait them to our side?
It is not so important to find a 'gamer girl'. I didn't and all is well. As for 'baiting them to your side' as if they were some woodland creature, well, suffice to say you seem young and I think you mean well, so I'm not going to say what my initial reaction to that phrasing was. Perhaps if you didn't think of girls as something that needed to be baited or trapped ;). People know their own minds as they get older, if someone is curious they will express interest, cramming gaming down someone's throat is the surest route to disinterest
This is really odd because the last girl did say the cage was unnecessary, but I didn't quite believe her, maybe I should stop using that then.

Please don't hold back, I actually I didn't mean well it was intended as a provocation.
Hey don't blame me, it's girls that prefer that sort of thing.

I don't force anyone into gaming but it would be nice if they shared my hobby, as opposed to looking at it with the same distaste as a Baby Seal Burger Shop.

My boyfriend got me more into games than I was. I mean, I'd play games like Spyro, and I had dabbled in the world of Shogun and Civilization, but I didn't get into it as a proper hobby until we started dating.

Now I'm probably nerdier than he is :3

My girlfriend is perfectly fine with my gaming hobby, as she appreciates me for who I am. I sometimes play games around her, but I make her my main focus because I know she's not into it apart from iPhone games.

Since I don't get much time with my girlfriend (she lives in another city) I tend not to game while she's visiting. She has no problem with me gaming and wants me to help her try a few of my favorites sometime.

The only time I have entered a game store in the past few years was when my girlfriend went in to buy Sims 3.

I tried not to notice, but it was fairly obvious that the entirely male presence in the store was a little thrown off by a girl leading a guy into the store...

The girl gamer isn't quite mythological, but it isn't quite common either.

At no other time has that been more apparent to me.

My last gf wasnt really supportive of gaming she felt games and the whole violence thing is wrong and I should spend all that time with her instead.

My girlfriend seems to enjoy watching me play Street Fighter/Mortal Kombat and she plays games like angry birds alot so I suppose she would be considered a 'casual' gamer.
We had a talk about this last night and she said that modern games look overly complex compared to what she is used to but atleast realises if she tried playing them they would tell you what to do and you would pick it up.
She is very interested in playing Portal so she'll probably do that soon and she said if she enjoys it she'll go halfs with me on Portal 2 so we can play it together :)

I'm currently single, but both my exes were very...It's hard to fully describe their relationship with games. One of them were obsessed with WoW way beyond I was, but wasn't into other games at all. The other one had a very casual view towards computer games and is mildly into Call Of Duty and Nintendo (two things I'm barely into at all), and would laugh every time I talked about my card or role-playing habits.

Not me, I just pass that off as 'being a bit of a tool'. As would most of my friends, but I don't doubt people exist who'd respond to that.

Well, baby seal burgers WOULD be rather distasteful. Far too fatty with all that blubber and not nearly enough meat on em.

On of my girlfriend's favourite games is God of War... you just TRY to stop her playing it... at your peril. What can I say? She enjoys murdering mythical creatures in different, violent ways.

This, I feel, is a good thing.

My girlfriend loves it. I showed her the Kingdom Hearts series (not because I'm a fanboy, I actually hate the second entry, but because she's in love with Disney and Tim Burton. I've used this method to get her into anime via Ponyo) and she's been in love with games ever since. Heck, she was my partner for New Super Mario Bros.

She isn't into shooters yet though. I sort of neglected to get her into that genre. It's my man time, ya know?

She doesn't seem to mind. I frequently stop talking to her online to go off and play a couple of games without too much of a problem.

Haven't really tried it in real life yet though. 'Splosion Man's co-op seems to be a good intro to gaming, so I might try that with her at some point.

Single, has met very few women who like games beyond Wii Party/Sports and so on. One of my best friends girlfriends absolutely despises gaming though, poor bastard.

Harsh, so very harsh, I merely jest for the sake of mutual entertainment.

Anyway we haven't really got to the root of the question, how to get girls into gaming.
Is there a good gateway game? Alot of girls are willing to try it but as the first one holds no appeal they will brush it off as stupid / boring / childish.
Or to start out small, what got you into gaming and why?

How about an RPG that featured Rats Asses shoes then?
I would probably buy it. Although, would the rats asses have shoes, or the shoes be made of rats asses?
I think sylvanian family sized footware for the rats asses, with sucker attachments.
And for the shoes a la ass, I'm thinking of a 'slip-on' stylie, wth the ass part on the toes and the head on the heel, this way you could always kick two asses at once at worst.
I would add a touch of flourescent green into the mix so you would always be able to find your
'glow in the dark ass footware'. Squeaky clean green ass fun.

My girlfriend isn't a gamer. She has a DS that she barely plays, and plays Rock Band and Guitar Hero if given the opportunity, but otherwise she isn't a gamer. She pokes fun at when I was really, really excited for Portal 2.

I'd buy that game. Perhaps Fallout should have the ability to craft footwear out of glowing radioactive giant rat skins?
