Girlfriends! (or significant others) How do they take to gaming?

Just thought id ask how guys into gaming or other geeky hobbies, who have girlfriends that are not as geekily inclined lets say, approach gaming with their girlfriend (if at all). This also applies to the rare breed of geeky girls who's boyfriends arn't geeky (im not saying geeky girls are rare, but if you are a geeky girl there are usually hundreds of geeky guys wanting to jump on you!)

Do you only play when your other is not around, do you try to introduce them to gaming, do you force it on them or god forbid do you ignore them for hours on end whilst you have a W.O.W marathon or modern warfare party?

my better half is by no means a fan of gaming but enjoys watching me play games that have interesting gamplay and story (fallout, assasins creed, mafia to name a couple she has enjoyed watching) which makes me a very happy gamer! Also encouraged her to buy her own xbox and she is owning fable at the moment (something sexy about watching a girl who is good at games).

Thought it may be interesting to see what approaches you guys have to gaming with your other half?

While she's not my girlfriend there's a girl whom I really like. She's not a gamer, but when she came over last week she had a go on Minecraft (I put it on peaceful because I know those Creepers do whatever they can to ruin my life), and she really liked it. So now I've borrowed a Wii to play some 2 player games. With other girls and friends who don't like gaming I just don't game when we're together, and get my fix in my spare time.

Well, my left hand is a pretty big part of my gaming activities. It usually rests on the WASD cluster or the left analogue stick.
BAZZING! I wondered when someone would post that :)

On an unrelated note I see that you've been here around about the same length of time as me and have very close post counts. I only mention it because I rarely see people with the Landmark badge.

My girlfriend, although she complains, doesn't have a problem with my gaming, video, card, board, or otherwise. She reasons that there are MUCH worse things I could be investing my time and money into and SOMETIMES she reluctantly joins in (although if we're playing MtG on her bed and her roommate walks in, the cards go EVERYWHERE as she frantically tries to hide them).

I'm sure that doesn't look suspicious.

OT: My ex claimed she was into video games, but it turned out she just meant Guitar Hero and The Sims. In fact we walked into gamestop and the guy behind the counter was talking to someone about WoW Cata like a year before it came out and my ex told me that I was forbidden to get it

My Girlfriend tolerates me gaming, as long as I keep her company too at times.

Unless it's any 2d Super Mario or donkey kong jump'n'run or mario kart. she's obsessed with those and can play them well beyond the point I'm sick of it.

I'm just going to say, I always thought my Wii was underused until I got a girlfriend. It's non-threatening, and an easy way to ease a newcomer into gaming.

Now we play just about everything, but when I occasionally get on XBL, she just talks on the mic, which is hilarious.

Well I try to play games with my gf (currently playing borderlands) now that she has a good laptop. Really the only problem is a time we can play together and keeping connection.

If you're trying to lure a girl into gaming I think a nintendo DS would probably be a good way. Simple, convenient and not that demanding with the stylus controls.

Left hand? What kind of inhuman creature are you?

Anyway, the gf is a big fan of Mass Effect and Left 4 Dead 2. And Zelda. And Red Dead Redemption. Etc etc etc. No problem there.

She's blissfully ignorant of the subject.
Has no problem with me playing though, I've happily gamed and chatted to teammates on skype as she watches some crappy soap or sleeps behind me. That's not something I'd do all the time though.

I'll see if she enjoys some things we can play together but it's not overly important if she doesn't like stuff, Peggle seems to work though.
