I game. My bf doesn't game as much as he did when he was younger. We both had to put gaming on the back burner for a little while. (ME with my 2 jobs and finals, him with 2 jobs)

Well, my girlfriend likes Mario and other casual titles like that. Oh, and she's way better at Diablo 2 and Starcraft than I am. Without a doubt, she can beat the hell out of me in PVP, it's not even CLOSE.
Hmm, perhaps part of the problem is that a lot of the games marketed to girls ARE stupid, boring and childish, and it's very easy for the rest to pass you by if you're not immersed in or familiar with 'gaming culture'. It's hard to say what got me into gaming, I've pretty much forgotten by now. I don't recall exactly how I came across one or asking for them, but I started gaming with an Atari 2600, old greenscreen, cassette game Amstrad CPC464 and an Amiga 500+ (damn, I wish I knew what became of that old Amiga, I bet it got thrown out), so as far as I'm concerned it always fascinated me, which probably makes me a bit of an exception.Mr.K. said:

Getting a job in a LAN gaming centre helped refire my interest too
One thing to bear in mind is ease of gameplay mechanics for anyone not experienced in playing games. I've seen this in myself after a long break from gaming, my girlfriend and many other girls who are brought along to the gaming centre by guys - even complex controls can become 2nd nature if you play a game enough, but for someone not even familiar with holding a controller it can be very difficult to wrap your head around, especially when navigating a 3-D environment (and worse if first-person perspective) in a way that is hard to grasp if you're more seasoned at gaming. It requires patience and a willingness to try the game to master.
If your first time at trying a game is just frustrating and you're getting hammered, without seeing any results of your attempts to progress, you're unlikely to be so keen to try again. 'Instant gratification' type games may be best for a beginner, it all depends what someone is most familiar with.
Case in point - my flatmate doesn't game, and doesn't really 'get' or want to play complex lengthy games, but she fucking loves Tekken for a bit of accessible, button mashing combat fun. I find navigating a first-person game without a controller really difficult because I went through many years of only having a console to play on, no PC or laptop, whereas my girlfriend is the opposite despite not being a gamer these days, because she grew up playing on a PC.
And now I may have destroyed the thread with a giant tl;dr. Sorry about that.

We also met on a gaming forum called Gamespot, that we both ended up being banned from for unknown reasons. -.- And we both play similar games but we do also have some differences in that category as well. We've been together for over 2 years now. Leaving next month to spend some time with him. <3
Now I do tend to argue with him over video games but I only do that when I want to have some alone time with him. It's great and all that we often play video games together, but I would like some alone time with him sometimes if you catch my drift. xD

I usually get my fix in my spare time, but sometimes she likes to watch me play story heavy games or ones that look like a movie when playing (Red Dead, Mafia, this kind of thing) and she does enjoy playing smaller casual games after I bought Bejeweled on her iPhone and forced her to try. She loved it

I can agree with that.
In fact the one time my gf and I did decide to play some video games was at her house. Although she isn't an obsessive many-thousands-of-hours-filed-under-games person like I am.

One of my ex-girlfriends couldn't believe that she liked a guy that played video games most of the week, but she accepted it.

I'm a geeky gamer girl, but I'm usually single. If I do have a significant other, they're usually into gaming, but not as much as I am. I have a lot of guy friends, though, and a lot of their girlfriends tend to say "You want to game? Um...yeah, go call Liz." I'm not sure what that makes me, but it works for me. I get to play co-op, and I guess their girlfriends get a reprieve?
