So after reading that what are your thoughts about the mother of the boy not even pressing charges? This is pretty much assault on a small boy. Also brings up the question of even though the mom isn't pressing charges, should the school and city do something about it? If a few boys did this to a girl you know their asses would be in court and probably be thrown in juvenile hall, but if girls do it then what?
I bring this up because its always interesting to see peoples opinions and law and punishment to me.
And yet when a boy did it [http://arstechnica.com/tech-policy/news/2011/03/14-year-old-child-pornographers-sexting-lawsuits-get-serious.ars] (hell, these girls used force and he didn't) he was charged with 'producing and distributing child pornography'. I get so fucking sick of the sexism in the justice system.
But, I don't think
any children should be given a criminal record that
could affect their entire life over something as menial as this or 'sexting'. If I were the officer on scene I'd have told the girls' parents that what they did could merit such a charge and that they need to
seriously discipline their children and ensure this
never happens again. This was, at the least, sexual assault and, at worst, production and distribution of child pornography. I'd also inform the boy's parents that they had a right to press such charges, but advise them to attempt to work it out with the girls' parents first.

First off this is completely and utterly ridiculous. I have no idea why anyone would want to put another person through something like this. This is one of those ordeals that could potentially traumatize a child. The only reason I think that they deserve some juvenile detention or some heavier form of punishment is because if a boy did it then he would be at juvi. Honestly I don't think it deserves that great of a punishment, just obvious punishment from parents and a school suspension, however since heavier actions would be put on boys if they did it, then its only fair that girls receive the same treatment.
I complete agree (as do Sarniker et al (2007)) that the misandric bias rampant in the justice system needs to be eradicated, but I don't think that cases such as these merit a criminal charge for either gender. I think they could possibly count as a strike on the kid's record, but even then, it's a kid. I certainly think very strong punitive measures ought to be taken by the school, up to expulsion.

People need to get it through their heads that females, especially at that age where there isn't much of a physical difference, can be just as horrible and violent as males if given the chance. The mother should absolutely be pressing charges, this is the kind of thing that can scar someone for life.
This is sexual assault no matter who was doing what, and those girls need to be punished to the full extent of the law. At the very least they should be expelled.
Fuck these double standards.
Wahey, finally! A woman on these boards I don't have to get into a protracted fight with! Although you
are a self-professed ladette, so perhaps that's why?
