I've just finished reading the first page and I gotta say that, on pretty much any other board, I would've seen about half a dozen "make me a sammich, woman" jokes by now, at the very minimum. So, Escapist? I'm impressed.

The way I look at it there 99% of the gaming population is very tolerable and welcomes girls to play online with them, however it's the silly 1% that confuses the crap outta me. I may just be trying to hard to figure out what goes through their heads that they feel the need to belittle the female gamer. I am more than happy that a lot of you do not think lowly of girl gamers and in fact encourages them to play on.

You should be able to realize that 1% is giving EVERYONE shit not just girls. Guys get called names and have their manly hood questioned. They are the same assholes that make racist remarks. They are the same ones that would berate someone over their sexuality. It isn't just about being a GIRL. That is just your particular weak point so they zero in on it to compensate for their own inadequacies. It is just like name calling on the playground it happens to everyone.

You are absolutely right. It suck that people can't except simple things like gender and race when it comes to something that is supposed to be enjoyed.It kinda ruins it for the rest of us. The best thing that we can do is ignore it (someone had mentioned this earlier) no matter how annoying it gets.

O.T. There have always been plenty of girls playing games. You're just oblivious to it because you never looked for any.

Its not that I'm oblivious (okay maybe just a little) and I'm not denying that girl gamers are in abundance, I am simply stating that in certain cases girls get treated differently than guys. I'm not saying that this is boys aren't treated differently too, it just seems to be more obvious with girls. Regardless, there is always going to be someone somewhere who thinks lowly of another person because of their gender, race, age,etc.

I can see where your going with this. Again it's all about stereotypes and how much they suck. The topic itself is really no big deal, but when things like "tetris is for moms" are said it gets me thinking about why that person would say some thing like that when it can be enjoyed by everyone. My curiosity of human behavior gets the best of me some times and leads me to ask simple questions (like the ones in the topic) and then the harder ones like "why?" and expect these well developed answers and reasons behind the thought....but I digress.

Erm... I really doubt Boys give a crap that Girls are playing these games, or even notice.

I was playing CoD for a few hours today, I had my mic on and was chatting away, no one batted an eyelid that I was a Girl, it really doesn't matter anymore. All they cared about was me and others being able to work as a team etc. (sabotage)

The only people it matters to are 13yo Boys who're going through puberty "OMGZZ A GURL!!!!11"

Girls who have to spout off "Hey look at me, Boys, I've got tits and play gamezz!"

Nah, no harm done. I suppose I just get bothered to hell when people take such a big notice of this bollocks. If we ignore all these labels then maybe we can advance and these kinds of threads will move on (Again, no harm done on your part, I see your thinking now). But yes, I guess it's just one of those things, Girls play Animal Crossing, Blokes play CoD, Dads play Space Invaders and Mums play Little Big Planet or Peggle. I can't wait for the day when these stereotypes are gone.

I reckon that if we must use these stupid labels, let's just stick to hardcore/casual/FPS/RPG/etc. Surely that's better insight and an easier way for people to connect.

I don't think girls should stop playing games, I even think they would improve them if they did. They bring a new environment to games and couls probably help us develop better games.
I even think that most of the girls would beat men at their favorite games.

I wish more girls I knew played games. Could have something to talk with them about and not get those "Oh, wow. What a loser/dork/nerd" looks when they overhear me talking to one of my friends about a game. That said, I wish more girls were actually GAMERS, not people who play games. I have only met one girl in my entire life that I would call a Gamer. The rest are simply girls who play games--many of them just so they can appeal to the hot jock who happens to play Call of Duty.
