If you have so much free time to spend on this forum then why don't use use it to do something productive? Like make me a sandwich. It isn't going to make itself.
I would but you've been playing so much Cooking Mama, you won't get out of my kitchen! Ha! You call that making a sandwich?! Go get a beer and get back in the living room!

Personally I'm dreading the day Diablo III is released. That's when wifey takes over my gaming rig, for her all nighter Diablo sessions, and won't let me come near the keyboard, for fear of loosing a hand in the process.

Some say she is rather... passionate about her Diablo gaming hobby.

I remember getting my ass kicked by a team of pro gamers in an exhibition match in CS. Turns out they were an all girl pro games. Never seen so much rage coming from one team when they'd go who matches without a single death. So yeah, girls, guys, all play games with the same starter level, it just depends on the person.

I thought this was about girl characters being more prominent in games.
Which is a far more interesting topic. Because personally I find it really annoying when there's a token girl (typically a 'badass', or more accurately just a dude with tits) among a cast/team of all-male characters. Women are severely underrepresented in games.

Thats actually a really good point. Realisitically all us girls have as representatives of our gender in video games are characters like Lara Croft or Madison from Heavy Rain, the action girl badass who's wit and ability make her stand out. Its a good point to say girls don't have a viable representative in the video gaming world.

I recently wrote this another thread about the reaction to girls playing games and as i've been playing video games since i was 4 i'd class myself as a hardcore gamer. I never really understood the appeal of "family friendly" games and the idea that girls are more drawn to them. I have a PS3 and just prefer to play serious games.

What i do get annoyed about is hearing the crap that some other girls come up with. the whole trash talking guys with the whole "getting beat by a girl" speech is tiring to listen to. I was playing with some clan mates a few days ago in a game and it turned out that there was another girl already in the game. one of my clan mates (a guy) got sniped by this other girl and she began to throw all these cliche feminist comments at him, despite the fact he was quite cordial about the whole thing an congratulated her, she wouldn't stop. he let slip that i was a girl and she started harrassing me about it.

this kind of "girl power" attitude is serious annoying to a lot of girl gamers. all i want to do is play the game and enjoy it, not make a big damn song and dance about it.

Girls can do and play whatever they want. I don't see their presence in the gaming world as an intrusion. I guess some guys want gaming to stay a boys club but I welcome the estrogen. There are few things that the presence of girls do not improve.

I don't want them to live up to the stereotype of casual games, or family friendly. But I do not consider Zelda and certain Mario games very casual

But, a female gamer who only plays super popular competitive games that you mention as hardcore, is not the type I'd like. Because those games are most prominently played a by dicks too.

How about a girl who has the ability to NOT just follow a crowd? That'd be nice.

Girls... psh. I don't much care about them to begin with. So why would I care what video games they play?

I only care what LITTLE girls and boys play. For obvious reasons.

However, I will put something out there that I heard. I don't know what the reasons are, really, but as far as hardcore gamers go, gamer girls are a lot more likely to have problems related to video games such as addiction than gamer boys. That's interesting, but I can't figure out exactly why. :/

Girls and Games. Oh, I do very much like both.

And I don't mind playing against a girl. Or against Morgan Freeman. Or against anyone who is fun to play against.

It's los simples.
And the female version of Morgan Freeman ?

[sub](good luck getting that mental image out of your head now :-D)[/sub]
That's a mental image I can live with:) Oddly familiar though.

I've heard that the online gaming community treats girls like crap but I haven't really noticed this in action I only know that people are jerks to girls online because of popular sayso. When I've come across girls in games (mostly Valve games) I didn't notice a negative attitude, perhaps thats just luck, do girls really get a lot of grief?

OT: Play what you like.

I don't think there is a problem with girls playing any kind of game, mainly because there really isn't anything stopping them from doing so. I don't object to them playing more "hardcore" games either, although assholes online are to be expected, but not everyone. At the expense of maybe sounding sexist, the only major problem I have would be those "girl gamers" that constantly go on about how they play CoD or give the usual speech to some person on how it feels to be beaten by a girl. I find this more irriating and annoying than the usual 8-year olds screaming in my ear to be honest.

(The following is a mockery, do not take literally)

HEY!

I met plenty of girls playing Left 4 Dead 2 for the hour It was fun until I realised I was bored out of my mind playing a samey, easy to grasp, no skill shooter that any self respecting male gamer wouldnt look at twice between cockslapping Fools on Modern Warfare 2 (This predates Black ops) and flexing your muscles as you teabag some "Noob" (used sarcastically) on Gears of War 2!

hmmm... That might be misconstrued... lets try it again!

I met a girl in modern warfare once!

It was an amazing occassion!

She even had a mic and everything! and the 2 kills she got for her team was something to be commemorated and no Im not joking she literally got like 2-3 kills over 8 - 11 deaths. But then again the clan I used to hang around with were the foaming at the mouth sorts so... yeah...

Erm... Thinking... thinking... pro female gamer argument...

A girl I know is a legend on Halo reach?
Thats good? if you consider Reach to be a good game... but then again ... Yeah...

I got nothing.

BACK TO THE WII WITH YOU FEMALES! You're not welcome on the XBL / PSN realms!

***

EDIT:

Wanna quickly add while on the subject of raising the ire of girl gamers.

Can you PLEASE Stop going on about how great it is to be a chick in games?

When I used to play LOTRO I would see in the global chats these girls going on about how they are girl gamers.

YES, Well done. Im sure we're all VERY impressed you figured out the buttons on your keyboard can be used for something other than typing ROFL and LOL into MSN / Facebook / sterotypical social site.

Well, I am a girl and enjoy playing more hardcore games vs. "girly" games. I recently just bought Killzone 3 for the Move, and love it. I don't see why we have such polarized views on girls and guys still.. I thought we were more evolved than our parent's 1960's view. Come on now..

Combining the word Hardcore with Killzone 3 earns you a patronising LOL from the Black Ops / Bad Company 2 crowd.

Ready?

"LOL!"

Now we shall all move on from this day a little stronger and more educated for it!

Quite the opposite truth be told. I know more than a handful of guys who will hear a female voice on XBL and instantly add them as a friend without any other reasoning before doing their best to suck up to them.

Its hysterically funny as most of these guys seem to correlate "Girl + Net friend = Sex?"

I got the other route and straight up ignore them until I have declared them free of the "Look at me Im a girl gamer" attitude.

Being a girl gamer has both ups and downs, I prefer not to say I'm a girl while playing WoW or evony because you do get treated differently. It doesn't really mean it's a bad thing thou but to get moneys and gifts the minute after you declared your gender makes me feel like an inferior.

I like most games but occasionally I find myself playing a hardcore fps game even thou I don't like it just because I wanna fit in with my gamer friends who are all male... silly me.
