From my time playing TF2, I can tell you more often than not, players and especially admins will bend over backwards for you if you are girl. Say a little insult to her? Kicked. Banned.

It's kind of pathetic really.
Must impress teh ladiez!! Maybe they will go on a date with them then have secks. I would imagine girl gamers hate that almost as much as being ridiculed.

Dude, arrested development... nice. I cant wait for the movie, hopefully they will bring it back after the movie release.
Haha! I love you man! Not many Arrested Development fans on this website!

Really? (Her? XD)

It's a bloody classic, I bought all the DVD's. I think some people just dropped their brains when they were young and got it really dirty cos' thats the only thing that I can think of that might explain their ignorance of AD.

But yeah, that's a big reason for why I don't play online much.
I actually barely know any girls online, though that's probably coincidence. If I did, I would frag her the same as I would frag any guy.
and thats the way some girls would rather have it :) at least i would

I hate to do this but you asked to be treated the same as any guy so this is what I would say to a guy, dont you think "that" picture undercuts your message? And like I said I hate to do this because I was raised properly so I am not supposed to argue with women, am I exempt from this rule because you wanted to be treated like any guy out there?
Its for lack of a better picture at this moment. too lazy and busy to find another one and don't remember which disc my photos are all on. Please argue with me and treat me the same as any guy. I actually prefer it. Most of my jobs have been me with all men. I don't expect or want special treatment. Nor do I want to be exempt from rules or such. I have always been treated as one of the boys that's all I want. Makes me happy.

Dont get me wrong its a nice picture... that guys will notice. Also, if I do argue with you chances are I am going to feel very sick so I would rather avoid it... its alot worse when I think I have hurt (by accident always but still) a woman, its just insane how much my brain hates me. =D

I see no reason why girl gamers can't exist, but believing in them is kinda like believing in God. I have yet to see proof.

I kid. I'm sure that they are out there, I just have yet to find them. All the girls I know that claim to be suck at it. Actually, one --just one-- is pretty good.

Edit: Looooooong reply.

so when it comes to things like RPGs, Rock Band/Guitar Hero, MMORPGs, I become a lot more competitive.
Strange...I completely overlooked Rock Band, and that's the biggest slice of "wasted my time pie." My female friends in Rock Band tend to be so much better at it than all my guy friends that it makes me sick, though only one can play the drums, and none of them can play the bass (of all instruments)...which is cool, cause that's my job.

I was talking FPS exclusively.

Rather, I'm more interested in whether or not anyone notices that girls are often thought of as the cloth-wearing mage or healer. Personally, I feel naked without plate armor, and form loving bonds with my axes. Is it that girls in general really do prefer to take classes that get their hands dirtied a little less than a melee fanatic, or is it a stereotype given to us 'cause casters wear dresses? >.>
I was wondering this myself, but with such a lack of source material, I have nothing with which to make my study. I surmise that 'girl gamers' fall into one of four categories: some kinda hexer role, with all the gimmicky debuffs, or a healer, or a damaging caster, or the bruiser. While this sounds like running the gamut, it certainly isn't, as it's really but two different roles. If anyone could confirm/contradict this, please do.

I swear, one more mother who buys their daughter My Little Pony: Pinkie Pie's Party because The New Super Mario Bros. is too "boyish" and I'm gonna vomit rainbows. "Girl games" tend to be an excuse to sell mediocre/crap games painted pink.
Always wondered what the 'girl gamers' thought of these. Good to know that they have no more appeal for you than for me. ...that's not an actual game you listed...is it?

Don't know what we are talking about here.....
but since the topic title is girls and gaming......

A majority of Girl gamers are boring outside of the game........all they want to do is game....no hiking...no swimming...no cycling...no basketball....no soccer.....all they want to do is come over your apartment for sexy time and play tf2 alllll damn day.

Oh yes, "Stawberry Shortcake" was an atari game that I actually owned (inherited with my older brother giving me his atari 2600 - why he had it I didn't ask).

My little pony and rainbow bright were also some games ported over to nintendo or other consoles that are just complete crap-o-la on a stick, that some company thought they could cash-cow out, because they were games appealing to the "girl" gamer... which they were not.

They might appeal to the gay man though...

Hey, I'm a girl! At least I'm 99.999% sure I'm a girl. I think games are fun! They provide a nice little escape and a fun activity for a while, and I find nothing more hilarious than the whole rocket launcher/close quarters/multiplayer scenario. Games are great social activities (as proven by my last statement) and I would love to play with more girls!
Hey, this sounds like an ad on the singles page...
Who says it isnt? XD

Girls are like guys, except more interesting, more mature, and on the whole, more intelligent.
Hmm, that's a bit of a generalization. I think it just depends on what girls you've been around, I always found that when they're young, boys are less mature than girls, but when guys grow up a bit they catch up, and in their late teens they level out. On the intelligence front, well that will change from case to case, but in my class at schoolthere are more outstanding male students than female, despite that the males are outnumbered. When it comes to the guys who you know, or have known Max, perhaps you have been dealt a bad hand :p.

Look, for the majority of gaming history its audience has been made up of schoolboys and thirty year old virgin males. Then playstation sponsored a tent at Glastonbury, style overtook content and gaming became cool all of a sudden. The problem is that while people with social skills suddenly found time to game, people that played games didnt suddenly develop social skills. I'm not justifying the mysoginistic examples of stupidity women may encounter while gaming, but to moaning about it will be as about as fruitful as me complaining about some squeaky voiced American Adolescent calling me a 'fag' every time he blows me up with a rocket launcher, despite the fact the only time he's ever even seen a naked woman is in his dads 80s porn collection...

I'm a girl and I play online all the time. I've never had any problem with guys not letting me play because I am a girl or guy just killing me because I am a girl. And it's not because I kick ass. I have good and bad days (as a sniper on TF2). It might be because on my gamertag but if they add me as a friend then they can see I am a girl. If anyone wants to play an alright sniper on TF2 then add me. My id is my gamertag: spawny0908.

I wonder if it's something to do with siblings... I'm female (not exactly 'a girl' anymore) and I grew up with 2 older and decidedly geeky brothers. My best friend was in the same boat and we've both played games since childhood. Most girls I know who get massively into gaming tend to because they are brought up around it, whereas men tend to get into it because they've gravitated towards it of their own free will!

Ok I'm sure that's not 100% true, but it's not uncommon I don't think.

I'm pretty much going to agree with and second the sentiments posted above about being a female working in a game store. It makes online sexism seem tame. I swear, the next customer to ask 'do you actually play these?'....*grumble*

I don't tend to play many games online with strangers, if only because the majority of the population seems to be retarded, and I have a good base of friends to pester if I want to play something multiplayer. It probably doesn't help that most of my games of choice are RPGs and really niche titles.

It's a shame that the Amplitude online servers shut down...I was a beast at that game to the point where none of my friends would play against me anymore.

Bleh, long day at work and this is probably rambling nonsense. Moral of the story: most people don't care what you think, unless you go out of your way to insult them. Gender has nothing to do with it.

Should instal some kind of trap door... work out the details like cost and where it goes later.

No sense in bringing something up that I don't even remember.
Oh come on, that's a bit weak. It isn't really on to dismiss people's criticism of you just because the opinions for which they are criticising you are 'two months old'.

Agreed. There is something exceedingly vain and 'attention-seeky' about women who use pictures of themselves as their avatars. More so if it's a really posey picture.

And stop being so apologetic, you silly man!

Hmm, being apologetic gets noticed too... noted. And having any picture of yourself as youre avatar is vain? I have a picture of me as my avatar... am I vain? But I think everyone would feel better about themselves if mirrors didnt exist.

We have 2 female raiders in my WoW guild, which is really hardcore regarding trial difficulty and competitive mentality. No, they are noone's girlfriends. They probably talk on vent a grand total of...twice a year? And they both kick ass, really excellent players and with 100% attendance.

On the other hand my own gf enjoys to knock gaming as something silly and thinks I am a manchild for being into it (no, she doesn't actually say that, but you can see it in her eyes), but if tied on a chair with a controlled duck taped on her hands, she can play games like Fable 2 and Eternal Sonata for 8 hours straight. Go figure.
Well what else is she gonna do? She is strapped to a chair. =D

If you find that annoying, wait for the guys who'll randomly start cybering on you or ask you if you are touching yourself right now.

That is when the real fun starts online.
Do you really think I would raise something like that unless I was 99% sure? I'm a very courteous guy & I just think everyone should be honest, otherwise it can lead to confusion, embarrassment and more importantly manipulation.
I'm sorry, but I have no idea what you mean. :/
