There are some styles that should be punishable by death

1. Male Ponytails- get rid of it. Stop looking like a hitman in a bad 80's movie.
2. Fu man Gross- Any facial hair hanging off your face that is not maintaned. Your not a Rockstar, you have food caught in it.
3. Amish Mistake- Very thick full beard- Trim it Brother Shamus
4. Curly Hipster Doughbag- That curly mustache that hipsters like to rock that makes them look like a boxer from the 40's. You look like the Red Barons retarded half brother that he never calls.
For the most part I don't agree with you (I've rocked the handlebar myself) but that last one there made me spit my coffee, so kudos sir.

I stand firmly behind that men in their heart of hearts all want a big viking beard. I unfortunately wasn't blessed with good hair for a beard of that nature... it looks like pubic hair on my face so I'm forced to shave and suffer the humiliation of looking like a over grown baby. I think my dad took it all for himself personally, he's got a proud manly beard.

Every woman I've talked to about this says they like clean shaven but they're simply wrong. If a gang of thugs approached you in a alley what would you want your man to look like? Clean shaven with only a hopefully manly jawline or have a beard so mighty that it looks like it might be packing heat of its very own.
I REST MY CASE!

EDIT: Example above ^

I rather like a good beard. Not a neck beard though, those are just a sign of laziness. I like a manly man.

I have noticed, through a touch of profile stalking, that the ladies saying 'ick' are still quite young. I wonder if it will be more appealing to them in a few years, just a thought.

I do like some facial hair, but not a full on viking beard which make is blasphemy to me since I love vikings.

Goatees can be pretty damn awesome, depending on how it's managed of course.

Amusingly, I've been told I have a very villainish look to me; as I rock a pony tail and a goatee. Laughing at the jealous rage women get in over my superbly naturally thick hair I do nothing to maintain (beyond washing that is); I love it when they run their fingers through it. Did short hair once a long time ago, never going back.

Besides, we're hit men, what are you going to do about it? ;)
I am going to have to +1 this. I have a long time girlfriend who threatens to kill me if I cut my hair or shave my Mephistopheles from my face. The answer to the OP is always going to depend on both the person sporting the facial hair, and the girl admiring said sporter of hair.

edit: Also possessing of the naturally thick hair that grows endlessly.

I like some 5 o'clock shadow, but I can't stand thick nasty beards. It's horrid, because my boyfriend really wants a Gandalf beard. Luckily, I don't think he quite has the ability.

I could probably stand a goatee, but in general, I would rather if a man was just shaven.

That really depends on the man and the beard. Some beards look awesome, some just look silly. Depends, as in all matters of the face, on bone structure. But an attractive man in an attractive and well-kept beard is fine by me.

This.
It really does depend on the face and beard. I would have to say if it looks right and clean. Then it's cool, I don't want to see that you had eggs for breakfast.

Could never go wrong with goatees, especially Van Dykes.

Dude here.

I have a Goatee/Chinstrap combo going on.

It's impossible to recreate in character generators. :(

My girlfriend likes it.

Edit: Sorry about the lighting, it's almost 2 am here and our living room light is one of those "white" power saving lights which makes everything look super weird.

And yes, I do trim my jaw line, moustache, neck, cheeks, and chin to individual lengths.
Now that is what I'd call a nice beard.

Now, 'Chin Curtains' are boring and just look as though the fella is incapable of growing a proper beard. Half-assed goatees are in the same boat (for example, 'Soul Patches'). They just look... eh, I just get the impression, besides being 'beardly challenged', that they're scared of growing a full blown beard. Beards should be embraced!

Though this next one might need a wee bit of a trim:

And finally, Mr Ian Anderson:

Oh, I also found this during my search:

And certainly this.

I think I put far too much thought into this post...

Anyone who disproves of beards by thinking they are uncool, unstylish, and/or unmanly, I point you to the picture below and dare you to state that again.

Seriously, though, just go with what you can naturally pull off while keeping it groomed and maintained if you really want to go with that kind of look. Different women and men have different tastes in looks, so you'll never get a definite "right" answer.

Yeah, I'll go with that... though I'll add that it also depends on how the facial hair grows out. Chinese people... or rather east Asians in general, just cannot do beards, like, at all. When we grow beards, it just goes downwards and unless you're older than sixty, it just looks sooooooooooo wrong. I can do five-o'clock shadow (which idiotically takes a couple days to grow) but that's about it. As for on other guys... nah... just... nah. (Except 'lawful evil' goatees, of course!)

For some reason, that reminded me of Lo Tae Zhao from the 1982 film, Flight of Dragons:

It's a fantabulastic film! I could never forget the name of that film, not once... especially considering how much my mum bloody well quoted it when I was young.

I'm not a girl, But i can tell you it completely depends on your face and what style you go for, Some people just can't pull off a beard while others can, If it fits it looks great but otherwise it looks terrible.

Yeah, sure.

It depends on the man but I can definitely appreciate a beard or most other facial hair on a guy.

As long as you don't let it go complete lumberjack/santaclaus/WoW dwarf beard it should be fine and stylish if kept right. This only applies if you can actually grow beards though. I used to rock one and it was alright but itchy as hell and my girlfriend likes me better without it.

Then you see guys that have patchy/neckbeards and its just straight up unattractive, and thats coming from a dude. No girl finds neckbeards or patchy beards attractive. Hell, only a few thought my full, trimmed beard was attractive so what hope do y'all have?
