Grab the Witcher Enhanced Edition.

Great game. The sequel is coming out soon as well.
This! If you want something older: Planescape Torment.

Dragon Age: Origins is quite good too.

disgea, any of them you can't go wrong

shin megumi tensei, anything with that in the title.

tales of vesperia, just plain good

breath of death and/or Chtulu saves the world, Xbox live indie games the best $4 you will spend

resonance of fate, funny, weird, and heavily underrated.

All of which where stolen from mods for the Native Mount & Blade. I know this as I bought the game back at v.2xx when it was cheap, and was a fan/supporter all the way up to v1.0. Never expected Taleworlds to backstab like they have, but yeah, they did. I was promised all improvements for continuing to support M&B and pretty much got shafted when they side stepped that agreement and re-released M&B with mod additions and Multiplayer.

Unless you've been with M&B from prior 1.0 native, you don't know the full story.
Stolen is a strong word. What most likely happened were the original mod owners were asked permission to use mod content in an up-coming new Mount&Blade game. Not to mention, you forget that not everyone mods. I'm also struggling to grasp the idea that the improvement in graphics was due to a mod, as well as having the ability to kick. Not to mention they've had to sort out making a multi-player mode which is heavy work considering how small Taleworlds is.

Assuming you're right that the mod content was stolen, at the end of the day no one has spoken out against Taleworlds for stealing content that they were allowed to use if they felt like it without any form of acknowledgement. Honestly, you're the only one I've heard act incredibly bitter about the game.

I recommend Tales of Symphonia, a JRPG that's not afraid to mess with your expectations.

I also second recommendations like Kingdom Hearts, The World Ends With You, Shadow Hearts, and Shin Megami Tensei/Persona

Ok, RPGS worth playing listed in no particular order:

The Dragon Age series. It's got its flaws, but it?s one of the most in-depth universe in a game without all the information being cumbersome or intruding.

The Witcher. Based of a European novel, it's one of the cooler RPG's, but some mechanics are a bit cumbersome.

The Mass Effect series. These science fiction RPGs are my favourite games of all time. I don't think I can personally give it a better endorsement.

Fallout: New Vegas. It's been out long enough to be stable - at least on the PC - and well worth a shot. It's much greater then its Bethesda predecessor but has some flaws in its design.

The Baldur's Gate series. A classic from my favourite developer, what?s not to love?

The Knights of the Old Republic games. Easily the best Star Wars based games out there, even though the second was rushed by a different studio than the first. At least play the first one.

Jade Empire. It's made by Bioware and Nathan Fillion voice acts in it. Is that not enough?

Also: Honourable mentions to the Deus Ex games for having RPG elements and awesome game play. At least play the first if you haven't already.

Dragon age, Baldur?s Gate 1+2, Planescape Torment, Eschalon book 1+2, Fallout 1+2, Chrono Trigger, Disgaea, Torchlight, Mount & Blade, The Witcher (second one is coming out soon), Super Paper Mario, Super Mario RPG, Might and Magic series, Dark Cloud 1+2, Deus Ex.

And well, that?s what comes to mind right now.

It's also got John Cleese. Too bad it probably won't get a sequel, but at least we can enjoy what we got of Jade Empire.

Disgaea on the PSP - DS or PS3

Any of them. You will never run out of content. When you beat the game - level your toons. When you max your toons - level your gear. When you max your gear - level your "healing pots"

Diablo II if no ones said it yet, which they surely have. It's a damn good game even to this day!

After a bit of thought, you might not consider it "meaty" as it basically amounts to a huge weapon/item gather but it's a very enjoyable one. And it only costs like $8 for both the Diablo II & the expansion.

Loads and loads and loads to recommend :)

Firstly, why on earth has no one recommended The Last Remnant - give it a chance and it will eventually grab you

RPG's I have played and will always recommenemd

Disgaea
Blue Dragon
Last Remnant
Lost Odyssey
Finaly Fantasy 1 through to 13 avoiding 11 and x-2
Eternal Sonata (never understood why this game gets so much hate)
If you have access to a GC - Tales of Symphonia
If a 360 Tales of Vesperia (20GBP on GOD now)
Star Ocean (360 one)
Star Ocean 2 (PSP one)
Tales of Eternia (PSP one)
Baldurs Gate 1 and 2
Torchlight or Diablo 2
Titan Quest (but you must play it with the Immortal throne expansion - original is sub par without it)
Mass Effect 1 and 2
Jade Empire
KOTRO
Fallout 3 and NV

Honourable mention (ones been recommended but not played)

Resonance of Fate
King Arthur

TBH I could have continued with this list it would help to specify a system, I could have spent all day writing all the decent ones that came out for the PSX/PSP/PS2 alone!

I've actually just done a thread, which is garnered a lot of attention, on an MMORPG that you may find interesting.
