I gain this general feeling that the Escapist is sorely lacking in a Godzilla thread.

I love Godzilla, I love Mothra, I love 'em all even the monsters that star in one movie and get killed after 10minutes screen time. They're stupid, retreads and play out similar to a script of WWE, but that's why they're great.

Through out the 50's until now the movies generally involve some kind of subtext to reflect the times:
The monster was made by atomic radiation, aliens for Mars a(ka communists) made an evil alien to kill us, aids vs Godzilla, terrorists!
Well maybe not the last two.

But who else here loves the big guy? That hulk of a lizard. Who cries out in joy when Tokyo gets leveled for the twentieth time?

James Rolfe evidentally does, as he's doing a 29 part history of Godzilla movies at cinemassacredotcom

I've never really been too interested in it

I've been watching a few of those. That guy knows his monsters. He reminds me of myself (sniff).

I'm waiting on Godzilla VS Cognitive Dissonance.

Pfft, Godzilla doesn't care nor does he question his actions. He just likes stomping stuff. Though he does keep swapping the role of Earth's protector to Earth's annihilator, so I guess he's on the path already.

I love how there were like 7 different Godzillas, some from space, others robots, not to mention 35 canon monsters and a bunch of noncanon ones (Baby Zilla Jr.? WTF?). All were pwned by Ultraman tho, so whatevs.

I remember, one was zapped out of time, another was killed in the 1954 movie, one was sucked into a portal. The list is endless. I like to imagine they're all the same and that he's too powerful to be destroyed!

i used to watch them with an old firend I haven't seen in years so in a few of the movies I remember the past. Godzilla: Brining people together.

Ultimatly, Mothra and Mechagodzilla III (see pic above) are an unstoppable tag team seen in Tokyo SoS.

What's your stance on the '98 americanized version of godzilla?
I don't have one because it's not Godzilla. Gino (Godzilla in Name only) from what I've heard people call it. And the bastard child is Zilla from what Toho calls is. Good news, Godzilla kills Zilla in Sydney. Yay!

Even the Ultra Joe tips his hat to this tireless champion of Epic.

I think thats what made me so addicted to big displays of awesome, watching godzilla movies as a kid.

I've Actually seen both
(If you liked Matthew Broderick in Ferris Buellers's Day Off, you'll hate him in "(Oh my God)zilla")
the American Version Potrayed Godzilla as a scared monster, which breaks most Godzilla rules

my only issue with it was that Godzilla got killed way too easily

I'm a big Jean Reno fan, so I actually kind of liked it, but I try not to think of it like a Godzilla movie. If you remove the Godzilla name, it's not a bad movie.

Ah the good old Godzilla classics (not that crapy remake). They don't make 'em like they used to.

Gamera still gotta be my favourite thou. Is it just me or is there something about a giant spinny, flying, fire eating, fire breathing turtle!

Go watch Godzilla's Revenge, then the american Godzilla, and you tell me which ones better.
