Wow, seriously, I never knew this was so taboo... I go by myself, I usually meet friends there, but I GO by myself and they just happen to be going as well. No offense to gays, but I just don't ask other male friends to go catch a flick, cause in this town, thats the only thing you can do fro a date, so it seems a bit gay. I know that a little sexist, by I live in the south, so I you kinda have to watch out on that kinda stuff. But yeah, I go to the movies alone, I enjoy it sometimes.

I've done it a few times. I don't mind seeing a movie by myself if it's something I really want to see and others either don't have the inclination or the time to go.

Or if I'm off galavanting around on days I've allocated just for myself and I fancy seeing a movie, then I'll go see it by myself :)

I once went alone. Don't do it. You feel like an anti-socialist and the movie feels sleepy and draggy.

Depends on the film. For a comedy or a film I'm watching just so I can make fun of it, I can't watch it alone. Otherwise I end up talking to myself. But a lot of other films, like 'serious' films which I'd prefer to watch without my friends making insensitive comments, I watch alone.

I don't mind so much - I stick by the theory that most people don't really care if you're on your own and you're just overestimating your self-importance if you think people notice that you are. Plus most of my friends don't share my taste in films.

My ex-husband and I had VERY different taste in movies, so we'd go to the theater together but see our movies separately.

I still go to the movies by myself, and out to lunch/dinner alone after. I find it to be a good way to relax and do something I enjoy.

I've gone to movies alone. It's actually not that big of a deal for me, in fact it's kind of relaxing. I think most people feel that it's weird going to the movies alone because when you're younger you go with your family, and as you hit your teens, going out with friends is a really big deal.

I'm sure we all have those moments in life where people just irritate the living hell out of you and you just want to be by yourself. I really suggest try going to the movies by yourself to get away from troubles. You get a 1 and a half to 2 hours of not having to worry about others or having anyone bother you. Trust me, you'll feel better afterwords!

Edit: Seems a lot of people are afraid of looking like a loner or something when it comes to going to the movies by themselves. This doesn't exactly make sense, for the only time people are going to see you is the 5 to 10 minutes it takes for you to get your tickets and popcorn, and the 2 minutes it takes you to leave the theater to get in your car.

They are going to be busy doing the same exact thing! Getting tickets, getting popcorn/sodas/snacks, then for the next couple of hours they are going to be facing the same direction you are when the movie is being presented.

After that they are going to be throwing away their trash, going to the bathroom, and getting ready to leave just as you are. There shouldn't be no fear of what people think because honestly? They're going to be to busy to even notice.

i'd rather wait for the movie to come out on DVD than view it by myself.
Usually I just beg some one to come with me so i don't look like a loner.

No, but that's because it's so far away. If I had one by my house or something I think I'd go every week even if I was alone!

Can't go to the movies alone. Screws with my vision too much and I need someone to help me see after the movie is over....3D is worse cause then they have to drive too

Yes, occasionally.

Last movie I saw alone was Watchmen. It was the quietest theater I had ever been to.

Almost full theater too.

I've been to two movies alone. One was Casino Royale back in the day.

The other was the recent "Big Four Live" screening. That was frigging AWESOME!!

Went to go see toy story 3 2 weeks ago, saturday at the last showing, 10:45pm.
Had the whole theater to myself, no kids or distractions to worry about. It was awesome.

I've been to plenty of films by myself, I don't find it that odd. When I was younger I used to go to cinema once a week during the holidays to keep myself occupied. It really wasn't that bad. Plus there's always half a dozen films that none of my friends have any interest in seeing that I go along to by myself. Most recently I've gone with friends regardless, but I'm glad I went by myself to see Borat for example, just means I didn't have to worry about someone else when I walked out halfway.

I don't have a problem with it. I like going to see movies, so if I have to go by myself, it's all good.

Yes I have and I don't find it weird at all. Albeit, I have only gone to one by myself, but that has to do with the fact that I hardly go to the theaters in the first place. Typically it's not my idea to go to the theater. Too expensive.
