I've never been to the movies alone but in theory it shouldn't matter. You're not going to be talking during the film...theoretically.

I almost always go alone. Less chance of me annoying others that way, plus I prefer it.

I'd done it a few times. When I was on my gap year all my friends were miles away at uni so I saw Kill Bill 1 and Two Towers on my own. I don't think I've done it since.

Quite often, being a rabid movie fan, and devouring most movies that come out locally, because only 4 or 5 are out at a time in the nearest cinema and they normally run for a while, and of course there are a lot I don't want to see, so my friends could be at those while the movie I was watching was on. Anyway, another reason is because when I want to see a movie, I want to see a movie, and the tastes of my friends aren't going to stop me from seeing it.
One example is Inception. All my friends thought it made no sense whatsoever, so I'm going to see it pretty much ASAP on my own.

Once. The film was Kingdom of the Crystal Skull, I think. I had just been dumped, so I hit the pistachios pretty hard. Rough times.

Have you ever been to the movies by yourself? I ask beause it hit me not too long ago that I myself never have because I usually go with a friend, family member OR someone drags ME to the movies because THEY dont want to go alone.

I personally wouldn't mind, I go to restaurants and the mall by myself BUT never the movies. What about you.
I haven't gone alone, but I can take it, it's just that normally I do not go and when I do it's normally for going with the school.

I've yet to go alone, and I doubt I ever will. If I want to seriously pay attention during a movie, I'll wait until it comes out on DVD. Actually going to the movies always seemed like more of a social event to me, so going alone wouldn't really fly.

Then again, I'm one of the few people who has friends that actually shut up during movies, so I guess that helps.

I normally don't go alone, but I do prefer it. The entire point of a movie is to watch it, not listen to your buddy ask you "did you see that"? every ten seconds.

Depends what's showing and how much I want to see it really. I've been on my own a few times before. Like the time I wanted to see Avatar again and I'd run out of people to take that hadn't already seen it!

I don't understand why going to the cinema is considered a social experience. I want to sit quietly and watch the film, I don't want to interact with people during it, so why have them with me?

It's like going to meet a friend and then ignoring them for 2 hours while you both do something else. How is that social? I get the idea of being able to share the experience and talking about it afterwards and stuff... but yeah, doesn't make much sense.

I went once by myself, and it sucked. I didn't think it through before i went xD

I don't even talk to my friends that much when they're there but sitting in that huge dark room with noone around you feels really off.

No dude! One never goes to the movies alone! You watch DVDs alone at home, but you never EVER go to the movies, a restaurant or a bar alone.

I almost always go alone. People I know aren't really much of movie people. Sure, my friends watch certian ones, and I tend to get together with them for superhero movies because we're comic geeks, but I usually go on my own, and it's hardly ever planned. On the other hand, if someone invites me, I almost always go with them. That's how I see movies I'd normally never watch.

Most of the time go to the movies alone, not cool when your friends/girlfriend rambles on about how you chose a terrible film which you find quite interesting or talks over the film to ask whats going on etc.

Plus I work in a cinema get free tickets so its very convenient and if I go to see a comedy or action blockbuster the more the merrier in that case.

Never been by myself before but the thought has crossed my mind once or twice. Normally it isn't that hard to find someone to go with however.

I have yet to go to the cinema alone. Not that I go to the cinema a lot, hell, I can't even remember the last time I went there.
