I had the Xbox Live Gold trial for a month, and was thoroughly unimpressed. Bought a year in January because spending $1200 on an HDTV and then watching Netflix on a Wii seemed like a waste, so I've been trying out some online play. The Crysis 2 MP demo worked fine. I also decided to give Breach a shot since there was no PC demo. Half the matches I was in ended because the host left.

If I were actually paying for multiplayer (as opposed to getting HD Netflix rather than SD, in which case I'm getting what I'm paying for), I'd be pissed off! Having matches cut out because one person leaves isn't an acceptable "premium" gaming experience.

So to all you guys who love Xbox Live Gold, and I know you're out there, how do you put up with crap like that?

Honestly? I don't. I've not had the "cutting out" problem until recently, and it's pushed be away from the system. Combined with the fact I now have a PS3.
Basically, my renewal is up in February and... I'll not be doing it.

Since when do games close down just because one person leaves? That almost never happens to me. Like MAYBE once a month. MAYBE. I'm just glad you aren't here to whine about all the obnoxious racist 12 year olds. People know that there's an easily accessed mute function, right? Like, really easy. Like, all-the-annoying-players-are-muted-in-seconds-easy.

Because I'm not poor? Sure, it'd be good if you didn't have to pay but £40/$60 is nothing unless you're a teenager or you're on less than minimum wage. And I hardly ever have server problems and if I do it's because the person who's hosting has a terrible connection.

Also, having the majority of your friends have an xbox is more than enough reason for me to pay that much a year, even if the servers can occasionally suck. Nobody has a mic on the PS3. Bores me to tears.

I don't have those kind of problems.
Also, I pretty much just ask for a yearly subscription every christmas so I don't have to pay for it.

I never have that happen to me. In Halo, it just finds a new host while in a black screen for 30 seconds. Only game I think that happened to me was CoD4.

That's more the game you're playing than the actual online part of it. I can get through MW2 which when a host leaves it chooses a new one in game without kicking you. Gears of War 2 also doesn't kick players when the host leaves the game... I think...

But once agian its the game you downloaded not the actual online service

Most games transfer the host when the original ones leave. The Crysis 2 demo has serious connection issues(20 minutes to find a game, ARE YOU FUCKING SERIOUS?!). Not sure about Breach.

But yeah, very few games are like that.

I put up with it because, in the multiplayer games I play, the host just switches if the current one quits.

I agree with this guy. The Xbox Live Community is best seen (preferably, riddled with virtual bullet holes) and not heard.

A: If you do not like it do not pay for it (no offense)
B: The host leaving is not Microsoft's fault
C: If you have a PS3 play that if you do not like paying for multiplayer

Don't blame xbox live because the one game you played online doesn't have host migration, that's the developer of Breach's fault.

I ignore everything on the dashboard and only use it to play a few games online.

It's annoying but multiplayer is worth it.

I only activated my gold trial to access my resident evil 5 gold edition content, i dont know why they couldnt just make it a 2 disc but whatever.

I tried out some of games online, like Saints Row 2, which sucked online. I tried Condemned 2 which surprisingly had lots of people still playing and i got all the achievements for the game :)

As for RE5 online, I have never been so frustrated while playing a game in my whole life, seeing how all my opponents had a years experience over me. I also had no microphone so I couldnt tell ppl to fuck off if they bothered me. I got 5/10 online achieves, and if I ever convert my silver to gold again I guess i'll try for the last 5 (to get 70/70).

L4D2 was amazing online tho!!

Depends on the game. If a game has a user host the game, like Call of Duty (Modern Warfare 2 had that lovely host switch though when the host left), then yeah, the game will end when the host leaves, but if the game is hosted by servers, I can't think of an example at the moment, then it won't quit. It's mainly a game flaw, rather than the service flaw. The PS3 has the same thing, Call of Duty 4, if the host left, the game quit, but in Socom, the servers host the game so it stays up. PC games have this too, but for the most part, 99% of PC games will have server hosting, or let users create their own servers (think Counter Strike: Source). Sometimes a developer just can't keep their servers open for a game when they aren't charging you for it, so they make it so the users host or eventually they shut down the servers.
