Sure, that's a great rationale. I mean, after all, consumers shouldn't be concerned with quality, but whether or not they're poor.
Except I think the quality of Xbox Live is good. Better than PSN, anyway. And as I said, I get to play online with my friends. That's all I care about.

Your issue here is with Breach, not with Xbox Live Gold, you can't just play ONE game that is broken and then blame the system for it.

That's about as ridiculous as getting one minor computer virus and then concluding that all computers are shit as a result.

Honestly, back when I own and played a 360 I only paid for gold memberships when I knew I'd have the free time and the drive to play against people. But as a service I kept hearing from friends who own both 360s and PS3s that they felt that Microsoft rarely has server issues, but if that's the case I can get why people who owns 360s would be ok with paying for the service.

Then again I get basically the same thing for free on a PS3 and not an issue with the server yet BUT like with the 360 the problems were always caused by other people prematurely (Sometimes immaturely) leaving games which on the 360 caused games like the Halo series to freeze for short periods or just end completely. Sadly though, that's an issue game developers seem to be attempting to resolve (Hence Capcom's plan in Marvel Vs. Capcom 3.) and if we're lucky one day they'll get it right.

Most games transfer the host when the original ones leave. The Crysis 2 demo has serious connection issues(20 minutes to find a game, ARE YOU FUCKING SERIOUS?!). Not sure about Breach.

But yeah, very few games are like that.
Yeah, reminds me of more then a few lives on Halo that were cut short by the host leaving in the middle of a firefight and then being killed once the break intermission was over.

Good times.

I'm paying for Netflix in HD right now, which I do like, as $40 is cheaper than $300 for a PS3 (or even $150 second hand).

B: The host leaving is not Microsoft's fault
I'd say it is, I've never had that happen playing on the PC - because you connect to a server, not another client, and that's without paying any sort of fee for a "premium" service.

C: If you have a PS3 play that if you do not like paying for multiplayer
MP on Gold certainly isn't something I'm paying for, I'm just wondering why so many people do...

Depends on the game. If a game has a user host the game, like Call of Duty (Modern Warfare 2 had that lovely host switch though when the host left), then yeah, the game will end when the host leaves, but if the game is hosted by servers, I can't think of an example at the moment, then it won't quit. It's mainly a game flaw, rather than the service flaw. The PS3 has the same thing, Call of Duty 4, if the host left, the game quit, but in Socom, the servers host the game so it stays up. PC games have this too, but for the most part, 99% of PC games will have server hosting, or let users create their own servers (think Counter Strike: Source). Sometimes a developer just can't keep their servers open for a game when they aren't charging you for it, so they make it so the users host or eventually they shut down the servers.
That's what puzzles me. If the only way you can play online is with a Gold membership, shouldn't Microsoft be providing the servers? You can get servers without paying on the PC, so if you are paying shouldn't there be some guarantee that you have (even a non dedicated) server? That's what I'd expect if I were paying.

Since it's a problem I've never encountered before on PC....

As for the rest of you who don't know how to read, the Escapist would be a much better place if you could report people for not reading the OP.

I just ask for a yearly subscription for my birthday so it's never bothered me... £40 a year really isn't all that much anyway.

Since when do games close down just because one person leaves? That almost never happens to me. Like MAYBE once a month. MAYBE. I'm just glad you aren't here to whine about all the obnoxious racist 12 year olds. People know that there's an easily accessed mute function, right? Like, really easy. Like, all-the-annoying-players-are-muted-in-seconds-easy.
I agree with this guy. The Xbox Live Community is best seen (preferably, riddled with virtual bullet holes) and not heard.
Wait, so the over-abundance of mics on Live is a good and bad thing?

I mean, for PS3 I have a mic, but rarely use it. Don't have much call too except to yell at teammates, and that's mean, so I don't, I just yell at the TV. Hardly anyone talks in the games I play, that's for sure, but most of the time when they do, it's smack talk.

I prefer the silence myself.

OP: One of the many reasons I got a PS3 instead. I expect the game's multiplayer to be included in the price tag, thank you.

The host dropping out can also be the game's fault for example my hosts on COD Black Ops drops out a lot but on Halo Reach this never happens. This is because COD has no dedicated servers but Halo does. Another reason maybe because your PC is probably is a wired connection and your Xbox may be wireless assuming all this is true. I thought that you just needed a regular Netflix account to use it on systems but I never used it nor do I even have a normal Netflix account anyway. Lastly the only reason I play my Xbox more than I do my PS3 is because a friend gave me a year subscription for my birthday so I decided not to put it to waste.

Wait, so you're saying people put up with the host dropping on one of the best selling Xbox 360 games of all time? Doesn't sound like it's just Breach then, and in that case, how do all you Black Ops players put up with it?

I've only got wired on my 360, not interested in paying for a wireless adapter.

that is the games fault not microsoft or xbox live, so dont blame them for the demo's mistake.

and for pc, its much different, a lot of servers are PAID for and MAINTAINED by certain players who make them, those are wonderful servers and they work amazingly, as its not p2p connections, like most console games are, that is where you are getting bad host migrations and any type of lag you are receiving, in which this happens on all consoles, not just xbox live, but Live generally has a much less dropped game rate and better host migrating and xbox basically uses that as an excuse to charge for gold.

and so many people pay for it because everyone and their grandma's have a xbox 360, so its just easier to play on there, especially with party chat/etc...

I never really thought of it.
I don't play multiplayer all that much anyway.

And as others have said, the yearly amount isn't that much to pay.

I have maybe had the problem with games cutting out on one game, Chromehounds, which had a notoriously terrible online, not because of XBL, but because it was poorly maintained.

Works better without the trite "I'm not poor" line. :)

The xbox would barley be worth it for me without gold...sure you still get the great fallout type offline single player games but Halo and Call of Duty are great for multiplayer online and that's half the xbox experience.

Unless you played Breach on the PC, this argument is invalid.
