I just noticed that around my 225 post I changed my nomination thingy to muckracker, and I was just wondering what do these thing mean and how many are there.

They're a basic reflection of how much you've contributed to the forums.

I don't know how many there are, but they really don't matter. The big names around here often have pub-club custom titles anyway, and quantity of posts has no correlation with quality (except that trolls are hard-pressed to reach four digits without a permanent ban.)

How do you get a custom thingy? And how many characters do I need to fulfill the "long enough post" rule?

You get a custom thingy being a pub club member, and the default ones show your 'title' on the forum against how many posts you do.

That reminds me, I need to update my one to reflect myself at this current moment.

I think there's about 10 or so, based solely on the number of forum/user group posts made.

If you count all the custom ones (like mine) then there's an infinite number. If not, I don't know the exact number but I know that the final one is Wordsmith Extraordinaire (10000+ posts?)

To answer your questions:

Custom title: Buy PubClub

Regular posting titles... Well here's the major ones at least.

1000-4999 = Gonzo
5000-7999 = On the Record
8000-9999 = Master Archivist
10000-14999 = Wordsmith Extrordinare
14999+ = Noble Laureate

What i'm wondering about is when you stop with the Gone Gonzo title. I think it gets to that at about 1000 posts, but i've no idea when it changes again or even if it does change at all.

I wouldn't mind having a custom title though. It would just feel more personal.
For the time being i'm a Pulitzer Laureate.

EDIT: Seems the above post cleared that right up :D

Thanks people, but I still want to know how many character do I need to have in order not to get a warning.
An absolute minimum of six to ten words should do you fine. It may sound stupid, but I was given a warning for a whole line of words and an image in post. Typically that shouldn't happen, but a couple of sentences should keep you safe.

It usually doesn't matter as long as it isn't super offensive, or really stupid.

No real character or word count, just make sure you contribute something to the discussion and can be sensibly replied to. *shrug*

I've made four word responses but didn't get clobbered because it was a legitimate reply to another user's post.

Oh, so they actually have people that roam around reading what other people write. I would have thought that it was much better just to have it coded.

As long as it's relvant and is more than a short sentence, you should be alright. And if you quote to agree to something, don't do "*Quote* This."

That's how I got my first warning. Dah.

It's not about the length. It's the way...erm where was I?

Content. That's what's important. If you add to a discussion, you're good. If you +1 or post relevant or irrelevant images, you'll get in trouble.

I've seen a few people (though I can't give you any names but by the time most people reach that post count, they join the PubClub and grab a custom tag instead.
