Good and bad soundtracks

Today I was playing though The Warriors on Xbox, and whilst the game is fairly good, the one thing I felt that would have made it great would have been the soundtrack. The film was full of typically 80's synth and theremin music, and was what gave the film its rustic "so-bad-it's-good" feel. The game was lacking this, and music took a back seat. Even fiddling with options to make it louder didn't really work.
I guess this would be my clear example of a game which was let down by its background music. My favourite examples of good soundtracks would probably be Halo and Wipeout (in their time). How about you slags?

Burnout Revenge. Arguably the greatest racing game soundtrack ever. Tony Hawk also seems to have at least a few great tracks every game.

Orange Box Soundtrack (get with Audiosurf) - So good, that I had to throw it onto my mobile phone :D
NFS: U2 / MW - Sweet ones, they introduced me to Disturbed, with their single "Decadance".
THPS3 - No commentary needed here.
Beyond Good and Evil - Just one word: "Propaganda".
PoP Warior Within - And he introduced me to Godsmack ("I Stand Alone").

Since I recently commented on another topic for good music, I think I'll state that my least favourite music is from Star Wars: Galactic Battlegrounds. Sure, the music is straight from the films, but that's the problem. In a game where you spend half your time managing resources, you don't want the fast paced battle music constantly pumping out.

Oh dear, you're going to get your arse flamed. Actually, I didn't think that the music and general atmosphere was as game breaking as everyone else seems to think, I guess loud music just scares them.

I agree. Although this may be because I played Warrior Within first. I think I prefer that one over the first.

the Baldur's Gate games had an awesome soundtrack, it had all they key elements but never overcooked it.

The Tony Hawks series got me into a load of great bands like Violent Femmes, Jurassic 5, The Ramones etc.

Nevermind. Listening to "Dahaka's Escape" is a pleasure itself.

Since good soundtracks have been done to death, I'll mention a few bad soundtracks:

Unlimited SaGa/Drakengard/FFVII: Dirge of Cerberus - I hate Hamauzu with a burning passion, he rewrites the same piano melody over and over again with a few minor tweaks, a few nonsense techno tracks, and everyone suddenly thinks he's a genius.

Radiata Stories - there's no excuse for a game like Radiata Stories in this day and age to be full of 50-90 second looping tracks, it's just lazy.

I don't get game soundtracks....It's a waste...even though there can be good music on it...If I want to hear the music I'll go to Youtube or play the game again.

I think Metroid has the best overall soundtracks. They are subtle enough that they dont get old, but good enough that you may stay in a single area longer just to listen to the areas music. Though FFX has the most songs that I like, but it has too many songs I dont like or dont care for, so the average is smaller then Metroid.

As for bad soundtracks, EA picks some of the worst music for their games. They just look for the cheapest stuff they can find.

You want a bad soundtrack? Try Castlevania: Harmony of Dissonance. Now there's a game that lives up to its name. I mean geez, the other GBA CV games had at least tolerable music... where did they go wrong with this one?

Twisted Metal 4 actually had a badass soundtrack for an albeit severely lacking addition to the series.

Anything written and composed by Shoji Meguro. He's the guy behind the Shin Megami Tensei games. Sure it's guitar driven, but he throws in rap, jazz, minimal piano work and techno sounds and somehow makes it work.

Fragfest FPS games probably have the worst soundtrack in my opinion, boring and repetitive and doesn't give me any rush when I play them. I'm talking arena games like Quake III and Unreal Tournament games.
