Try Arrested Development. It only ran for 3 seasons but it is solid comedy entertainment.

Scrubs, How I Met Your Mother, IT Crowd, Black Books and Family Guy. Those are great shows.

Scrubs is silly humour, many weird funny fantasies, and lots of puns and funny events.

How I Met Your Mother is a classic sitcom in the Friends genre, it's very passive humour, it comes by itself in the happenings.

IT Crowd has geek humour. Two nerdy guys who knows almost everything while everyone else is an idiot, and they do fun shenanigans.

Black Books, a show starring two great comedians, Bill Bailey and Dylan Moran. Hard to describe, but it's great and the jokes are awesome. Watch the comedians, and if you like them, you'll like the show. Bill is full of clever jokes, he's very intelligent, while Dylan has very cynical, nihilistic humour, and is seen often making fun of special forms of people.

Family Guy has it's joked based on similes and black humour. They make fun of every ethnic group that exists, every race, every religion, every celebrity, everything. It's satirical and the characters have their own fun ways. The retarded dad, the nagging mother, the idiot son, the hated daughter, the gay, evil baby, and the clever, cynical dog.

My chance to shine.
Red Dwarf (maybe not the last season)
Blackadder
Green Wing
Black Books
League of Gentlemen
Red vs blue
Dad's Army
Futurama
And that's all I can think of at the moment.

EDIT:The Vicor of Dibly isn't bad either.

I'm partial to How I Met Your Mother and Big Bang Theory at the moment. The former is a hybrid of Seinfeld/Friends that actually works very well, in large part due to Neil Patrick Harris. And the second is actually surprisingly respectful of geeks. They're the only sitcoms I watch these days.
This post is...
legen...wait for it...-DARY!

Also, in order of my partialness to the series:

South Park
Futurama
American Dad
early Simpsons
Family Guy (before season 7)

Go for Malcolm in the Middle.

I give the show high marks for breaking the standard sit-com formula and for achieving a high level of originality.

Oh, and its basically the opposite of Two and a Half Men.

Monty Pythons Flying Circus.

Ripping yarns wasn't bad either. You'd have to get them on dvd or something though because I don't think it's shown any more.

The fact that The Venture Bros. has not been mentioned yet is absolutely criminal. By far the best cartoon in existence, and season 4 starts in just over a month!

I hate most television shows in general, buuut Arrested Development was pure genius. It's Always Sunny in Philadelphia is ridiculously funny. A friend of of mine recently turned me to Curb Your Enthusiasm; this show is excellently written, but it's on HBO.

...I don't know though, if you think Matt Groening's recent works are funny, it shouldn't be too difficult to make you laugh.

Chuck is an action/comedy/drama(to a much lesser extent than the action and comedy) show that more people need to watch.
